CrowdCast is the product of a CET (Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology) class at UC Berkeley focusing on Big Data Entrepreneurship. The class was structured in a tournament format, with a round of cuts after every pitch. CrowdCast was one of three finalist teams competing for the grand prize of $1000 for each founding member.
The initial idea for CrowdCast was to create a platform that allowed businesses to forecast the demographic makeup of a pedestrian crowd in a particular area at a specific point in time by pulling social media and traffic data. This was geared towards taxi companies, food trucks and guerrilla marketers, who would all benefit from knowing where large, homogenous crowds tend to congregate at any given time.
After several pitches, and pivots, we refined our business model to become, as one of our instructors put it, "the Google AdWords of the physical space". We positioned ourselves to take full advantage of the upcoming technology in the outdoor advertising space, namely digital billboards. Our technology would allow businesses to join their customers on their daily journey and reach them with targeted communications at the right time, every time. We would also enable smaller businesses to play in the (normally expensive) outdoor advertising game by offering them off peak time slots to advertise for a fraction of the cost of a static billboard.
The CrowdCast Team:
CEO - Shahrukh Ghazali (www.linkedin.com/in/sghazali/)
CMO - Madison Skinner
CTO - Akaljot Cheema
COO - Bonnie Xiao
CDO - Rae Liu
Business Development - Ancy Dow
