ARTS is developing an innovative virtual reality platform using drones to explore coral reefs remotely in real-time. Users will be able to experience reefs via VR headsets and participate in environmental research as citizen scientists. The technology uses affordable DIY drones with stereo cameras integrated with VR headsets. ARTS will partner with aquariums and museums to install VR stations allowing visitors to explore reefs, while generating revenue through fees. The goal is to empower people to help monitor and restore reefs affected by climate change through an engaging gaming platform.
It's often said that investors don't invest in the idea they invest in teams - and the rush begins to find a technical cofounder. How do you start with a concept and build a team even a prototype before raising investment? In this talk we discuss what goes into finding, motivating and coordinating talented engineers who are bombarded with an abundance of opportunities.

#SciChallenge2017 Underwater Cyclops - monitoring of reservoirs has never bee...Zsolt Zsigo
#SciChallenge2017
Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles (ROV) for monitoring and maintaining reservoirs have never been used in Hungary before. A lot of water could be saved by using ROV for maintenance of the reservoirs in local water utility companies. We have contacted experts from local water utility companies to find ways to cooperate. They showed interest and started to give ideas how the ROV should be used for water conservation.
EUROHUL is a compact and complete shipyard with excellent facilities, including drydocks (PPA- COSCO owner), to secure the best possible quality on every process in the outfitting, integration and finishing of new buildings, ship repairs and conversions. All assets are in walking distance from the yard administration offices.

2. Imagine being able to explore coral
reefs remotely in real-time via drones
IN VIRTUAL REALITY
And conducting environmental
research as a citizen scientists.
Now you can save coral reefs via a
virtual reality gaming platform soon
to be made available at local
museums and aquariums.
THE VISION
3. THE TECHNOLOGY
Low cost DIY OpenROVs drones -
modified for stereoscopic vision
Virtual reality via Oculus integration
Environmental sensors for research
4.
5. MAKER CORPS
ARTS is a flagship project for Maker
Corps, a nonprofit organization that
organizes maker tourism voyages to
teach maker skills while supporting
social and environmental projects.
We partner with OpenROV and The
Hydrous to provide technical training
EACH MAKER CORPS VOYAGE
Allows ARTS to establish community
partnerships and pilot projects
around the world.
● Donates $10K of hardware
● Generates $15K in revenue
- for research initiatives
- improving ARTS design
- quality testing & assurance
- training local partners
Build drones. Save corals!
6. BUSINESS MODEL
● Installation fee for partnering with
aquariums and museums. Higher
commercial rate for installations
on cruise ships and resorts.
● Set up your own Oculus home
stations for $650 and get a year
of free access to content.
● Subscribe to ARTS gaming
platform for $19.99/month.
● Additional fee to get access to
content from partner aquariums.
● Additional fee to get access to
pilot a drone in real-time.
● Training programs to access
more engaging drone missions.
● Products for sale include:
3D printed corals (The Hydrous)
ARTS is a innovative hardware company, gaming platform, educational nonprofit
operating as a software as a service company with scalable results
7. COMMERCIAL VALUE PROPOSITION
ARTS has the following benefits:
● Lower acquisition and operation
cost (compare $40K daily cost of
Nautilus Live expeditions)
● Safer than manned submersibles
● Potential for permanent
installation and autonomous
navigation protocols
● Availability of increasingly low
cost and micronized sensors
● Leverages the value of a human
pilot and computer vision
Established ROV companies have
started sponsoring Maker Corps
voyages in the hopes of increasing
and democratizing access to corals.
Empowering individuals to fight the
effects of climate change on ocean
ecosystems. And growing a volunteer
community of trained engineers.
All we need is a passionate audience.
So we are partnering with aquariums.
Cal Academy of Sciences
8. At 25 feet deep and 212,000-gallons, the Philippine
Coral Reef exhibit is one of the deepest & largest
displays of living coral in the world. Under the surface,
thousands of fish mingle with eels, anemones,
starfish, and coral, creating some of the most dramatic
views available without diving.
10. ENGAGE AUDIENCES
ARTS is pursuing a partnership with Cal Academy of
Sciences staff to create a permanent installation that will
engage members at the museum and remotely from home.
● Oculus stations on site for 3-5 members to experience
● Within virtual model users can learn about the ROV
and unlock relevant educational content about the reef
● Create a constant stream of social media content
- images, video, etc - for members to share
● Re-engage Cal Academy members from home
# use hashtags to target content relevant to interests
In the future ARTS stations installed will connect to coral
reefs around the world, allowing individuals to participate in
environmental monitoring, research and restoration of reefs
powered by the curiosity to know more about the oceans.
