This document analyzes why youth in Macedonia were underrepresented in self-employment programs in 2008. It conducted research through questionnaires and focus groups to understand barriers facing youth. The research found that a lack of information was a key reason youth did not apply sufficiently. Youth wanted more information on program goals, how to apply, and follow-up support. The document recommends continuing efforts to improve how information is provided to youth, based on lessons learned from increasing youth participation in 2009 programs. In general, while government employment programs are seen as helpful, better informing youth remains important, particularly about eligibility and application processes.
