A broker associate with Keller Williams Realty in Corona, California, Dan Jey previously served a decade as a California high school science teacher. Outside the professional arena, Dan Jey is an amateur juggler and a member of the South Pasadena Juggling Club. Perhaps due in part to the outsider status of jugglers, there is little historical information on juggling. This has led to significant gaps in the accepted understanding of juggling’s origins and evolution. However, the majority of interested historians trace juggling back to 2000 BC Egypt. The walls of an ancient crypt featured images of jugglers on its wall paintings of entertainers. Archeological evidence of jugging also exists in the classical era of Greece, Rome, China, and Ireland. After surviving the Middle Ages, during which jugglers were actively persecuted, juggling enjoyed a resurgence in the Renaissance of medieval Europe. The word “juggle” comes from “jogelen,” a Middle English word that means to “entertain” or “perform.”
