The posterior tibial tendon helps support the arch of the foot and allows it to function properly. Injury or deterioration of this tendon can lead to adult acquired flatfoot deformity as the arch begins to collapse. Surgical repair or reconstruction of the tendon may be needed in more severe cases to relieve pain and improve foot function.
