This document summarizes and analyzes land reform and the latifundia system of large landed estates in three regions of Colombia during the National Front period from 1958-1974. It describes the geography, history of settlement, and traditional agricultural economies of the Tequendama province, Northern Cauca department, and South Atlantic department. It then discusses the land reform laws passed during this period that aimed to redistribute private property to landless farmers, as well as the political and economic context surrounding these reforms. The document argues that the land reforms and evolution of the latifundia system led to negative socioeconomic effects and reduced rural democracy.
