I am professional Web Designer & Front-End Developer with over 10 years of experience. To take a challenging role in a highly technical company where I could utilize my skills in Web Designing, Front-End Web Development, HTML5, CSS3, web standards and various web scripting technologies.
Customizing Discovery Interfaces: Understanding Users’ Behaviors and Providin...Rachel Vacek
Customizing a library discovery layer using open-source software enables libraries to tailor services to its users, understand user behavior at user, department, and campus levels, and build integrations with library and campus services. Learn how and why a research library built a discovery interface to consolidate multiple interfaces into one.

EXPERIENCE
Can<i>Walk? | The Iron Yard
April 2016
In the final three weeks of the Iron Yard my team of two backend and two frontend engineers
developed a webapp with an Angular UI and Rails API. The app allows users to enter a destination
in order to develop a route based on their current destination with details regarding weather, ease,
accessibility, enjoyability, distance and time. After completing a walk the user can rate the route.
CAN<i>WALK offers street, map, or satellite view and populates the route with favorite places of
users by comparing different users’ previous routes. These routes can be revisited from the user
dashboard. If a user is unsure where they might like to walk, the app generates suggestions based on
current location and a user’s distance preferences. To accomplish this from the backend, we
consumed Weather Underground’s API and rendered filtered SQL queries of our database as an
API for the front end to consume. Other backend services include mailers for password resetting
and email conformation beyond security precautions managed through token authentication.
Duke Perkins Library | Durham, NC | Administrative Intern
April 2015 – August 2015
I maintained the map and periodical collection, including processing new materials.
Alexander County Prison | Taylorsville, NC | Teacher
May 2014 – August 2014
I developed a syllabus and curriculum, taught weekly, acquired funding for materials, organized with
prison administration, recruited students from prison and church, and shadowed the prison
chaplain.
Judson University Library | Elgin, IL | Circulation Manager
August 2009 – August 2012
Beginning as a circulation assistant, I was promoted to research assistant and eventually circulation
supervisor. As the latter I budgeted supply and employee budget, trained new employees, taught
seminar on library operation, and restructured interlibrary processing.
EDUCATION
The Iron Yard
February 2016 – April 2016
Studied 60-80 hours/week in backend engineering class of coding boot camp where I completed
assignments and pushed to github nightly during the week and larger assignments over the weekend.
Duke University | Durham, NC | Masters of Divinity
August 2012 – May 2015
Studied religion and social structures, which taught me how to be acutely sensitive to issues of
identity and an effective communicator.
