This document discusses moving towards an API-centric architecture. It defines APIs as interfaces that allow apps to access backend services and resources. It outlines how apps have evolved from thick clients to thin clients that use APIs to access resources in the cloud. It also discusses how internal and external resources are increasingly being exposed via APIs. Finally, it discusses benefits of a microservices architecture and how organizations can evolve their architectures to be API-first by exposing all services and resources via APIs.
Presentation from the technology track at I Love APIs London 2016 featuring Dhananjay Tripathi, Bupa and Ian Cooper, Thomson Reuters.
Building an API program in a large enterprise requires a new mindset relative to traditional SOA principles. In this session, learn about the required shift in thinking, from orchestration and mediation in ESBs to API-first design approaches, and the need to promote, socialize, monitor, and assess APIs once they are exposed.
Service-oriented architectures were not built to handle the demands of a modern, digital organization. Hear how one large enterprise modernized its distributed SOA by deploying Apigee Edge Public Cloud. The existing infrastructure manages SOAP, XML-based services, and some REST APIs built on an IBM integration stack (including WebSphere and DataPower).

Webcast: API-Centric Architecture for Building Context-Aware AppsApigee | Google Cloud
Context-aware apps - apps that know who you are, where you are, and what you've done - have been all the rage the last few years. Facebook's news feeds, Google Now, and Amazon Recommendations are examples of context-aware applications.
Over the last few years, advancements in machine learning, big data, NoSQL, and API technologies has drastically reduced the complexity of building such apps, but requires a brand new approach system architecture.
This presentation covers:
Lambda architecture and Microservices - two new architectural styles to build contextual apps at scale
How companies like Twitter and Netflix have implemented lambda architecture and microservices for recommendations, targeting, and more
How Apigee uses both new architectures to implement predictive analytics through Insights (our big data predictive analytics product)
Amazon API Gateway is a fully managed service that makes it easy for developers to create, publish, maintain, monitor, and secure APIs at any scale. With a few clicks in the AWS Management Console, you can create an API that acts as a “front door” for applications to access data, business logic, or functionality from your back-end services, such as workloads running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), code running on AWS Lambda, or any Web application. Amazon API Gateway handles all the tasks involved in accepting and processing up to hundreds of thousands of concurrent API calls, including traffic management, authorization and access control, monitoring, and API version management.

Web API or WCF - An Architectural ComparisonAdnan Masood
ASP.NET Web API is a framework that makes it easy to build HTTP services that reach a broad range of clients, including browsers and mobile devices. The new ASP.NET Web API is a continuation of the previous WCF Web API projection. WCF was originally created to enable SOAP-based services and other related bindings. However, for simpler RESTful or RPCish services (think clients like jQuery) ASP.NET Web API is a good choice.
In this meeting we discussed what do you need to understand as an architect to implement your service oriented architecture using WCF or ASP.NET web API. With code samples, we will elaborate on WCF Web API’s transition to ASP.NET Web API and respective constructs such as Service vs. Web API controller, Operation vs. Action, URI templates vs ASP.NET Routing, Message handlers, Formatters and Operation handlers vs Filters, model binders. WebApi offers support for modern HTTP programming model with full support for ASP.NET Routing, content negotiation and custom formatters, model binding and validation, filters, query composition, is easy to unit test and offers improved Inversion of Control (IoC) via DependencyResolver.
You will walk away with a sample set of services that run on Silverlight, Windows Forms, WPF, Windows Phone and ASP.NET.

APIdays Open Banking & Fintech: Workshop - Financial Services Use Cases for APIsJeremy Brown
This was a fairly high level presentation I did at the APIdays Open Banking and Fintech event in London where I started to explore the main drivers for APIs, the mega trends in consumer banking and the various use cases for APIs within Financial Services.
The trends are clear, ProgrammableWeb, an API repository, eclipsed the 17,000-API mark in the first quarter of 2017. Indeed, since 2005, we've seen APIs grow from a curiosity, to a trend, and now to the point where APIs are core to many businesses. APIs provide tremendous value to countless organizations and developers, however, as APIs continue to grow in number and become more heterogeneous, with the use of emerging technologies such as serverless, containers, and the rise of microservices, we're quickly reaching a tipping point at which things could fall down quickly. So, what's an enterprise to do? This presentation looks at how to define the problem, how to define your own API management requirements, the business case, and what technologies are available now to make you successful the first time.
This presentation was given at the Auckland API and Microservices MeetUp, 2016-MAR-03. The connected world is increasingly reaching from the virtual domain into the physical, through the rapid evolution of connected devices. What are the behavior and business patterns that are shaping this convergence? Where are the sources of innovation, what forces are shaping investments and value creation? What is the role of the enterprise? We explore the landscape with an eye for technology gaps and business opportunity.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
