Ms. Dittli Culture- 1871
Wilhelm Marr’s The Way to Victory of Germanicism over Judaism increased and rationalized hatred of Jews by portraying them as an inferior race already waging war on Germany.
Written in 1879 Jews dealt in finance industry Jews responsible for stock market crash in 1873 and many other problems Scientific reason to hate Jews Argues for Jewish extermination
Physically different and inferior Coined the term “Semitismus” Anti Semitism Seemed more intellectual than “Judenhass” No chance for assimilation because of physical differences
Argued that Jews began the war: Your generation will not pass before there will be absolutely no public office, even the highest one, which the Jews will not have usurped. The Jews were late in their assault on Germany, but once they started, there was no stopping them.
Referred to anti-Semitism as madness Argued that problems really came from industrial revolution Asked for Jews pardon Wilhelm Marr
Increased hatred of Jews Anti-Semitic works became basis of later genocide Nazis used his work as justification
Marr’s work kindled the existing anti-Jewish sentiment. His work incited the German people against the Jews by depicting them as an enemy and offering pseudo scientific reasons to hate them.
