This document summarizes the results of a remote sensing study of on-road vehicle emissions in the UK. It found that while Euro VI standards have reduced NOx emissions from heavy commercial vehicles, passenger cars still emit high levels of NOx. Diesel cars produced more NOx than petrol cars, and emissions varied between manufacturers. The document recommends implementing more stringent real-driving emissions regulations and testing, improving fuel taxation policies, and promoting sustainable transportation to further reduce vehicle emissions and improve air quality.
- Ferrovial reported double digit revenue and EBITDA growth in the first half of 2015, supported by strong performance across toll roads, airports, construction and services.
- Toll road traffic and revenues increased, supported by various factors including weather, oil prices and economic recovery. The newly opened NTE 1-2 in Texas performed well.
- Heathrow airport traffic was up 1.3% with revenue increasing 6% including a 6.5% rise in aeronautical revenues. UK regional airports also saw increased traffic and revenues.
- Construction revenues grew 17% led by international projects, while services revenues rose 12% due to currency effects and contract wins.

This document discusses the applications and benefits of EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service) for business aviation. It notes that EGNOS improves GPS signal integrity and accuracy, allowing for more precise approaches down to decision heights of 200 feet using Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance (LPV). This expands operational flexibility and accessibility, particularly at airports with fewer than 100 daily departures that previously had only non-precision approaches. EGNOS also enables category 2 and 3 low visibility operations using synthetic and enhanced vision systems. The document outlines additional potential applications like dual slope LPV approaches and shifted thresholds to increase runway capacity and mitigate wake vortex risks.

Norway has been very successful in adopting electric vehicles (EVs), with over 66,000 all-electric cars sold, comprising 17.5% of new car sales in 2015 and 12.5% in 2014. This success is largely attributed to significant economic incentives provided by the Norwegian government since the 1990s, including no purchase taxes, VAT exemption, low annual road taxes, and other perks. A 2015 survey of over 7,000 Norwegian EV owners found that while range anxiety and lack of charging stations were initial concerns, EVs have proven practical even in Norway's cold climate and mountainous terrain, showing other countries that EVs can work as primary vehicles.

A literature review of the current state of western European oil gas pipeline...Nicholas Newman
The document discusses opportunities to develop and reconfigure Europe's oil and gas pipeline and refinery infrastructure to enable non-Russian suppliers. Potential opportunities include increasing transportation capacity through new routes like Poland-Croatia and new entry points like TAP to central and eastern Europe. This would overcome cross-border issues and develop new supply routes for eastern and central Europe alongside new LNG import terminals. The conclusion is that the EU and Russia will remain interdependent, as Europe requires gas from Russia and Russia relies on the European market.

Cyprus hydrocarbons - Energy security for the EU in the pipeline?Harris Samaras
The confirmation of significant quantities of hydrocarbons in Cyprus, (the Levantine Basin, the Nile Delta Cone, the Eratosthenes Continental Block and the Herodotus Basin) may prove to be a tremendous opportunity not only for the island but for the EU as a whole. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that the aforementioned areas hold an estimated 13.8 trillion cubic meters (tcm) of natural gas. Also as per the BEICIP/FRANLAB and the Institut Français du Pétrole, the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone alone holds an estimated 3 tcm of natural gas.
Cyprus, an EU member country, a regional business and financial hub (and an established investment gateway to and from Russia) is firmly on its way to becoming an energy superpower and a guaranteed primary natural gas source and transit route to the EU, of the EU; a hub of reconciliation and regional stability!
This document provides an overview of Snam Group, a European leader in natural gas infrastructure. It discusses Snam's vision, integrated infrastructure network across Europe, management team, and the evolving European natural gas market landscape. The market is expected to become more dependent on imports from outside Europe, requiring further development of infrastructure to transport gas from southern European entry points to consumption areas in northern Europe. Snam aims to efficiently manage gas systems and promote a more integrated European network to support the changing market.
This document discusses the effects of the Ukraine crisis on EU natural gas security and the policies implemented by the EU to address threats to its gas security. It outlines the EU's short-term policies to better integrate gas markets and coordinate infrastructure, as well as its long-term goals to diversify gas supplies and reduce dependence on Russia through alternative suppliers and infrastructure projects. Research methodologies are proposed to analyze changes in EU gas imports, prices, consumption and production over time.
Yara International ASA reported strong third quarter results for 2014, with record deliveries. Margins continued to benefit from lower European natural gas prices. Fertilizer production was robust, though ammonia production decreased at some sites. Overall demand and prices for fertilizers remained healthy. Yara expects further reductions in European gas costs in the coming quarters and recently completed an acquisition that will improve its raw material integration in Brazil.

The port of Dunkirk is initiating a clean fuel initiative in the English Channel to promote the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Key points of the initiative include creating a consortium of LNG stakeholders on the Dover Strait to harmonize regulations for fueling operations and assess retrofitting a large ferry with LNG. The initiative also aims to construct an LNG fueling chain from Dunkirk's LNG terminal to ports to allow truck-to-ship and ship-to-ship fueling. Strengthening the business case for small-scale LNG distribution is needed to fuel trucks and use it in industry, as core ports are also road and inland waterway hubs.

Global Situational Awareness of A.I. and where its headedvikram sood
You can see the future first in San Francisco.
Over the past year, the talk of the town has shifted from $10 billion compute clusters to $100 billion clusters to trillion-dollar clusters. Every six months another zero is added to the boardroom plans. Behind the scenes, there’s a fierce scramble to secure every power contract still available for the rest of the decade, every voltage transformer that can possibly be procured. American big business is gearing up to pour trillions of dollars into a long-unseen mobilization of American industrial might. By the end of the decade, American electricity production will have grown tens of percent; from the shale fields of Pennsylvania to the solar farms of Nevada, hundreds of millions of GPUs will hum.
The AGI race has begun. We are building machines that can think and reason. By 2025/26, these machines will outpace college graduates. By the end of the decade, they will be smarter than you or I; we will have superintelligence, in the true sense of the word. Along the way, national security forces not seen in half a century will be un-leashed, and before long, The Project will be on. If we’re lucky, we’ll be in an all-out race with the CCP; if we’re unlucky, an all-out war.
Everyone is now talking about AI, but few have the faintest glimmer of what is about to hit them. Nvidia analysts still think 2024 might be close to the peak. Mainstream pundits are stuck on the wilful blindness of “it’s just predicting the next word”. They see only hype and business-as-usual; at most they entertain another internet-scale technological change.
Before long, the world will wake up. But right now, there are perhaps a few hundred people, most of them in San Francisco and the AI labs, that have situational awareness. Through whatever peculiar forces of fate, I have found myself amongst them. A few years ago, these people were derided as crazy—but they trusted the trendlines, which allowed them to correctly predict the AI advances of the past few years. Whether these people are also right about the next few years remains to be seen. But these are very smart people—the smartest people I have ever met—and they are the ones building this technology. Perhaps they will be an odd footnote in history, or perhaps they will go down in history like Szilard and Oppenheimer and Teller. If they are seeing the future even close to correctly, we are in for a wild ride.
Let me tell you what we see.
ViewShift: Hassle-free Dynamic Policy Enforcement for Every Data LakeWalaa Eldin Moustafa
Dynamic policy enforcement is becoming an increasingly important topic in today’s world where data privacy and compliance is a top priority for companies, individuals, and regulators alike. In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.
