1. The Real Shelby Throughgood.
I was sittingina small café incentral London,waitingforherto arrive.People outsidewere fast-
movingandbusy,but fromthe crowd,I saw Shelbyapproachme.She lookedamazing;black
cigarette trousers,acute crop top,and gorgeousnude Loubitons. Iknew Ihada star in my presence.
I was greetedbyawarm, and friendlysmile,butatthe same time,I wasslightlyintimidatedbyher
edgy,andon-trendstyle.We orderedtwocappuccinos,and startednatteringlikewe’dbeenfriends
for years. Despite havingsomuchfun,itwastime to getdownto business.
So Shelby,tell us about your recent rise to fame.
Well,Iwas justdoingwhatI love,singingonthe street,inbars,justsmall gigsreally,Iwasnever
expectingtogettowhere I am now.I’mjusta normal girl,sowhenI wasapproachedby someone in
one of the pubsI was singingat,I thoughthe wasjoking!Butobviously,whenhe handedme his
card, I knewthatI wantedmore fromsingingthanjust small-time gigs.Fromthatmoment,itwas
practise,practise,practise,anditwasn’teasy. Butthrougha LOT of hard work,I gotthe recorddeal
I alwaysdreamedof,anditall started fromthere really.SingingiswhatIlove,fame isjustan added
bonus.
It must have beentough, how didyour friendsand familyfeel about it?
I’malwaysout workingnowadays,soIbarelysee them. It’shard,notseeingmymumfor dayson
end,butmy familyare all reallysupportive,andknow thatI’ve gotto make sacrifices.EvenwhenI
was little,singingwasall Ithoughtabout,somy mumknowshow much I wantthis.My friendson
the otherhand,see my fame as an opportunityforthemtogetfree concerttickets,andmeetloads
of celebs!Imean,that’sfine,they’re alwaysthereforme andthat’swhat matters.
Speakingof celebs,youmust have met quite a fewrecently,am I right?
Yeah,I have metloadsof othersingersfromthe same recordcompanyas me,mostof themonly
juston the scene,butone day I knowthey’ll be big!I’ve alsomade quite goodfriendswithFKA
Twigs,whoI’ve alwaysbeenahuge fanof,we talkaboutmusica lot,andshe eveninvitedme
backstage at her nextappearance.It’ssurreal tothinkthatnow people actuallyknow myname!I’ve
alsomet...err…CraigDavid,he wasreallycool,I can’twait to meetmore ormy favourite artists!
So you’ve made a lot ofnew friends,but any newmen on the scene?
Hmmm…that’sa little todirect!(Laughs) Idon’twantto start namingnames,butyes,there mightbe
someone newinmylife.It’sfairlynewsoI’mnot sure what’sgoingtohappen,butI’moptimistic!

of December.It’sall abouthow
everythinginmylife ischangingsoquickly,I’veliterallycome fromanothing,toa something,and
that wassomethingIwantedtowrite aboutin mymusic.It’sabout love,friendship,my career,
basicallyeverythingthatisnewinmy life.Ihope myfansconnectwiththe song,as much as I do.

2. Yeah,my firsttour ishappeningnextyear,andIam so excited!Iwill be performingsongsfrommy
previousalbum,‘can’t’ aswell asmynextalbum, whichwill be releasedalongside mysingle,‘think
aboutit’!There’slotsof excitingstuff happeningnextyear,andIhave loadsof concertsplanned. I’m
goingall aroundthe UK, I’mvisitingthe Europe,andthe states. Ijustwant to meetasmany of my
fansas I can; nextyearisgoingto be a bigone.
You’re an R&B star, but what other R&B artists do you look up to?
My all time favourite singerhasgotto be AliciaKeys,she’samazingandshe reallyinspiresme.Ican
listentoheralbumsonrepeatfor days!Beingable tomeetand talkto Aliciawouldbe suchan
absolute dream;she’ssomeone whomade me love R&Bfromdayone.But obviouslythere are other
legendsoutthere –WhitneyHouston,Rihanna,JohnLegend,thereare somanyI can’t count!
So beside fromall this singingand touring, what else are you interestedin?
I knowthissoundscrazy,alreadyhavinga successful careerandall,butI reallywouldlike togoto
university.It’salwaysbeensomethingI’ve wantedtodo,I justlove meetingnew people and
learningnewthings!Maybe I’ll have the chance tocontinue my educationone day!Besidesfrom
that, I alsoreallylove dancing,andIcan’twait to show youguyssome movesontour nextyear!
