The Peace & Plenty Hotel has a long history in Exuma, Bahamas dating back to 1783 when it was established as a cotton plantation. It has operated as a hotel since the 1950s, providing accommodations and transportation for visitors. The hotel was completely renovated and now operates as part of a family of hotels and restaurants catering to tourism in Great Exuma. It remains a popular gathering place for both locals and distinguished international guests.

The Peace & Plenty Hotel is a legend in Bahamian tourism with locals and visitors.
British traditions and lifestyles have remained strong throughout the years with the
original Club Peace and Plenty being a favorite spot for the royals and other distinguished
clientele.
In 1783, Lord Denys Rolle set sail for Exuma on board the English trading ship, “ Peace
and Plenty, “ to establish a cotton plantation. Almost 200 years later, a grand-nephew of
Henry Flagler purchased a house on Elizabeth Harbour and built a resort around it.
Peace and Plenty has always been a tradition in George Town. This charming waterfront
hotel, which has been completely renovated, is a center of activity and ferry headquarters
for visitors going to Stocking Island, and yachtsmen from all over the world
Mr. Robert Minns, a Bahamian, who died in 1945 had owned the property before it was
sold to H.G.Christie (later Sir Harold). The family home was the birthplace of all six of
his children. Basil Minns, one of his sons was born in 1929 and is the eldest of four living
children. Robert Minns converted the entire building into a home. The former owner had
used the second floor as a sponge loft. One section of the house was utilized as a general
store where both groceries and dry goods were sold.
In the 1950’s H.G. Christie sold it to Lawrence Lewis of Richmond, Virginia. The hotel
was officially opened on January 14, 1958. There were 20 guest rooms during this time
and amenities included a dining room, bar, small swimming pool, boat and daily
transportation to Stocking Island.
Joined by the Beach Inn and the Bonefish Lodge, the Peace & Plenty family of
accommodations and restaurants is the heart of land- based tourism to Great Exuma
Stanley and Jeanne Benjamin, the owners, fell in love with the property on a visit to
Exuma in 1969. Mr. Charlie Pflueger manages the property. Icon bartender Lermon
Rolle has been with Club Peace & Plenty for 28 years.
The Peace & Plenty hotel will once again be the unofficial headquarters for the yachting
crowd who will be attending the 50th annual world renowned Family Island Regatta
being held in April 2003. The regatta will be a magnificent sight and thousands of local
Bahamians and visitors will be in George Town for this celebration.
