The Application Specialist is responsible for: 1. Installing and maintaining various software licensing tools to ensure applications are available without disruption. 2. Administering software licensing dongles and tools from multiple vendors. 3. Investigating new software releases and communicating with vendors about potential impacts on IT systems.

1. Application Specialist
Reporting to the Service Coordinator Technical Computing & Applications Coordinators, and
supporting all the software packages used by the Exploration, Drilling, Reservoir and Operations
teams:
 Install applications licensing software on licenses servers and make sure that software
licenses are up and running with no disruptions. Install new licenses files when required,
and also produce documentation that allows the control of the various licensing software.
 Administer software licensing dongles, and tools such as Flexlm, in all its flavours,
Schlumberger Licensing tools, CodeMeter, IHS SMT Kingdom licensing tools,
Aspentech’s WlmAdmin SafeNet, Petroleum Experts, Esri licensing tools, Bureau Veritas
RLM, etc.
 Investigate new releases of currently used software and create a line of communication
with software vendors so as to understand new configurations, which might have an
impact on the current IS environment. Produce reports.
 Carry out tests and prepare procedures for software upgrades and installations. Raise
change requests to our internal Change Advisory Board, for upgrades and new
installations. Provide information about: the original requests for such actions, plans for
deployment of software, and any other aspect the CAB might need to be aware of before
allowing any change.
 Once new releases have been tested produce detailed documentation and procedures to
be passed to the Service Desk so as to make them able to install the software on the
users’ workstations. Cooperate with the Service Desk and any other infrastructure group,
for technical matters that are related to software applications.
 Interact with the technical database manager so as to agree in advance for installations of
software which requires the use of databases. Cooperate with the data management
group for technical matters that are related to software applications.
 Understand the basic functionality of each application, to ensure a broad view of the
current applications scenario.
 Help investigate performance issues associated with applications along with the Service
Desk.
 Help implement Business Continuity Plans for critical applications.
 Be proactive and build relationships of trust with the users’ community; provide them with
support whereas that is required and appropriate, with the aim to maximise their
productivity.
 Follow-up on any users’ issues with the software they use, to ensure that problems are
solved in the most efficient and effective way.
 Work in a professional and timely manner, ensuring all queries are responded to with a
high level of satisfaction.
 In administering the software applications, and any other activity, make sure that internal
policies and procedures are followed accordingly.
 Maintain a constant line of communication with the Software Asset Manager to ensure
every action in relation to software applications is approved at a higher level. Keep
him/her/them informed of the current status of the applications, software usage, any
critical issue, and other matters that could imperil the internal use of the company
business software.
 Installing and troubleshooting the most common applications in the industry, such as:
1. Landmark’s Openworks/Decisionspace Desktop, Landmark’s Engineer’s Desktop
(EDM/EDT) & Landmark’s Autosync.
2. Schlumberger’s Petrel, Eclipse, Olga & Pipesim, DrillBench, MudWare and a
general knowledge of ProSource.
3. IHS’s Kingdom, Kongdom Data Management, GeoSyn, Ope$t, EDIN & Que$tor.
4. CGG’s Hampson Russell.
5. Ikon’s RokDoc.
6. Esri’s ArcGIS.

 Understanding main technical aspects of databases such as SQL Express, MySQL, SQL
Enterprise, and Oracle.
 Understanding of Windows technologies, networked domains, TCPIP, software licenses
provided across different networks, Windows OS for desktops and servers. Assist with
Packaging software installations so to make software deployable through SCCM.
Understanding Linux OS environments in relation to software installations and licenses.
 Producing clear and complete documentation about software, software tests, installations,
and licenses management. Produce analysis and reports on the use of software, to
assess whether software is underused, or whether there is a need for more licenses.
 Multi-tasking, and at the same time ability to prioritize conflicting demands effectively
under time constraints.
