Preventing youth homelessness in rural areas : the case of Northrhine-WestfaliaFEANTSA
The document discusses a project in North Rhine-Westphalia called WohnPerspektiven that aimed to prevent youth homelessness in rural areas. The project found that youth homelessness is invisible in rural areas due to a lack of data. It also found that the support systems in place were overwhelmed and that youth would receive "false help" before getting the right assistance. The project developed approaches like using navigators and case conferences to better link youth to support. It also encouraged dialogue between housing and educational services. While some progress was made, the document notes that prevention networks for youth still lack systematic funding and depend too much on local traditions.

Commonalities and differences in youth homelessness in EuropeFEANTSA
The document discusses youth homelessness in Europe. It reports sharp increases in youth homelessness in several countries like the UK, Denmark, Ireland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. The profile of young homeless people is also changing, with more women in places like France and Sweden, and more mortgage defaults and migrants in other countries. Common pathways into youth homelessness include structural factors like unemployment and limited housing access, as well as relational and health issues. Recommendations include providing more housing options for young homeless people, supported housing solutions before leaving youth care, and adapted employment schemes along with protections against reforms that disproportionately impact at-risk youth.

The document discusses future challenges and strategies for the Schengen area. It notes the economic crisis in the EU has increased unemployment, including among immigrants. It aims to maintain social rights and free movement while addressing issues like integrating immigration policies. Restrictive policies in some states are problematic. The challenges include advancing the EU's legal immigration framework, addressing immigration as a long-term reality, and balancing short and long-term labor market needs against restrictive policies. Public opinion in the EU generally does not see immigration as a top problem either. Net migration is a main driver of EU population growth, with the largest immigrant populations in Germany, Spain, Italy, the UK, and France.

The Unifying Refugee Aid project brought together over 80 participants from more than a dozen NGOs assisting refugees in Central and Eastern Europe. Through workshops, seminars and discussions over two days in Budapest, Hungary, participants shared their experiences assisting refugees in different countries, identified areas for cooperation, and discussed best practices for providing aid and preventing burnout among aid workers. The project aimed to facilitate collaboration between organizations supporting refugees in the region.

- The CCCI-2 comprises four dimensions: participatory attitudes, citizenship values, social justice values, and knowledge and skills for democracy. It was constructed using survey responses from 38 countries.
- The findings show that wealth and stability do not guarantee engaged youth. Newer democracies showed stronger participatory attitudes and citizenship values among youth, though this enthusiasm did not necessarily translate to engaged adulthood. Their Glasgow Housing First program, established in 2011, is one of the first in the UK to house people experiencing homelessness and substance abuse issues. The program takes a flexible, person-centered approach to support, allowing clients to maintain their housing even if continuing substance use, and focusing on harm reduction through peer support workers with lived experience. Evaluation found half of clients experienced positive changes to their substance use through the stability of housing and personalized support.

Why so few youth homeless?
The key-workers that were interviewed (under a general remark “we have no persons around those ages”-16-25 years old) highlighted that administrative records do not allow capturing young people in homeless or social exclusion situations, since the process is usually submitted by identifying the household member responsible for the assistance request, mainly the mothers. This means that only from adult ages, after living the household, that people assume themselves as applicants, especially from 30 years old up “
