2. What are Human Rights?
• Following World War II the UN was formed and one of its
first tasks was to create the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights to help maintain world peace
• The UN represents all countries and so the Rights apply
wherever and whoever you are
• They are international standards that give a legal and
moral framework for democracy
• Can you think of any Rights which you think all humans
should have?
3. What are they?
• Human Rights can be divided into 4 main
categories:
1. Personal rights – dignity and equality
2. Rights of individual in society – privacy,
movement, marriage
3. Public freedom and political rights – freedom of
thought and opinion
4. Economic, cultural and social rights – health,
education, leisure

4. Do all countries respect Human
Rights?
• Unfortunately, many people in many different
countries have experienced a violation of their
human rights
• These violations include genocide, torture,
slavery, rape, enforced sterilization, medical
experimentation, deliberate starvation, war
crimes, slave prostitution and unfair trials

5. What is our Task?
• Our 2 groups are going to be doing a
presentation to the rest of Dover Mini
School at the end of this term
• Our topic is: “Human Rights around the
world; are we all equal?”
6. Are we all equal?
• Unlike the other tutor groups, our focus
will be on COMPARING how well different
parts of the world respect the Declaration
of Human Rights
• Which countries would make for a good
comparison?
7. How will we present our findings?
• We have loads of options for how we present
our findings:
posters
models costumes
story
poems song
Powerpoint
Large annotated speech
collage world map
drama
movie quiz
Video diary leaflet
• Which types of media interest you?
8. Who is going to do what?
• Every single one of the 46 of us will be
involved in creating this presentation over
the course of the next 4-5 weeks
• We therefore need to decide who is going
to do what
9. How will we be successful?
• We will be successful because we are
such quality, talented individuals
• Our presentation will be informative, fun,
engaging and have that extra D9 and D5
touch!
