4. About Security Center
How Security Center Works
Bigger, better, and more secure than any stand-alone product on the market, Aluria’s
innovative, integrated Security Center offers anti-spyware, Anti-Spam anti-virus, firewall, and
pop-up stopper solutions, all accessible from within a single, sleek, centralized user interface.
Designed for effortless management, with the push of a button, Security Center instantly
retrieves the update information for all applications contained within its console. Open
Security Center by double-clicking the icon on your desktop, or select Security Center from
your Windows Program menu. From within the console, you can easily access any product
by clicking its icon from the Security Center toolbar. The Security Center console is shown
below:
Registering Your Software
Each product in the Security Center requires registration in order to benefit from all of the
available features. Registration information can be found in the confirmation e-mail message
that is sent after each purchase. Registration information can also be retrieved by accessing
our online Registration Retrieval Form located at
http://www.aluriasoftware.com/support/regretrieval/.
The first time you run Aluria Security Center, a product registration dialog will appear. After
you have registered your first product, the Product Registration dialog will no longer be
displayed at startup. Any software purchased after the initial registration will need to be
registered within Security Center as well.

5. To register your Aluria Software product, on the About Registration screen, select I have a
registration number and want to activate my Aluria Software.
Selecting this option will take you to a Product Registration dialog box where you may enter
single or multiple registration numbers. To activate your Aluria Software, type your e-mail
address into the Registered E-mail Address box. Next, enter the 32 - digit registration
number e-mailed to you at the time of your software purchase into the Registration Number
box, and then click Add. To register multiple products, repeat this process until all are
entered.

6. Once added, registered product information is stored in Security Center and a list of product
numbers and their corresponding registration dates are displayed in the Registered Products
box. When all products have been entered, click Continue to proceed.
A confirmation screen will display your registered products, their numbers and registration
dates. Products that have not been registered, but that are available for integration into your
Security Center are listed under Unregistered Products. To register any unregistered
products, click Register Now.
Click Finish to exit the registration process.
Evaluating Aluria Software
For each product in Security Center, Aluria provides limited-functionality trial versions for you
to “try before you buy.” If you do not have a registration number and would like to activate a
trial, from the Security Center toolbar, click the product you'd like to evaluate. A screen will
display asking if you'd like to register the full version or participate in the trial. Follow the
instructions to activate the trial.
Trials typically last for 15 days. After 15 days, to prevent a lapse in protection, you must
register the full version of the software. To register Full Version software, from the Security
Center Home screen, under Registration, click Register. You can buy any Security Center
product from the Security Center Home screen by clicking Buy from the My Security Rating
display.
Updating Your Software
Periodically you will need to update components in your Security Center. To initiate an
update, on the lower left hand corner of any Security Center screen, click Updates. You may
also, under each product's File menu, select Update Security Center. You can also, from
the Security Center Home screen, under the Options menu, click Update. Once you have

7. selected to receive updates, you will see the Product Updates dialog which shows all
available updates, categorized by application (I.E. Security Suite, Aluria Anti-Spyware, Anti-
Virus, or Anti-Spam) .
By default when the Product Updates dialog is initiated, Update All is selected, and all
available updates are noted with a green check mark. To download all available updates,
click Update.
You may opt to select and download individual updates. To select individual updates clear
the Update All check box, and then click in the check boxes to the left of any updates you
wish to download. Once you have selected the desired updates, shown with green check
marks, click Update .
Note To the right of each update is the approximate size of the download, allowing dial-up
users to selectively download updates while preserving bandwidth and limited required
connection time.
Once the update has started you will see a progress screen informing you of which update is
downloading and installing and how far along in the process you are.

8. If the update is downloaded and installed successfully you will be presented with the Update
Successful screen as shown below:
If the update was stopped or interrupted at any point you will be presented with an Update
Interrupted screen as shown below:

9. This screen will show you which updates were successfully downloaded and installed, and
which updates were not. Items with a green check mark next to them were successful
downloaded and installed. Items with a red X did not successfully complete the update
process. To view remaining updates that were either not complete or not selected for
installation and download, click View Remaining Updates.
To end the update process and return to your Security Center, click Close.
Setting Advanced Options
Setting Advanced Options
For experienced users, Aluria Security Center offers advanced configuration options which
can be accessed by selecting an option under the Security Center Home Options menu.
From this menu, advanced options are available for the following products:
Security Center
Anti-Spyware
Anti-Virus
Firewall
You can also access advanced options from any of the security center component screens.
For example, to access Anti-Spyware advanced options, you could click the Anti-Spyware
icon from the Security Center toolbar. From the Anti-Spyware screen, you would select an
option from the Options menu.

10. General Tab
Under the Security Center General Advanced Options you can set Security Center to:
Load Security Center at startup
Show a splash screen on Security Center start up.
Allow connection through a proxy
- Select this option if you are running a proxy. A proxy is an optional IP address that
your computer accesses, or goes through, before it reaches the Internet. Proxies are
used for added security and sometimes anonymity. If you are using a proxy you will
need to allow connection through a proxy in Aluria Anti-Spyware.
If you do not allow connection through a proxy, it is possible that you will not be able
to update your software and receive any new definition files or program updates. You
may also have problems when attempting to register or validate your software.
Restore
- Selecting this option allows you to remove all custom options and settings you may
have specified, and restores all defaults listed under the Security Center, Anti-
Spyware, Anti-Virus and Firewall tabs.
Winsock Repair
- Enable this option if you want Security Center to check for Winsock errors and repair
damaged Winsock files. Winsock, (Windows Socket), is a standard way Windows
applications communicate with the TCP/IP protocol. When your PC is connected to
the Internet you’re using Winsock.
Should Security detect that your Winsock needs repair, an alert will pop-up to let you
know. For Winsock repairs to go into effect, you will need to reboot your computer
when prompted.
Updates tab
Under the Security Center advanced option Updates, you can set Security Center to:
Prompt before downloading or installing updates
- By selecting this option you will be prompted to first, update your product, and
second, to install the downloaded updates.
Automatically download then prompt to install
- By selecting this option you will be notified when an update has occurred, and
then you will be prompted to install the downloaded update(s).

11. Automatically download and install without prompting
- This is the Aluria Anti-Spyware default automatic updates option. By selecting
this option, you will receive notification when Aluria Anti-Spyware checks for
updates. If updates are available, Aluria Anti-Spyware will automatically
download them, and then display a second notification to inform you that the
updates are complete.

12. Anti-Spyware
About Aluria Anti-Spyware
Aluria Anti-Spyware is the anti-spyware component of Security Center, allowing you to detect
and remove malicious spyware items from your computer. By combining state-of-the-art
technology with an easy-to-use interface, Aluria Anti-Spyware is hands-down, the most
powerful tool for removing dangerous spyware that can crash your computer, slow system
performance, and contribute to identity theft.
Configuring Aluria Anti-Spyware
Configuration
The Configuration Wizard will appear the first time you click on the Anti-Spyware icon from
the Security Center toolbar. You may also run the Configuration Wizard by clicking
Configuration Wizard under the Aluria Anti-Spyware Tools menu.
Aluria Anti-Spyware offers you two methods of configuration:
Typical
Custom
Typical
Selecting Typical will allow Aluria Anti-Spyware to scan the entire computer including the
registry, memory, and file system. Aluria recommends this method in order to prevent any
possible instances of an application reinstalling due to partial removal.
By default, Typical configuration also sets your computer to scan at regularly scheduled
intervals, enables Aluria Anti-Spyware to automatically retrieve available updates, and
enables all recommended Internet and Prevention settings.
Custom
Custom configuration is normally only recommended for advanced users.
Selecting Custom allows the user to designate specific areas of the computer to be scanned
including the registry, memory, or file system. The user can select these areas individually, in
pairs, or all at once. While this method will reduce the time it takes to perform a scan, you
run the risk of missing a file that can possibly reinstall an entire application.
In addition to allowing you to set custom scan settings, Custom configuration also allows you
to set Recommended or Custom scan options, scheduling, updates, and preventions &
alerts. Recommended options are those that Aluria recommends for most users to ensure
optimum security and performance.

13. Note If you have purchased both Aluria Anti-Virus and Aluria Anti-Spyware, you can set your
software to scan for both spyware and viruses in one convenient OneScan. To configure
your software to run OneScan, see Setting Up OneScan.
Understanding Advanced Options
About Advanced Options
For experienced users, Aluria Anti-Spyware offers advanced configuration options which can
be accessed by selecting an option under the Aluria Anti-Spyware Options menu. You can
also access advanced options from the Security Center Home by selecting Anti-Spyware
Options under the Security Center Home Options menu. Advanced Options are available
for Scan, Scheduling, Prevention/Alerts, Homepage Control and SRS.

System Preventions are designed to protect your computer from harmful spyware attack, and
Internet Preventions ensure a positive Internet browsing experience. System and Internet
Preventions are as follows:
Enable Active Defense Shield Alert (ADS)
Protect Against WinPop-up
Protect Against HTA Vulnerability
Restricted IP Ranges, ActiveX, Restricted Zones
Enable Active Defense Shield Alert (ADS)
Aluria Anti-Spyware's next-generation ADS technology is unmatched in the protection it
provides, offering true real-time protection that stops Spyware in its tracks. Unlike lesser,
reactive solutions that allow spyware applications to install, and then attempt to remove
them, Aluria's ADS technology proves TRUE proactive protection that blocks spyware
BEFORE installation. The result is superior protection against even the most advanced and
elusive spyware applications. Because the best defense against invasive software is to
identify it and disable it before it damages your computer, Aluria recommends all Aluria Anti-
Spyware users enable ADS.
To enable ADS, select System Preventions and Enable Active Defense Shield Alert
(ADS). From the drop-down list select Quarantine, Delete or Allow. Selecting one of these
options will cause ADS to automatically quarantine, delete or allow any suspect items it
detects. Each time ADS performs an action, you will be notified.
Protect Against WinPop-up
WinPop-up spam is often called by different names including netsend spam, messenger pop-
ups, and messenger spam. WinPop-ups display messages like the one shown below:

15. WinPop-ups typically appear while a user is browsing the Internet. The most common
WinPop-up spam promotes marketing messages urging the user to purchase a pop-up
blocker to block the WinPop-up currently displaying the message. To stop annoying WinPop-
Up spam from ruining your Internet browsing, Aluria recommends enabling the Protect
against WinPop-up check box.
Protect Against HTA Vulnerability
HTA is an HTML application that is trusted by Internet Explorer (IE) to run on a computer.
HTA vulnerability uses a Web page to embed and execute trojans, worms, and viruses
directly into a user's computer when the user visits a malicious Web page designed to exploit
this vulnerability. If you do not use IE for your Internet browser, then you do not need to be
concerned about HTA vulnerability.
If you do use IE and are concerned about HTA vulnerability, you can enable HTA
vulnerability protection by selecting Internet Preventions and Protect Against HTA
Vulnerability. Next, choose either Medium level or High level protection.
Medium Level HTA Protection
Choose medium level HTA vulnerability protection to allow Aluria Anti-Spyware to
make registry changes that prevent IE from running potentially damaging HTA code.
High Level HTA Protection
Choose high level HTA vulnerability protection to allow Aluria Anti-Spyware to make
registry changes that prevent IE from running potentially damaging HTA code.
Additionally, ActiveX controls and plug-ins, and Active Scripting in IE’s Internet
Security Options will be disabled.
Note Selecting high level HTA vulnerability protection may cause some pages on legitimate
Web sites to display inaccurately.
Restricted IP Ranges, ActiveX, Restricted Zones
Restricted IP ranges, ActiveX, and restricted zones can damage your computer by causing
malicious spyware infections. Aluria recommends you enable default Restricted IP Ranges,
ActiveX, and Restricted Zones. To enable these features, click Internet Preventions and
Restricted IP Ranges, ActiveX, and Restricted Zones. Choose Default or Custom
settings. Aluria recommends Default to ensure optimum protection for your computer and
Internet browser.

16. There are many Web sites that are malicious in nature, and while you may not visit
them intentionally, you may be unwillingly redirected to these dangerous sites by
scripts running in the background, misleading textual references, or deceptive pop-
ups. Visiting malicious Web sites can compromise your security and cause your
computer to be attacked by spyware. To prevent spyware infection, Aluria has created
a list of Web sites known to engage in malicious activity. By default, all Web sites in
this list are blocked by Aluria Aluria Anti-Spyware.
Aluria recommends against enabling any items in the Restricted IP Ranges list,
however, you may do so by selecting Custom and then Edit from under Restricted
IP Ranges, ActiveX, Restricted Zones. Under the Restricted IP Ranges tab you will
see a list of IP addresses and their status. To block an IP address, select it by clicking
your mouse in the check box to the right of the item. Items selected with a black check
mark are blocked. Items that do not have a black check mark are enabled. Once you
are satisfied with your settings, click Apply.
ActiveX
ActiveX controls are a very popular method for infecting users with dangerous
spyware. ActiveX controls typically appear, when a user browses the Internet, as
Windows-style dialog boxes asking for permission to install Software A from Company
B. These dialogs are often misleading. As a means of protecting you from malicious
spyware, Aluria has compiled a list of known ActiveX spyware applications that are
blocked by default.
Although it is not recommended, you may opt to block ActiveX controls individually. To
block individual ActiveX controls, under Restrict IP Ranges, ActiveX, Restricted
Zones select Custom and click Edit. Under the ActiveX tab, select all ActiveX
controls to be blocked and click Apply.
Restricted Zones
Some Web sites provide beneficial content, but run unnecessary, malicious scripts in
the background, set unwanted cookies, or put forward harmful ActiveX controls. Aluria
has created a list of these Web sites and blocked their Restricted Zones allowing you
to continue to visit the Web sites listed without risking infection of your computer.
For your security, Aluria recommends selecting the default to block all unwanted
Restricted Zones from damaging your computer. To block Restricted Zones on an
individual basis, under Restricted IP Ranges, ActiveX, Restricted Zones, select
Custom and then click Edit. Select items you want to block by clicking in the check
box next to that item. When you are satisfied with your Restricted Zone settings, click
Apply.
Alerts
Alerts are enabled by default to warn you about spyware attacks or to inform you about
important update and scanning information. Although it is not recommended, you may
disable an alert by clearing its check box. There are four options for alerts:

Active Memory Scan
Memory Scan allows Aluria Anti-Spyware to run a continuous scan of your memory for
malicious spyware that may be inadvertently installed. When a suspect threat is detected, the
Memory Scan Alert pops up, notifying you that spyware is active in your PC. From the Active
Memory Scan Alert dialog you may choose Ok or Cancel. If you choose OK, another pop-
up will display to let you know that you need to perform a full system scan to remove the
spyware.
Updates
By enabling Updates, when Aluria Anti-Spyware detects an available update to your
definitions or program, it will prompt you with an alert and give you the opportunity to
download and install the update.
Missed Scan
Whether you have selected to scan automatically or manually, if you have missed a scan, the
Missed Scan Alert will notify you and provide you with information about performing a "make-
up" scan.
Homepage Control
Spyware known as Homepage hijackers can alter your home page to display a different Web
site without your authorization. The Homepage control alert notifies you anytime your home
page changes from its original setting. From the Homepage Control Alert dialog you may
choose Restore home page or Allow.
Scan Tab
Under the Advanced Options Scan tab you can:
Enable Active Memory Scan
- You can enable Aluria Anti-Spyware's Active Memory Scan feature to protect your
PC from spyware hidden in the memory. Active Memory Scan runs a continuous
check of any applications operating in your system’s memory against Aluria’s
comprehensive, known spyware database. When Active Memory Scan is enabled, an
Active Memory Scan Alert will notify you that it has found spyware in your registry. To
remove spyware found by Active Memory Scan, you will need to run a full system
scan.

18. - Selecting this option sets Aluria Anti-Spyware to comprehensively scan all
drives, memory, registry and cookies on your computer.
Quick Scan
- Selecting this option sets Aluria Anti-Spyware to scan memory, registry, and
known spyware hotspots.
Custom Scan
- You can configure custom scan settings by enabling desired options in the
Scan: and Drives To Scan: boxes. If desired, to view Network Drives, click
Show Network Drives. The auto-populated list will display your local and
network drives in the Drives to Scan: box.
Schedule Tab
Under the Advanced Options Schedule tab you can:

- Selecting this option schedules your computer to scan weekly, on Friday at
9:00 A.M.
Custom
- You can configure custom schedule settings by enabling desired options in
the Periodic, Day, and Time boxes.
SRS Tab
The Spyware Retrieval Service (SRS) connects Aluria users in an anti-spyware network to
find and fight new forms of spyware. You can help Aluria protection millions of Internet users
from spyware by participating in SRS. Participation is free and requires no action on your
part after you click Enable.
By agreeing to participate in the Spyware Retrieval Service, you authorize Aluria Software to
occasionally look for specific files on your computer that we suspect of being spyware. If we
find one of these files, we will transmit it back to our Spyware Lab for evaluation. If our
experts determine the suspect file to be spyware, it will then be added to our spyware DAT
files. Absolutely no personal information is ever transferred —only suspected spyware files.
To participate in SRS, from Advanced Options, click the SRS tab, and then select Enable. If
you no longer wish to participate in SRS, clear the check box.
Note You can also enable SRS during set up. The Configuration Wizard will prompt you.

19. Updates tab
Under the Security Center advanced option Updates, you can set Security Center to:
Prompt before downloading or installing updates
- By selecting this option you will be prompted to first, update your product, and
second, to install the downloaded updates.
Automatically download then prompt to install
- By selecting this option you will be notified when an update has occurred, and
then you will be prompted to install the downloaded update(s).
Automatically download and install without prompting
- This is the Aluria Anti-Spyware default automatic updates option. By selecting
this option, you will receive notification when Aluria Anti-Spyware checks for
updates. If updates are available, Aluria Anti-Spyware will automatically
download them, and then display a second notification to inform you that the
updates are complete.
Managing Found Spyware
Removal Options
Once a scan completes you have two options for removal from the suspect items list:
Trust
Remove
Trust
Choose Trust if the detection is a program you intentionally installed and do not want to
remove. Examples of items you may wish to Trust include ad-supported software or Internet
monitoring software for parents to monitor their children's activity on the Internet. Items you
Trust will be moved to the Trusted Items List and will not be detected in future scans. To
Trust an item, select it with your mouse, and then click Trust.
Remove
Choose Remove if the suspect item is an application you unintentionally installed and you
want it removed. Examples of items you may wish to Remove include any found items listed
under the Spyware tab on the Scan Results screen. Items you remove will be moved to the
Removed Items List and will be quarantined until you completely delete the file. Items in this
list can no longer harm your computer. To remove an item, select it with your mouse, and
then click Remove.

20. Note items that have neither been trusted or removed are considered ignored. Ignored items
will not be quarantined and will be detected in future scans.
Summary
Once you have selected your options, click Done. A summary screen will display, by
category, the number of items found, removed, trusted, and ignored.
Some removed suspect items will require you to restart your computer. If a restart is
required, you will see a Removal Complete - Restart Required message on the Summary
screen. To restart your computer from this screen, click Restart My Computer.
Once you are satisfied with your summary results you can exit the scan portion of Aluria Anti-
Spyware by clicking Done.
Trusted Items and Removed Items List
Suspect items detected during Aluria Anti-Spyware's scan of your computer may be added to
either the Trusted Items List or the Removed Items List.
Trusted Items List
Items you have decided to trust are added to the Trusted Items List. Items on this list are not
quarantined or removed from your computer, and are not detected in Aluria Anti-Spyware
scans.
To view your Trusted Items List, under View, click Trusted Items List.
By trusting an item Aluria Anti-Spyware has identified as a suspect threat, you may
experience negative results or affects. To remove an item, from your Trusted Items List, click

21. Remove From List. Items removed from the Trusted Items List will no longer be allowed to
function on your computer, and will be detected in future scans.
Removed Items List
Suspect items you have decided to remove are placed on the Removed Items List. Removed
items are placed in a quarantined location and can no longer harm your computer.
Applications on the Removed Items List can be deleted entirely from your computer, or you
can restore any applications if you are not happy with the results of the removal.
To view your Removed Items List, under View, click Removed Items List.
There are three options available to you in the Removed Items List:
Restore
Delete
Delete All
Restore
If you experience negative results following the removal of suspect items from your
computer, you can restore your system back its state before the detection and removal. To
restore a suspect item on your Removed Items List, select the item, and then click Restore.
Restored items will be added to your Trusted Items List, and will be allowed to function on
your computer without being detected in future scans.

22. Delete - Delete All
Items in the Removed Items List have been safely removed from areas where they can harm
your computer, but are not deleted from your system. If you are satisfied with the results of
the removal and have experienced no harmful side effects, Aluria recommends deleting the
items in your Removed Items List periodically. You have two options for deleting suspect
items. To delete an individual application highlight the file and select Delete. To delete all
files in the list click Delete All.
Note Choosing to Delete or Delete All will remove all files permanently, and you should
ensure that you are satisfied with the removal results before choosing this option.
Performing A Scan
Categories
For your review, once you have performed a scan, the list of detected items is organized into
two categories:
Spyware
Consumerware
Spyware
Spyware is software that covertly monitors your computer and is often surreptitiously
installed without your informed consent. Examples include spyware, adware, and keyloggers.
Generally, anything that appears in this category should be removed as spyware may pose a
risk to your privacy, security, and system stability.
Consumerware
Consumerware is a new type of suspect category. These useful ad-supported applications,

Detected Items
Once a scan has completed Aluria Anti-Spyware presents you with a Scan Results screen
that displays total found Items and their Components.

23. Items and Components
An Item is a parent to its (child) Component variants. Components are merely files or registry
keys associated with an item. An example of the Item-Component relationship is Gator.
Gator is a single item, but it may have 10 components.
To view an Item’s specific Components, from the Scan Results list, double-click the item
whose details you want to view.
The Scan Results screen also lists found items individually by Name, Actions, and Severity
(ranging from Low to Guarded, Elevated, High and Severe.)
To learn more about an item's Actions or Severity, double-click the Actions and/or Severity
buttons from the top of the Scan Results list.

24. To see the Detailed Results View dialog for a particular item, double-click on the found item.
Clicking Description will display a detailed textual description of the threat.
Clicking Actions in the Detailed Results View will display the type of actions a particular item
typically performs.
Clicking Variant and Path will display details on where the suspect item was located on your
PC.

25. To close the Detailed Results Dialog and return to your list of scan results, click Close.
Scanning
To run a scan on your computer, from the Security Center toolbar click Anti-Spyware, and
then click Scan Now. This will initiate a scan based on the configuration method you
previously selected, during set up, via the Configuration Wizard.
The first time you perform a scan, the Initial Scan dialog box will be displayed. This one-time
system analysis takes only a few minutes to complete, and is useful in calculating estimated
time remaining for future file scans.
Once the scan is in progress you will see a collapsed view Scan In Progress dialog
displaying the current status of your scan. This screen displays the following details about
your scan progress:

Est. Time Remaining (in minutes)
Amount of files, memory and registry entries scanned

26. To see the expanded view Scan In Progress dialog click More Info. The expanded view
Scan In Progress dialog displays the following details about your scan progress:

Location of files scanned (whether Local Drive, Network Drive(s), Registry, Memory,

27. To resume your scan, click Run Complete Scan. To view your partial scan results, click
View Scan Results. To close this dialog and return to the results list view, click Close.
Note If you have purchased the Security Center suite, you can set your software to scan for
both spyware and viruses in one convenient OneScan. If you choose to run your computer in
a OneScan, please note that your scan and removal instructions will vary slightly from those
shown below.
Activity Log
For your review, the Activity Log that lists a record of activity generated while running Aluria
Anti-Spyware. New activities are added to the list in subsequent order as they occur, and
may include information about scans performed, items blocked, and objects deleted.
To view your Activity Log, under View, click Activity Log.
You may wish to periodically clear your Activity Log. To clear you log, from the Activity Log
screen, click Clear Results. To exit the Activity Log and return to Aluria Anti-Spyware, click
Close.
Homepage Control
Spyware known as Homepage hijackers can alter your home page to display a different Web
site without your authorization. Often these hijacks are complex, and while you can change
the settings in Internet Explorer to temporarily resolve the problem, this action alone is not
enough. Aluria Anti-Spyware's Homepage Control allows you to reset your Web site to the
home page of your choosing.
To set your home page to the Web page of your choice, from the Options menu, click
Homepage Control. Copy and paste or type the URL of the desired Web site into the
provided field, and then click Set My Homepage.
To copy and paste a URL, first open your Web browser and browse the desired Web site.
Then select the URL in the address bar, and press Ctrl + C to copy the URL. Now click in the
Homepage Control field and press Ctrl + V to paste. Now click Set My Homepage.

28. Note Homepage Control is intended to correct any hijackings that occur, but does not
prevent your home page from being hijacked initially. Some programs install files into the
files into the file system to restore a hijack. To prevent your home page from being hijacked,
Aluria recommends periodically performing full system scans to detect and remove hijacker-
related suspect files.

About Aluria Anti-Virus
Aluria Anti-Virus allows you to detect and remove all types of viruses, worms, and Trojans
that infect your computer, destroy your files, and ruin your PC performance. Created to work
together with its specially designed Security Center components, Aluria Anti-Virus provides
an essential tier of protection against viruses that seek to attack, infect, and destroy
information on unprotected PCs.
Setting Up Aluria Anti-Virus
Standard Configuration Instructions
Security Center is equipped with an easy-to-use Configuration Wizard designed to help you
quickly configure your Aluria Anti-Virus to suit your needs. Once you have installed and
registered Aluria Anti-Virus, the first time you click on the Anti-Virus icon from the Security
Center toolbar, the Configuration Wizard will display. You may also run the Configuration
Wizard by clicking Configuration Wizard under the Aluria Anti-Virus Tools menu.
For your convenience, Aluria Anti-Virus offers you two methods of configuration:
Typical
Custom
Typical
Aluria recommends Typical configuration for most users. Selecting Typical will allow Aluria
Anti-Virus to scan your computer's local drives and registry.
By default, Typical configuration also sets your computer to scan at regularly scheduled
intervals and enables Aluria Anti-Virus to automatically retrieve available updates.
Custom
Custom configuration is normally only recommended for advanced users.
Selecting Custom allows you to set custom scan options, scheduling and updates.
Note If you have purchased the Security Center suite, you can set your software to scan for
both spyware and viruses in one convenient OneScan. To configure your software to run
OneScan, see Setting Up OneScan.

30. Once you have successfully registered and set up Aluria Anti-Virus to suit your needs, you
are ready to start scanning for and removing viruses from your computer. To remove viruses
from your computer you need to:

Scan Your Computer
To start a scan of your computer, from the Security Center toolbar click Anti-Virus, and
then click Scan Now. This will initiate a scan based on the configuration method (whether
typical or custom) you previously selected, during set up, via the Configuration Wizard.
Please be patient while the scan is in progress.
Scan results
Once a scan has completed, Aluria Anti-Virus presents you with a Scan Results screen that
displays total found Items and their Components. An Item is a parent to its (child)
Components. In the case of viruses, viruses are items and their components are merely the
files that the virus has attached to. For example, if the W32.Beagle.CG@mm virus (an item)
infects three files on your computer, those three files would be that item's components.
Found items are categorized under the Virus and Consumerware tabs. Under each of tab,
the Name, Behavior, and Action of each threat is listed for your review.
Clean Found Items
For your protection, by default, found items are set to be cleaned from your computer.
However, if you do not want an item cleaned, you may choose to quarantine or ignore it. To
clean, quarantine, or ignore a single found item, from the item’s Action list drop-down, right-
click and select Clean, Quarantine, or No Action, and then click Next.
Note Aluria recommends you choose Clean if you do not recognize the suspect item and
want it removed. Examples of items you may wish to clean from your computer include any
found items listed under the Viruses tab on the Scan Results screen.
Review Your Scan Summary
Once you have selected your options and clicked Next, A summary screen will display.
Detailed and comprehensive, this screen will help you quickly reference how many infected
files were found, cleaned, quarantined, or ignored. Once you are satisfied with your summary
results you can exit the scan portion of Aluria Anti-Spyware by clicking Done.

About Aluria Anti-Spam
Aluria Anti-Spam is built to provide optimum protection against the bombardment of spam.
Aluria Anti-Spam effectively blocks 99% of junk in real-time and works with all major e-mail
clients, including Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, and Eudora.

Setting Up Aluria Anti-Spam
Security Center is equipped with an easy-to-use Setup Wizard designed to help you
seamlessly integrate Aluria Anti-Spam with your e-mail client. For your convenience, the
Setup Wizard will automatically display as soon as you have installed and registered your
Aluria Anti-Spam product.
Note you can also access the Aluria Anti-Spam Setup Wizard from the Security Center
toolbar. Select Anti-Spam from the Security Center toolbar, and from under the Tools menu,
click Set Up Now.
Once you have started the Setup Wizard, you will be prompted to select the e-mail client you
want Aluria Anti-Spam to integrate with. Choose Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook
Express, or Other. The "Other" option includes Netscape Messenger, Eudora, and most pop
e-mail clients.
Note If you change e-mail clients, or would like to switch Aluria Anti-Spam to filter a different
e-mail client, you may do so. From the Security Center toolbar click Anti-Spam, and from
under the Tools menu, select Setup Wizard.

32. Be advised that by changing your e-mail client from the one originally specified, Aluria Anti-
Spam will no longer filter spam from that e-mail client. You will lose all spam-filtering
functionality from the old e-mail client, and instead, Aluria Anti-Spam will re-configure to filter
the newly specified e-mail client only.
Microsoft Outlook Users
Once you've chosen your e-mail client, your Aluria Anti-Spam set up is complete. Click
Finish to exit the Setup Wizard.
Microsoft Outlook Express and "Other" Users
Once you've chosen your e-mail client, your Aluria Anti-Spam set up is complete. Click
Finish to close the Setup Wizard and launch configuration help.

33. Note If you are running the Aluria Anti-Spam 15-Day Trial Version, at the end of the trial you
can purchase the Aluria Anti-Spam Full Version, or you can uninstall the software from your
computer. To uninstall Aluria Anti-Spam you must, from the Anti-Spam screen, click I Want
To Uninstall Aluria Anti-Spam.
Start Using Aluria Anti-Spam
Once you have successfully registered and set up Aluria Anti-Spam to integrate with your e-
mail client, you are ready to start filtering spam. Depending on the e-mail client you selected
during Setup, your instructions for using Aluria Anti-Spam on your computer will vary. Please
click your e-mail client below and follow the instructions provided.
Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Outlook Express and "Other"(Netscape, Eudora, and most pop e-mail
clients)
Microsoft Outlook Users
For your convenience, once installed, Aluria Anti-Spam comes pre-configured to block
incoming spam from entering your Inbox. To turn on the spam blocker, first, from your
desktop, open your e-mail client. Once opened, the Create a Folder dialog box will display. In
the Create a Folder dialog box, click to the location where you want caught spam sent to and
enter a name for your spam folder. By default the Inbox is selected. We recommend you
choose this location. Once you have named your folder, click OK.

34. After you've created the spam folder, Aluria Anti-Spam will immediately start filtering spam
from your Inbox into the spam folder. From the spam folder you can review the caught spam
at anytime. You can also adjust settings and block and approve messages on a case-by-
case basis by using the Aluria Anti-Spam toolbar located near the top of your e-mail client's
screen.
Microsoft Outlook Express and "Other" Users
To start using Aluria Anti-Spam, you will need to first configure your e-mail client. This help
should display when after you finished your Aluria Anti-Spyware setup. You can also access
this help by right-clicking on the Aluria Anti-Spam icon located in your system tray, and from
the menu, choose View Help. From within help, click Configuring Your E-mail Client, and
follow the instructions.
Once you have configured your e-mail client, Aluria Anti-Spam will immediately start filtering
spam from your Inbox. To access your Aluria Anti-Spam controls, right-click on the Aluria
Anti-Spam icon in your system tray. From this menu you can access the Admin Console, add
and block senders, and much more.

35. Firewall
About Aluria Firewall
Easy to install, setup, and use, Aluria Firewall is the powerful personal firewall that protects
your privacy and identity from malicious hackers, Web pages, programs, and other
unforeseen threats. Built to provide powerful privacy protection, Aluria Firewall allows you to
hide your ports, making your PC invisible to intruders on the Internet, and alerts you to
serious attacks at the moment they occur.
Selecting Security Settings
Security Center is equipped with an easy-to-use firewall configuration screen. To set Aluria
Firewall to suit your needs, on the Security Center Navigation bar, under the Firewall tab,
choose your desired security level on the Aluria Firewall slide bar. When you are satisfied
with your selection, click Apply.
For your convenience, your levels of security include:
Off
Low
Medium
High
Off
This setting disables your firewall, allowing a free flow of traffic to and from your computer.
Low
This setting is for users who want minimal safeguards. Low blocks unknown inbound traffic
and does not try to alert you if programs access the Internet.
Medium
Choose medium to allow the most popular programs and connection types used on the
Internet. Programs such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Microsoft Outlook, and more are
automatically allowed to connect to the Internet. This is the recommended security level.
High
When Firewall is set to High, only Aluria Software approved programs, such as Internet
Explorer, are allowed to connect by default. No other connections are allowed without your
express permission. Each time any program tries to connect to the Internet, you will see a
Firewall alert, allowing you to temporarily or permanently Block or Allow the connection.

36. Note The level of security you select will determine what programs, called "Recommended
Exceptions that Aluria Firewall will allow or block. To view these pre-configured exceptions,
after you have selected your desired security level on the slider and then hit apply, click
Exceptions from the Firewall Home left navigation bar. From the displayed dialogue, click
the Recommended Exceptions tab.
Creating Exceptions
To create an exception, from the Security Center toolbar, click Firewall, and then click
Exceptions. Under the My Exceptions tab, click Add App Exception.
In the pop-up dialog select your traffic control preferences, browse to the location of the
application that you want to make an exception for, and then click Save.
Note You can only create exceptions if Aluria Firewall is set to Low, Medium or High security.

37. Deleting and Editing My Exceptions
To delete an exception, check the box next to the exception on the list, and then click Delete.
To edit an exception, click anywhere on its line to highlight the exception you want to edit - It
doesn't matter whether the exception's box is checked or not - and then click Edit.
Modifying Recommended Exceptions
Periodically, you may decide to disallow certain default connections that are approved by
Aluria Software. Although changing these recommended actions is not advised, you may do
so by selecting Exceptions, and under the Recommended Exceptions tab, uncheck the
box next to the exception on the list.

purchased both Aluria Anti-Spyware and Aluria Anti-Virus to scan for spyware and viruses at
the same time. Faster, easier, and more efficient than performing scans separately, Aluria
OneScan saves you time and frustration by simultaneously scanning your system files
against a comprehensive database of spyware and virus threats. Combining powerful anti-
virus and anti-spyware scan engine technology with a single, simplified user interface and
convenient, shared scheduled scan times, Aluria OneScan is the most thorough, easy-to-use
tool for detecting, managing, and removing all types of spyware, viruses, adware,
keyloggers, Trojans, worms, and ActiveX applications.
Setting Up OneScan
Security Center automatically detects when you have both Aluria Anti-Spyware and Aluria
Anti-Virus registered. To save you time and effort, when the second of the two products is
registered, Security Center will display a OneScan Available dialog. To activate OneScan,
select I Want to Set My Security Center to OneScan, and then click Close.
Once you have activated OneScan, the Security Center Configuration Wizard will display.
Follow the prompts to configure your OneScan to suit your needs.
Note To deactivate your OneScan and run two separate spyware and virus scans, from
under the Security Center Home, or Aluria OneScan screens, de-select I Want to Set My
Security Center to OneScan.
