Army Leadership Analysis
The Foundation of Army Leadership is not just about the Army. Leadership as a whole, in all aspects
of life, is an essential tool. Creating a leader takes great patience, a difficult art form to master. Not
everyone in charge is a leader, and not every leader is in charge. Foundations of Army leadership is
a topic every soldier should know.
"The day the soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you stopped leading them. They
have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a
failure of leadership." This quote from Colin Powell is powerful and it makes you reflect the
fundamental responsibility as a leader. Two basic responsibilities for an NCO is the accomplishment
of the mission, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often times we see that individual who maintains his/her military bearing. The soldier who is
physically and mentally resilient, displaying discipline but lacks the knowledge needed to be a
leader. This is where competencies come in. Someone who can lead, develop and achieve.
Leading others require immediately building trust. Trust comes with leading by example; proper
communication and being a steward of his/her own profession. Developing soldiers by creating a
positive environment is key to foster an esprit de corps. A leader, who follows what the foundations
of leadership is, will achieve the tasks.
The Army is turning 243 years old on June 14 this year, meaning its inception was June 14, 1775.
The foundation of Army leadership dates back well before rules and regulations of today. The
George Washington's, Abraham Lincoln's and the Colin Powell's, wherever you see a leader, they
have exemplified the meaning. Lived the Army values, had the core competencies and attributes to
be great. That is 243 years of excellence. That is 243 years of being the best. With all the years past,
it falls back to one particular of why and how. The Foundations of Army Leadership is what we all
should strive to learn, know and never

The Seven Army Values Essay
An event that occurred in my life that will help me succeed at Colorado Christian University is the
day I joined the U.S. Army. This event means more than anything to me because it's something that
not very many people do that I did and got the courage to do. So far the Army has taught me many
techniques and ways to be successful in everything you do. From personal courage, discipline, and
integrity you learn that you can do anything you want by just pushing yourself and finding deep
within what it is your dreams and lifelong goals are. To begin with, college has always been one of
those things that I have wanted and just needed to do. I was unsure for the longest of how, what, or

Loyalty; to be loyal to what you do. Being loyal to my school work and being persistent in any
assignment that I have. Duty means to put the mission first; get whatever it is that you need done
and keep moving forward in all tasks. Respect falls under everything that we do. You have to have
respect for yourself; for your peers; and for those that are trying to lead you and teach you. Selfless
Service; putting others before yourself. This one really means a lot to me in many ways but the most
important is that every day we wake you have to have that thought of what it is were going to do
today to help others. And as for professors; teachers; preachers; firefighters, etc. Everyone waking to
put others before themselves to help people learn or to maybe just save a life that day. Every person
has selfless service to be able to do whatever it is that they may do. Honor; to honor those before
you, with you, and after you. For all that they do. Honoring the man or woman that takes there time
to better you. Integrity; being honest, faithful, committed, and staying true to what it is you're
fighting for. Lastly, Personal Courage; taking the initiative to do the unthinkable. To be able to stand

United States Military Profession
The Case for the Military Profession
Merriam–Webster defines a profession as, "a type of job that requires special education, training or
skill." If one proposes the idea that a person serving in the United States Military is not a profession,
it shows that he or she does not understand the scope of what is expected and required of an
American Soldier today. In fact, one can argue that in the past decade American Soldiers have been
expected to be more professional than they ever have been before. The United States Army is
considered a profession not only by virtue of their predetermined skill sets and their pursuit of
higher learning, but also the values by which they must abide by on a daily basis. From the moment
a civilian swears an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process constantly evolves because leaders within the organization make changes through
bottom up refinement. At the end of every training exercise, an After Action Report (AAR) is
conducted. Even though the exercise has ended, this informal learning is codified in the AAR. This
forum acts as an interface from the lowest to the highest ranking Soldier within the organization.
Not only does the Army require these informal training events, but formal training curriculum is
provided as well. One example of this formal training is the Master Gunner Course at Fort Benning,
Georgia. The Army recognized a need for a professional at the Battalion level to ensure that proper
procedures are being conducted on all mobile weapon systems the United States Army employs. At
any Master Gunner Course, a Soldier will be expected to learn every technical detail of any given
the vehicle and its accompanying weapon system. This training ensures that the newly graduated
Master Gunner unit is a subject matter expert. This person is expected to be able to safely carry out
effective maintenance and training exercises for their unit. Professionals such as

Legacy Leaders “Leader Of Influence” – Msg Smith. The Purpose
Legacy Leaders "Leader of Influence" – MSG Smith The purpose of this paper is to discuss a
Legacy Leader from whom I received either negative or positive influence from. For this paper, I
have chosen a leader who left a significant negative impact on me, thus providing for me examples
of what not to be as a leader. It was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina that I came face to face with one
of the worst examples of leadership and negative role models I have encountered in my 14+ year
Army career. The impact and impressions that MSG Smith left on me have been burned in my
memory ever since. I was shown an example of how not to conduct myself when in positions of
authority over others. As in all experiences, I truly believe that there is ... Show more content on

Countless times I observed her using derogatory comments about seniors, peers and subordinates.
She projected an image of her being the only person who could understand the situation or properly
execute assigned tasks. These actions were directly contrary to the Army Value of Respect. She
showed zero respect for others and their contributions to the unit overall. I have observed her use
such insulting language to female Soldiers that it brought them to tears. Never once under MSG
Smith's leadership did I feel respected or appreciated. I would go home each day and vent to my
wife about how miserable my working environment was. On one particular occasion, I came around
the corner of the Battalion Operations office, and walked–in on her talking negatively about me.
This was one of my most hurtful moments in the unit, to observe her denigrating me to my
superiors. Integrity is a value that I place high importance in. Integrity is the ability to do what's
right when no one is watching. This is another Army Value that MSG Smith failed to exhibit or
possess. During this period of time I was working in the Battalion S3 Operations section. On
numerous occasions, I observed CPT Jones tell her what he needed done or give her specific orders.
Not minutes after he would leave the room, she would proceed to not specifically follow his orders
and talk about him to the other Sergeants First Class in the

Either way, lying is not appropriate, even if it was unintentional, and the liar should apologize
appropriately when they are caught in a lie. When a person resorts to lying to others they are only
lying to themselves. A person that is dishonest once will usually lie again and again and many
professions have developed reputations as having a great majority of liars in their field, which has
led to issues of public trust, even with those that are truthful and honest. So why do people choose to
tell lies? A lie usually starts out as innocent in nature but must be covered with a larger more
complex lie and then another and soon the lies build up to a point that the person no longer knows
the difference between what is true and what is a lie. Telling lies always leads to deceit; lack of trust,
losing respect and in many cases the loss of a career. In the military, a non–commissioned officer, or
an NCO, is an enlisted member of an armed force who has been given authority by a commissioned
officer, typically a sergeant or corporal. Being a private, they are of higher rank and deserve a higher
amount of respect. While lying to anyone is unacceptable, lying to a person of higher rank, like an
NCO, is even less acceptable. Not only does it give off the impression that the person of lesser rank
does not respect his elders, but it also degrades the private's trustworthiness. Trust is everything.

My Personal Guideline For Success Essay
I am instructed to write a two thousand five hundred word essay on all seven army values. All the
army values are important to me and are my personal guideline for success. The army values
enlighten
me as a soldier, and are used as a great training method for the United States Army as whole. In the
army it is a sin not to be able to know and recite these seven values for then you, your dedication,
and
stature as a United States soldier would be compromised. Throughout this RBI there will be great
understanding, and knowledge on the seven values along with my diverse example, and opinion in
all
aspects on the topic at hand. I as a writer hope you the reader understand all the army values put
forth
in this essay.
All of the army values play a key role in a soldier's stature. I believe personally that without the
values being implemented by each and every soldier the army would not be where it is today. The
Army
Values are Leadership, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.
These
seven values are also used in an acronym (LDRSHIP) I personally believe for training purposes. The
first
letter in the acronym is loyalty which by army definition means to bear true faith and allegiance to
the
United States constitution, the army, your unit, and other soldiers. That being said United States
soldiers
have loyalty not only to their country but every moving piece associated with the United Sates army.

Comparing The Army Profession Of Arms, Its Culture, And Ethic
An Army White Paper: The Army Profession of Arms, Its Culture, and Ethic The overall objective
of the Army Profession of Arms campaign is for Soldiers and leaders to refine their understanding of
what it means to be professionals––expert members of the Profession of Arms––after nine years of
war and to recommit to a culture of service and the responsibilities and behaviors of our profession
as articulated in the Army Ethic. GEN Martin E. Dempsey, CG, TRADOC The preeminent military

principal duties...some soldiers die and, when they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the Army's professionalization, there have been ebbs and flows in the degree to which the
Army has manifested the nature and motivations of a profession rather than its other organizational
character of government occupation – highly professional in periods of expansion and later phases
of war and less so in periods of contraction after wars, e.g. post–WWII into Korea and post–
Vietnam. Even after the establishment of an all–volunteer force in 1971 and the rebuilding of the
Army NCO Corps post–Vietnam, these ebbs and flow have continued. The Army in Desert Shield–
Desert Storm was highly professional; the Army after the next decade of build–down and the exodus
of captains and other leaders and talent in the late 1990s was arguably much less so. A recent report
suggests that the operating forces of the Army, after nine years of war in the Middle East, exhibit
more clearly the traits and character of a profession, comparatively, to force–generating side of the
Army. So, as described above as a producing organization, the Army really has a dual nature–that of
a government occupation structured as a hierarchical bureaucracy and that of a vocational,
specifically military, profession. Section 1.1 – Where will the balance be? The issue that faces the
Army now, and will more so in the transition period we are entering as we transition from Iraq to

7 Army Values
Army Values
In the US Army, since the moment you decide to enlist, all soldiers are taught the 7 Army Values
during the whole process of Initial Entry Training, the importance to apply each one of them to your
daily life and to live up to them. It is no coincidence that these core values are broken down in the
acronym LDRSHIP. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage
are the qualities the US Army looks for their leaders to possess.
Each one of the 7 Army Values plays an important role in our military leadership, therefore in my
personal opinion, there is not a value that should be considered more important than the others. All
of the 7 Army Values have an impact on each other, and they are all essential to the leader's moral ...

Loyalty is important because trust is the bedrock of the US Army and it is important to have trust
and be loyal to our brothers and sisters in arms because the absence of trust and loyalty and trust in
our soldiers and leaders can destroy the foundation of our units and affect how effective is the
accomplishment of our mission. Duty is important because that is what as soldiers we do every day,
we accomplish all of our assigned tasks to the best of our abilities. To perform your duties is the
minimum that is expected from every soldier and it is exactly what an enlisted soldier believes duty
is. Respect is important because it is also fundamental to build trust between our soldiers and
leaders. It is expected by every soldier, it shows our professionalism and consideration for our
soldiers and leaders no matter what rank they hold and it is considered one of the most basic
customs and courtesies shared in our society. Selfless Service is important because the US Army

Critical Thinking While, knowing your learning style and the significance of it, critical thinking is
just as imperative to a student when making effective decisions. It permits us to think creatively,
enabling us to be more successful not only in school but all aspects of life. It allows us to reason
things out, remain open–minded, identify any bias or prejudices, to make a more confident decision
or new idea. Ellis, 2015, p. 204. Benjamin Bloom describes this process as a ladder for achieving
maximum results. We call it the Bloom's Taxonomy. There are six levels of the Bloom's Taxonomy,
and level one is to remember. The skill of remembering allows us to recite by memory information

Accountability in the Army Essay
The US Army values soldiers that are accountable for their actions. Being accountable means being
dependable; arriving to work and appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being in the right place
at the right time and doing the right thing at the right time. Morning formation is the most imprtant
formation of the day. It is made to get accountability of everyone and to put out any information that
needs to be addressed. Without having accountability there is no way of knowing where soldiers are
or whats going on. Not only does accountability matter in formation, but it is also imperative to have
accountability if all of your weapons and sensitive items. What is accountability? Accountability is

It does not look well on them if they can not complete this task. This actually shows thats the soldier
can't be depended on when they are needed. This also hurts them when they are being looked at for
promotions or any favorable actions. As a soldier you want to always make a great impression on
your leaders, and not being able to make it on time is not acceptable to them. It would make things
run alot smootherif everyone was on time all of the time. If no one was at the right place at the right
time, it would set what ever mission you have back. It also makes a negative impact on your
leadership. However, I also feel that as leaders, they should also realize that things may happen with
the soldiers. Whether its being late to formation, missing an appointment due to some circumstance,
as long as the soldier doesn't make it a habbit then forgiveness should be granted on that instance.
Also you want to use this duty in your personal life. It shows people that youre very dependable.
This is not only a quality we use as soldiers, but as civilans as well. Being late is not only
unacceptable in the army, but it is unacceptable anywhere. This should be the easiest task of being a
soldier. The army has several ways to correct this issue if it is a continuous problem. You can recieve

The Army Values are what the soldiers stand for and who they are. Soldiers will first learn about the
Army Values when they are recruits at basic training. Recruits are molded into soldiers in basic
training thanks to the efforts of their drill sergeants; drill sergeants who emanate the Army Values
and in turn, instill the Army Values into the future soldiers. Soldiers live the Army Values every day
in their lives. A soldier is a professional, defined as "a trusted, disciplined, and relatively
autonomous vocation" (ADRP 1 1–12). They exhibit the Army Values everyday by their actions and
behavior, whether it be towards their leadership and their peers or completing the various tasks
given to them to accomplish. The Army Values help shape and mold the soldier into who they are
and establishes the culture of the Army. The Army Values are especially important for those in
leadership positions. An Army leader is defined as "anyone who by virtue of assumed role or
assigned responsibility inspires and influences people to accomplish organizational goals. Army
leaders motivate people both inside and outside the chain of command to pursue actions, focus

Military Core Values
In the Military there is a large dynamic of different persons and cultures. There are also many
deployments for training and combat. Because of this all Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen
need to be prepared for ethical dilemmas. A foundation based on strong standards, values, and
training will help prepare them for any dilemmas that may arise within an organization or
operational area. One of the things that can help within an organization, is the enforcement of
standards and core values. One example of core values is the Army Values. This can be remembered
by the acronym LDRSHIP. L is loyalty, D is duty, R is respect, S is selfless service, H is honor, I is
integrity, and P is personal courage (army.mil). This must be an all–around enforcement, not just
from the top down. Standards and core values apply to all within an organization. No one is above
or below them, what applies to one applies to all. Once standards and values are followed by all,
sustainment training will come next. Training is essential, but how to conduct it is the question. It is
a consensus felt throughout leadership, that it would be pointless to teach moral philosophy rank and
file (Robinson, 2007, pg. 26). Also who would teach it? Robinson brings up these two points, if it is

It requires you to be candid and sincere with your peers, subordinates, and superiors. Integrity calls
upon you to be honest and honorable in word and deed at all times. Integrity means doing the right
thing even if there is no one watching. To have integrity a person must have the ability to distinguish
the difference between right and wrong, so that when a controversial issue arises the right and
honorable thing will be done. It is an important role in the values because if one does not have
integrity they cannot be trusted on in a time of need or when you are working side by side with them
in every day work. What they say cannot be taken on word alone. I usually take my integrity very
seriously, and it makes me sick to think that I gave that up for something so stupid. We must have
integrity because if we don't we are untrustworthy and unreliable. These are 2 things I never want

My definition of fraternization is an inappropriate relationship between yourself and another
individual, whether lower or more higher ranking then yourself, within your unit. My definition
along with the Army 's definition of fraternization is just a bases of what it could be. Really any
relationship between the soldiers of a different rank which is too personal, will cause problems in a
unit. It is only a matter of time. This is why the Army continues to prohibit relationships that meet
any of the five categories. The Army also does not allow relationships between different categories
of soldiers, it does not matter what ever command or unit that they are in. Examples of this would
would be a recruter, Drill Sergeant or a instructor of any kind. Fraternization is only one form of
many unprofessional relationships.
All United States Army soldiers must take care to avoid inappropriate actions or comments with
other service members, especially those of different ranks that can lead to an inappropriate
appearance. This applies to all unprofessional relationships, whether or not the persons are in the

These values may be positive, as cleanliness, freedom, or education, or negative , as cruelty, crime,

encompassing a large group of people from different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds who have
to establish a set of rules or values for all to find common ground on. The Army Values does just
that. This plays into the role of responsibility because the acronym LDRSHIP displays just that. We
found earlier that to be a leader you have to be responsible they go hand and hand. So by now you
are probably wondering what is LDRSHIP. Leadership is loyalty, duty, respect, self–less service,
honor, integrity, personal courage. These are the values that help each and every service member
cope with the day to day struggles they face and help with their decision making process. I could
define verbatim what these values mean but I would rather tell you what they mean to me. Loyalty
is to be true to oneself and others always, duty is to do what needs to be done, your job. Respect is a
two way street, treat others as you would treat yourself. Self–less service is simply to be able to step

My Leadership Philosophy
My leadership philosophy is fairly straightforward and simple. I believe that a good leader is
someone who helps others to make the best of themselves. A credible leader is able to accomplish
this goal by providing inspiration and confidence in others, which allows them to fulfill the
objectives of their mission and organization. Thus, in helping others to fulfill the goals of an
individual mission, a leader is really helping his subordinates to fulfill their own personal career
goals and develop themselves professionally. The military chain of command plays an integral role
in the type of leadership advocated within the United States Armed Forces as explained in Army
Doctrine ADRP 6–22. This chain of command provides clear distinctions between superiors and
their subordinates, and allows for a clear conception of what sort of obligations the latter has to the
former. Still, superiors are obligated by the armed forces to exemplify qualities that allow them to
inspire the confidence and the respect of their followers. The term leaderships is defined as "the
process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the
mission and improve the organization (ADP 6–22, 2012, p. 1–1). The individual qualities that a
leader routinely demonstrates to successfully inspire the best in others are related to professionalism,
integrity, and respect both on an individual and an organization–wide basis. These qualities enable
leaders to best gain the

Army Leader: Characteristics of LDRSHIP Essay
The Army's definition of leadership is "the process of influencing people by providing purpose,
direction and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the
organization." An army leader is anyone who inspires and influences people to accomplish their
goals. Leaders motivate people both inside and outside the army to help them pursue their goals,
focus thinking, and shape decisions for the better of the army. Leadership can be acquired by anyone
as long as they have the self–determination to do so. The main principles of leadership in the army
are broken down in to the acronym LDRSHIP (loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor,

Situational leadership theory is when a leader adapt's to the situation and the management styles to
the behavioral needs of the individual or group. Trait approach leadership gives more credence to
the qualities and traits that people are born with that make them natural born leaders. Officers are
taught to lead by example which means learning from the officers who came before them. As a
leader in the army, a solider is constantly watched and must uphold the army core values at all times.
Setting a good example for the young, non commissioned officers (NCOs) in the battalion is vital to
the battalions cohesion and morale. In order to lead by example an officer is taught different
leadership styles to incorporate in the field For instance, participating leadership style is especially
appropriate when there is time receive input, information, and recommendations of your
subordinates. The primary goal of the army is to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Leadership can

Military Child Essay

FINAL DRAFT
Military Child: 'Brat'
Pure hell took its course on me as a young innocent girl. Being a military brat definitely impacted
my life in many challenging ways. The term military brat is usually misunderstood by non–military
population. A military brat is a child from a parent who is in the military. My mother was a
commanding officer which made me and my siblings labeled "military brat" The word brat (by
itself) may seem negative. However, we were taught that its not an insult but actually a term of
endearment and respect. Of course the military has a lot of traveling, family orientated, many free

If we moved she would distribute more lashings. My mother was mean and called her discipline
"tough love". Yeah right, my ass it wasn't tough love. She could dissemble my door frame in five
minutes taking away my privacy when I would slam my door from anger.
She would turn off the electricity to my room so that there was no TV, curling irons, games, or any
luxury. The more my mother was a bitch the more I rebelled with braking my curfew, sneaking out,
hiding her badge, taking her files and hiding them. The consequences of misbehavior for a military
brat are generally greater than for a civilian children.
Being labeled a brat was not a choice by any means. However, due to the challenges I endured it has
shaped and molded me into the woman I am today. A woman with values, strength, great
friendships, and unconditional love for all. No longer that innocent girl thanks to the military who
robbed me of that innocence. And It makes want to spit when someone refers to me as a military

Personal Philosophy Of Leadership Essay
Leadership Philosophy by SFC Avila, Jose G. USAR Leadership begins with one's own morals,
values and life experiences. It is not only about knowing how to lead Soldiers, but also about
capitalizing on each Soldiers personal strengths. As Army leaders, we must lead and influence others
by example and, because of this, it is important to live by the Army's values. We, however should
also apply our own values and life experiences to guide Soldiers not only in their quest of becoming
excellent Army leaders, but also productive members of the civilian world. The Army gives us a
guide and its own definition of Army Values with LDRSHIP. The following is my personal insight
on leadership and how I feel we can successfully guide our Soldiers: 1) Understand a. No one

This will help us understand the areas in which we can assist them in becoming a proficient Soldier.
2) Communication a. Clearly defining expectations is of paramount importance. One method that
can be used is counseling Soldiers as this gives leaders the opportunity, not only to communicate
your expectations, but also to know each Soldier as an individual. Communicating with all Soldiers
gives them the opportunity to participate and prepare for what's to come. A well informed Soldier
will be able to prepare themselves physically and mentally to perform their duties to the best of their
abilities. 3) Teamwork a. Army leaders always work as a team with their Soldiers. No single person
is more important than the other. Leaders must instill in Soldiers that each individual task, whether it
be small or large, will contribute an essential component toward accomplishing a greater mission.
Furthermore, leaders must lead by example, and at times, it means that one must take a hands– on
approach when a task is not being performed to standard. Demonstrating how to accomplish a task
is far better than simply telling a Solider how to do something. Telling them to do something will

Essay On Profession Of Arms
Human resource Sergeants responsibility for profession of arms is one of the most important values
we have. To better understand the importance of the profession of arms; I will explain the meaning
of profession of arms. The profession includes key factors which are expertise, trust, development,
values, and service. Each factor is what makes profession of arms attainable. One way to excel at the
profession of arms is to do what is best for the United States. We serve the people of the United
States and we are implementing services that we are trained and ready to provide them. Some of
which include protecting the United States and its allies from terrorists to national disasters. We are
there for them and we will support their decisions. The trust factor; not only must we look out for
the interest of the United States but earn their trust as well. Trust is not easily given and we have to
put in the effort to demonstrate that we are there for them.
Development factor involves training and education. Professionals are knowledgeable in their career

The Importance of Meeting Deadlines The United States Army is described by Encyclopedia
Britannica as the major branch charged with preserving peace, security and defense of the country.
Furnishing majority of the entire U.S. military organization's ground forces, it is also tasked with
partly military or non–military functions or such as the administration of federal programs that
protect and develop the environment; provision of military assistance to the federal, as well as state

When the particular task has broad importance, the entire Army will be forced to adjust its schedules
as well, resulting to inefficient and costlier operations. For particularly critical missions, the peace or
security, or interests of the entire nation becomes compromised. When not meeting deadlines occurs
more than once, and worse, becomes a habit, damage to the unit and the Army becomes dangerous.
Just one Army unit becoming habitually inefficient becomes a liability. The operations of the other
units and the whole U.S. Army become adversely affected. When the Army of the greatest military
force in the world fails to perform its tasks and responsibilities successfully or inefficiently, the
superpower status of the USA would be imperiled, and subsequently, the security of the country
would be placed in terrible danger. Strictly meeting deadlines may not be crucial to certain
organizations as their functions may present a certain window of flexibility wherein time
adjustments or rescheduling may be possible. Other entities such as news organizations may depend
on strictly meeting deadlines for write–up submissions, but the lives of people are not necessarily
endangered by late articles or results. In military organizations such as the Army, time discipline in
unit missions is often critical in terms of saving friendly lives or the

Taking Care of Soldiers Essay
Taking care of Soldiers Your key challenge in a leadership position is taking care of the Soldiers
entrusted to your care. Soldiers are our nation's most important military asset. The Leader who sends
the message that Soldiers don't really matter will generally not be as successful in the long–run as
the Leader who is genuinely serious about taking care of his/her Soldiers. Soldiers want to know
they will be taken care of. The Army Values and attributes of LDRSHIP are taught by Drill

Leaders should want to take care of Soldiers, and conversely, Soldiers should want to take care of
their Leaders. This care extends to understanding what Solders are facing at their civilian job and at
their homes. Ultimately, this Soldier care will result in better performance of the unit, and the
satisfaction of a job well done. Taking care of Soldiers is one of the fundamental responsibilities of
Leadership. It requires deliberate and intentional effort, and sometimes the efforts will seem like
they are for nothing. That is not a reason to stop doing it. The return on investment of your time and
money in taking care of Soldiers is very high. Some of this return is quantifiable, as in high unit
retention rates and higher overall training numbers. Some of it is not as quantifiable as in high unit
esprit–de–corps. It is easy to write off problematic Soldiers, but it far too difficult to replace them.
Leaders should work on creating an environment where Soldiers want to stay, and where Soldiers
want to make a positive contribution to the unit. Remember what works and keep doing it. The
bottom line is that taking care of Soldiers is about setting a standard, and helping Soldiers achieve
that standard. ""A man does not have himself killed for a half–pence a day or for a petty distinction.

Belonging Of A Sisterhood Of Arms
Belonging to a Sisterhood of Arms
Despite having been involved in the military since the American Revolution, women are most often
overlooked as being a soldier. While many people think it is respectful to go up and thank a person
for their service and duties in the military, most often they insult women by not acknowledging them
as a soldier, because society still sees military personnel as a male based society. There is a fallacy
to this stigma.
Almost anyone can point out a man who is in the service, whether or not he is in uniform. Although
it may not be easy to tell that I was a soldier in one point in time. The main reason is, is because I
am a woman. There are not many physical attributes for a female that gives any tell tale signs like a
person would see with a male member with his high and thigh hair cut and freshly shaven face. The
only sure way to know that I was a soldier is if I had said so, or if I was seen wearing one of my
uniforms with my hair tied neatly in a low bun; however when I am in my civys (military term for
civilian clothes), it's almost impossible to tell unless one is very observant in human behaviors.
Another way to tell how a woman may be a military member is how we talk; we usually use military
jargon such as "female/male", using the NATO alphabet, "FUBAR (F*** Up Beyond All
Recognition)", and many others we may find reasons to use in our civilian lives but can only find a
military term to express how we feel about it.
Another way we can be

All organizations should have a form of biblical leadership within its structure. The United States

The first phase would involve the organization as a whole understanding the changes that are going

the organization. The Army National Guard must be willing to train their weekend warriors on the
new cultural environment that would ensue after implementing the new plan. It will be hard to

inconsistent application of Army standards leads to unethical decisions on a daily basis. Despite an
emphasis on Army values at all levels, military leaders open themselves up to make unethical
decisions when they don't adhere to set standards. Despite the Army having clear standards on

The first example that comes to mind is the measuring techniques that are spelled out in AR 600–9
that determine a Soldier's body fat. I have been in the Army for twenty–one years and have been
subject to the tape test my entire career; I can tell you that measurement methods have been
inconsistent at best. Sometimes, there are the appropriate numbers of people doing the taping, but
often times there is just one person doing the taping. Sometimes, the person doing the taping
measures the Soldier correctly and other times the person may tape in such a way as to give the
Soldier an advantage. As far as the grading of the APFT goes, although FM 21–20 specifies the
correct way to do a push–up or sit–up, the actual scoring for these events are wildly inconsistent
from grader to grader. Sometimes these inconsistencies hurt a Soldiers score, but often these
inconsistencies give an unfair advantage to a Soldier over his or her peers. The inconsistencies in
grading the APFT and measuring a Soldier's body fat are magnified by those leaders who don't even
bother and just "pencil whip" the results of both. What a unit or leader does or does not do to
Soldiers who fail the APFT or do not meet the standards of AR 600–9 is where possible ethical
dilemmas arise. I was the height/weight NCO for a company for almost four years, and we never

The Strength Of The American Army
Every person has a set of values that they live by and what they fall back on to make decisions in
their every day life. The United States Army has a set of core values that every soldier whether
enlisted or officer alike has instilled in them at the begging of their career and follows them through
out the rest of their life. The Seven core values, Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor,
Integrity and Personal courage also know by the acronym LDRSHIP is what every soldier lives by
and makes daily life decisions based off of them. The effectiveness of the American Army is
because these values are at the heart of the soldier and allows him to fight in any operation. The first
of the seven Core Army Values is loyalty. Loyalty, according to the army, is bearing true faith and
allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, the Army, your unit, and other soldiers a like. Loyalty is
necessary when deploying over seas. A loyal soldier is an effective soldier. It means that he puts
aside his personal life and is motivated to the cause at hand. This is why loyalty makes and unit
more effective. It is what brings soldiers together, because if they know that they can rely on the
man next to him then they can accomplish any mission no matter how difficult. If loyalty is not
present in a unit then they can't be mission ready and won't be effective in the field. The second of
the core values is duty. Duty is more than that of doing your single job it is making sure that
everyone on

Army Leadership Analysis

  • 1. Army Leadership Analysis The Foundation of Army Leadership is not just about the Army. Leadership as a whole, in all aspects of life, is an essential tool. Creating a leader takes great patience, a difficult art form to master. Not everyone in charge is a leader, and not every leader is in charge. Foundations of Army leadership is a topic every soldier should know. "The day the soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership." This quote from Colin Powell is powerful and it makes you reflect the fundamental responsibility as a leader. Two basic responsibilities for an NCO is the accomplishment of the mission, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often times we see that individual who maintains his/her military bearing. The soldier who is physically and mentally resilient, displaying discipline but lacks the knowledge needed to be a leader. This is where competencies come in. Someone who can lead, develop and achieve. Leading others require immediately building trust. Trust comes with leading by example; proper communication and being a steward of his/her own profession. Developing soldiers by creating a positive environment is key to foster an esprit de corps. A leader, who follows what the foundations of leadership is, will achieve the tasks. The Army is turning 243 years old on June 14 this year, meaning its inception was June 14, 1775. The foundation of Army leadership dates back well before rules and regulations of today. The George Washington's, Abraham Lincoln's and the Colin Powell's, wherever you see a leader, they have exemplified the meaning. Lived the Army values, had the core competencies and attributes to be great. That is 243 years of excellence. That is 243 years of being the best. With all the years past, it falls back to one particular of why and how. The Foundations of Army Leadership is what we all should strive to learn, know and never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Seven Army Values Essay An event that occurred in my life that will help me succeed at Colorado Christian University is the day I joined the U.S. Army. This event means more than anything to me because it's something that not very many people do that I did and got the courage to do. So far the Army has taught me many techniques and ways to be successful in everything you do. From personal courage, discipline, and integrity you learn that you can do anything you want by just pushing yourself and finding deep within what it is your dreams and lifelong goals are. To begin with, college has always been one of those things that I have wanted and just needed to do. I was unsure for the longest of how, what, or when it would happen but I knew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Loyalty; to be loyal to what you do. Being loyal to my school work and being persistent in any assignment that I have. Duty means to put the mission first; get whatever it is that you need done and keep moving forward in all tasks. Respect falls under everything that we do. You have to have respect for yourself; for your peers; and for those that are trying to lead you and teach you. Selfless Service; putting others before yourself. This one really means a lot to me in many ways but the most important is that every day we wake you have to have that thought of what it is were going to do today to help others. And as for professors; teachers; preachers; firefighters, etc. Everyone waking to put others before themselves to help people learn or to maybe just save a life that day. Every person has selfless service to be able to do whatever it is that they may do. Honor; to honor those before you, with you, and after you. For all that they do. Honoring the man or woman that takes there time to better you. Integrity; being honest, faithful, committed, and staying true to what it is you're fighting for. Lastly, Personal Courage; taking the initiative to do the unthinkable. To be able to stand up in front of a group or a class and spread with others your thoughts, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. United States Military Profession The Case for the Military Profession Merriam–Webster defines a profession as, "a type of job that requires special education, training or skill." If one proposes the idea that a person serving in the United States Military is not a profession, it shows that he or she does not understand the scope of what is expected and required of an American Soldier today. In fact, one can argue that in the past decade American Soldiers have been expected to be more professional than they ever have been before. The United States Army is considered a profession not only by virtue of their predetermined skill sets and their pursuit of higher learning, but also the values by which they must abide by on a daily basis. At the end of every training exercise, an After Action Report (AAR) is conducted. Even though the exercise has ended, this informal learning is codified in the AAR. This forum acts as an interface from the lowest to the highest ranking Soldier within the organization. Not only does the Army require these informal training events, but formal training curriculum is provided as well. One example of this formal training is the Master Gunner Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. The Army recognized a need for a professional at the Battalion level to ensure that proper procedures are being conducted on all mobile weapon systems the United States Army employs. At any Master Gunner Course, a Soldier will be expected to learn every technical detail of any given the vehicle and its accompanying weapon system. This training ensures that the newly graduated Master Gunner unit is a subject matter expert. The Purpose Legacy Leaders "Leader of Influence" – MSG Smith The purpose of this paper is to discuss a Legacy Leader from whom I received either negative or positive influence from. For this paper, I have chosen a leader who left a significant negative impact on me, thus providing for me examples of what not to be as a leader. It was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina that I came face to face with one of the worst examples of leadership and negative role models I have encountered in my 14+ year Army career. The impact and impressions that MSG Smith left on me have been burned in my memory ever since. I was shown an example of how not to conduct myself when in positions of authority over others. She projected an image of her being the only person who could understand the situation or properly execute assigned tasks. These actions were directly contrary to the Army Value of Respect. She showed zero respect for others and their contributions to the unit overall. I have observed her use such insulting language to female Soldiers that it brought them to tears. Never once under MSG Smith's leadership did I feel respected or appreciated. I would go home each day and vent to my wife about how miserable my working environment was. On one particular occasion, I came around the corner of the Battalion Operations office, and walked–in on her talking negatively about me. This was one of my most hurtful moments in the unit, to observe her denigrating me to my superiors. Integrity is a value that I place high importance in. Integrity is the ability to do what's right when no one is watching. This is another Army Value that MSG Smith failed to exhibit or possess. During this period of time I was working in the Battalion S3 Operations section. On numerous occasions, I observed CPT Jones tell her what he needed done or give her specific orders. In the US army we are taught to live by the Seven Army Values. They are broken down to us in the acronym "LDRSHIP". Loyalty "Bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S. constitution, the Army, and other soldiers. " Duty " Fulfill you obligations. " Respect " Treat people as they should be treated . " Selfless Service " Put the welfare of the nation, the Army and your subordinates above your own. " Honor " Live up to the army values." Integrity "Do what is right legally and morally. Either way, lying is not appropriate, even if it was unintentional, and the liar should apologize appropriately when they are caught in a lie. When a person resorts to lying to others they are only lying to themselves. A person that is dishonest once will usually lie again and again and many professions have developed reputations as having a great majority of liars in their field, which has led to issues of public trust, even with those that are truthful and honest. So why do people choose to tell lies? A lie usually starts out as innocent in nature but must be covered with a larger more complex lie and then another and soon the lies build up to a point that the person no longer knows the difference between what is true and what is a lie. Telling lies always leads to deceit; lack of trust, losing respect and in many cases the loss of a career. In the military, a non–commissioned officer, or an NCO, is an enlisted member of an armed force who has been given authority by a commissioned officer, typically a sergeant or corporal. Being a private, they are of higher rank and deserve a higher amount of respect. While lying to anyone is unacceptable, lying to a person of higher rank, like an NCO, is even less acceptable. Not only does it give off the impression that the person of lesser rank does not respect his elders, but it also degrades the private's trustworthiness. Trust is everything. ... • 6. My Personal Guideline For Success Essay I am instructed to write a two thousand five hundred word essay on all seven army values. All the army values are important to me and are my personal guideline for success. The army values enlighten me as a soldier, and are used as a great training method for the United States Army as whole. In the army it is a sin not to be able to know and recite these seven values for then you, your dedication, and stature as a United States soldier would be compromised. Throughout this RBI there will be great understanding, and knowledge on the seven values along with my diverse example, and opinion in all aspects on the topic at hand. I as a writer hope you the reader understand all the army values put forth in this essay. All of the army values play a key role in a soldier's stature. I believe personally that without the values being implemented by each and every soldier the army would not be where it is today. The Army Values are Leadership, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. These seven values are also used in an acronym (LDRSHIP) I personally believe for training purposes. The first letter in the acronym is loyalty which by army definition means to bear true faith and allegiance to the United States constitution, the army, your unit, and other soldiers. That being said United States

GEN Martin E. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the Army's professionalization, there have been ebbs and flows in the degree to which the Army has manifested the nature and motivations of a profession rather than its other organizational character of government occupation – highly professional in periods of expansion and later phases of war and less so in periods of contraction after wars, e.g. post–WWII into Korea and post– Vietnam. Even after the establishment of an all–volunteer force in 1971 and the rebuilding of the Army NCO Corps post–Vietnam, these ebbs and flow have continued. The Army in Desert Shield– Desert Storm was highly professional; the Army after the next decade of build–down and the exodus of captains and other leaders and talent in the late 1990s was arguably much less so. A recent report suggests that the operating forces of the Army, after nine years of war in the Middle East, exhibit more clearly the traits and character of a profession, comparatively, to force–generating side of the Army. So, as described above as a producing organization, the Army really has a dual nature–that of a government occupation structured as a hierarchical bureaucracy and that of a vocational, specifically military, profession. A credible leader is able to accomplish this goal by providing inspiration and confidence in others, which allows them to fulfill the objectives of their mission and organization. Thus, in helping others to fulfill the goals of an individual mission, a leader is really helping his subordinates to fulfill their own personal career goals and develop themselves professionally. The military chain of command plays an integral role in the type of leadership advocated within the United States Armed Forces as explained in Army Doctrine ADRP 6–22. This chain of command provides clear distinctions between superiors and their subordinates, and allows for a clear conception of what sort of obligations the latter has to the former. Still, superiors are obligated by the armed forces to exemplify qualities that allow them to inspire the confidence and the respect of their followers. The term leaderships is defined as "the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and improve the organization (ADP 6–22, 2012, p. 1–1). The Leader who sends the message that Soldiers don't really matter will generally not be as successful in the long–run as the Leader who is genuinely serious about taking care of his/her Soldiers. Soldiers want to know they will be taken care of. The Army Values and attributes of LDRSHIP are taught by Drill Sergeants to all our Soldiers. These values should be reinforced at every training event. The LDRSHIP training is based on core American Values. These values say those at the top look out for those at the bottom. Using this same basic American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leaders should want to take care of Soldiers, and conversely, Soldiers should want to take care of their Leaders. This care extends to understanding what Solders are facing at their civilian job and at their homes. Ultimately, this Soldier care will result in better performance of the unit, and the satisfaction of a job well done. Taking care of Soldiers is one of the fundamental responsibilities of Leadership. It requires deliberate and intentional effort, and sometimes the efforts will seem like they are for nothing. That is not a reason to stop doing it. The return on investment of your time and money in taking care of Soldiers is very high. Some of this return is quantifiable, as in high unit retention rates and higher overall training numbers. Some of it is not as quantifiable as in high unit esprit–de–corps. It is easy to write off problematic Soldiers, but it far too difficult to replace them. Leaders should work on creating an environment where Soldiers want to stay, and where Soldiers want to make a positive contribution to the unit. Remember what works and keep doing it. The bottom line is that taking care of Soldiers is about setting a standard, and helping Soldiers achieve that standard. • 32. Belonging Of A Sisterhood Of Arms Belonging to a Sisterhood of Arms Despite having been involved in the military since the American Revolution, women are most often overlooked as being a soldier. While many people think it is respectful to go up and thank a person for their service and duties in the military, most often they insult women by not acknowledging them as a soldier, because society still sees military personnel as a male based society. There is a fallacy to this stigma. Almost anyone can point out a man who is in the service, whether or not he is in uniform. Although it may not be easy to tell that I was a soldier in one point in time. The main reason is, is because I am a woman. There are not many physical attributes for a female that gives any tell tale signs like a person would see with a male member with his high and thigh hair cut and freshly shaven face. The only sure way to know that I was a soldier is if I had said so, or if I was seen wearing one of my uniforms with my hair tied neatly in a low bun; however when I am in my civys (military term for civilian clothes), it's almost impossible to tell unless one is very observant in human behaviors. Another way to tell how a woman may be a military member is how we talk; we usually use military jargon such as "female/male", using the NATO alphabet, "FUBAR (F*** Up Beyond All Recognition)", and many others we may find reasons to use in our civilian lives but can only find a military term to express how we feel about it. • 33. Army Core Values All organizations should have a form of biblical leadership within its structure. The United States Army sets the standard and is considered one of the best organizations that produce quality leaders time after time. They do this by establishing, believing and living their essential core values. The core values are set in stone and followed by every member of the organization, no matter the rank or status they have inside the organization. There are eight core values that include: 1) Loyalty 2) Loyalty 3) Duty, 4) Respect 5) Selfless–Service 6) Honor 7) Integrity 8) Personal Courage. The first phase would involve the organization as a whole understanding the changes that are going to take place. The second phase would require leaders to understand and implement the change for the organization. The Army National Guard must be willing to train their weekend warriors on the new cultural environment that would ensue after implementing the new plan. Essay about Army Standards and Ethical Dilemmas Army Standards and Ethical Dilemmas MSG Garrison, John O., 19Z United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 62 SGM Kelvin Hinkle December 8, 2011 Unclassified Abstract The inconsistent application of Army standards leads to unethical decisions on a daily basis. Despite an emphasis on Army values at all levels, military leaders open themselves up to make unethical decisions when they don't adhere to set standards. Despite the Army having clear standards on height/weight, APFT, the tattoo policy, and reporting requirements, leaders often take it upon themselves to ignore the standard or create their own. Leaders have the responsibility to maintain and enforce standards which are driven by regulations. If military leaders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first example that comes to mind is the measuring techniques that are spelled out in AR 600–9 that determine a Soldier's body fat. I have been in the Army for twenty–one years and have been subject to the tape test my entire career; I can tell you that measurement methods have been inconsistent at best. Sometimes, there are the appropriate numbers of people doing the taping, but often times there is just one person doing the taping. Sometimes, the person doing the taping measures the Soldier correctly and other times the person may tape in such a way as to give the Soldier an advantage. As far as the grading of the APFT goes, although FM 21–20 specifies the correct way to do a push–up or sit–up, the actual scoring for these events are wildly inconsistent from grader to grader. Sometimes these inconsistencies hurt a Soldiers score, but often these inconsistencies give an unfair advantage to a Soldier over his or her peers. The inconsistencies in grading the APFT and measuring a Soldier's body fat are magnified by those leaders who don't even bother and just "pencil whip" the results of both. What a unit or leader does or does not do to Soldiers who fail the APFT or do not meet the standards of AR 600–9 is where possible ethical dilemmas arise. Narcissistic leaders are so caught up in their own needs and wants that they neglect those in both the organizations and those others that work there. Conclusion This paper has looked at two different types of leadership styles and the traits that encompass those styles. One is like night and the other like day they are the opposite of each other in most every way. One of the ways that they do share a similarity is that given the circumstances both can in their own way be effective. Question is though can they both be sustainable for the long term. • 40. The Strength Of The American Army Every person has a set of values that they live by and what they fall back on to make decisions in their every day life. The United States Army has a set of core values that every soldier whether enlisted or officer alike has instilled in them at the begging of their career and follows them through out the rest of their life. The Seven core values, Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal courage also know by the acronym LDRSHIP is what every soldier lives by and makes daily life decisions based off of them. The effectiveness of the American Army is because these values are at the heart of the soldier and allows him to fight in any operation. The first of the seven Core Army Values is loyalty. Loyalty, according to the army, is bearing true faith and allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, the Army, your unit, and other soldiers a like. Loyalty is necessary when deploying over seas. A loyal soldier is an effective soldier. It means that he puts aside his personal life and is motivated to the cause at hand. This is why loyalty makes and unit more effective. It is what brings soldiers together, because if they know that they can rely on the man next to him then they can accomplish any mission no matter how difficult. If loyalty is not present in a unit then they can't be mission ready and won't be effective in the field. The second of the core values is duty.
