Methodology AppsFire  aggregates anonymously the apps data obtained from its iPhone app sharing service This data is based on a  real picture of what is installed and not declarative affirmations  (1 st  time this is done that way) We used  a sample of 1200 users  gathered in July/August 09 Note the natural bias of a new service with an early adopter population The Sample is worldwide with a high concentration in the US (50%), France, UK and Japan.

Average spent per iPhone 80$
Average price of paid app (free apps included) 1.56$
Average price of paid app (free apps excluded) 2.87$

# of unique listed Free Apps (vs paid) 54%
# users who have only free apps 7% (typically less of 20 apps installed)
# of Free installed apps (vs paid) 65%
Some conclusions If we extrapolate  total paid app market is 3.3bn dollars  (mind the biais) – 80$ x (93% of 45m iPhone owners*)  The actual ratio of installed free apps is closer to 50% , meaning more represented than the app store catalog Only 15k+ apps are really installed  (out of 65k+)  * Source admob
