PURPOSE
 The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the factors
which contribute to cognitive ability enhancement
under the spectrum of Neuroscience, through the
bibliographical research of scientific literature.

WHY
 By 2050, the proportion of people aged over 60 is estimated to reach 22%
of the world's population.
 Reduced cognitive abilities are one of the most important consequences of
aging, which affects the individual's autonomy, the functioning of the body
and generally aggravates the quality of life.
 At the same time different cognitive issues are affecting young populations
from the infant age.
 The above facts make the area of interest not only a fascinating scientific
topic but an existing challenge for solutions and improvements for millions
of people of every age.

LOOKING IN TO THE BRAIN
 Eelectroencephalography (EEG)
 Mmagnetoencephalography (MEG)
 Computed tomography (CT)
 Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
 Functional MRI (fMRI)
 Positron emission tomography (PET)
 Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)

ISSUES OF COGNITIVE ABILITY AND MEMORY
5
 Alzheimer's disease (AD)
 Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB)
 Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD)
 Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)
 Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH)
 Parkinson's Disease Dementia
 Issues in young ages: Dyslexia, ADHD (Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder)

ENHANCEMENT OF COGNITIVE ABILITY AND MEMORY
6
 It is possible to improve cognitive function in a number of areas
such as memory, attention, processing speed and performance with
the use of different methods. Neuroscientists have well established
that the brain has a capacity to change in response to
environmental stimuli (plasticity).
 Structured interventions like brain training can benefit and such
benefits lead to better functional outcomes even up to five years
after training.
 At the same time, the pharmaceutical approach (short term
benefits with side effects) and lifestyle changes can improve areas
of cognition.
 Diet is also an important factor. For example, a diet rich in omega-3
fatty
 Physical exercise is the probably the top cognitive booster.
 Finally, social interactions, sleep and stress reduction can improve
cognitive abilities
