12. DOCUMENTING TEACHER’S PERFORMANCE
Maintaining equity in
assessing starts with a
structured system that
ensures you assess every
teacher using the same
process. Digital forms and
templates encourage
objective reviews and reduce
evaluators’ tendency to
report subjective opinions.
Digital forms
Feedback reports
One of the most common
problems with teacher
assessment systems is that
they often don’t provide
teachers with actionable and
meaningful feedback.
Observers should give
teachers a report with notes
detailing successes as well
as specific advice on what
and how they can improve.
Portfolio
Compilation
Portfolios provide documented
evidence of teaching from a
variety of sources—not just
student ratings—and provide
context for that evidence.
It can offer a look at
development over time, helping
one see teaching as on ongoing
process of inquiry,
experimentation, and reflection.
But as school head, always
remember the word “CONFIDENTIAL”.
Rating Sheets
Of all the effort of
the teachers, they
deserve to be graded
according to their
performance objectively.
They deserve to be
rated accordingly.
Administrators should
not pet anyone. Rate
your teacher fairly and
legally.

Editor's Notes
faculty are more likely to change if they gain insight from appropriate information sources and are motivated to improve, and receive recommendations on how to improve.
Units that establish detailed procedures for preparing materials and conducting assessment increase the likelihood that the process will be fair and meaningful. Written procedures must describe the information that should be gathered, what counts as acceptable evidence of teaching effectiveness, and all possible data sources.
creating policies and procedures is to uphold propriety standards, conforming to ethical and legal principles, that protect those being assessted
Because the relative importance of teaching and service varies from one institution to the next, it is obligatory upon the administration to meaningfully convey its values and expectations regarding teaching performance
A balanced system of assessment is needed, therefore, because of the limitations of any single measure.
Formal measures assess teaching effectiveness relative to specific curriculum objectives, professional standards, or relevant benchmarks, such as comparisons with instructors in the same discipline or institution.
