Abstract
In the past two decades, research on the sociology of diagnosis has attained considerable influence within medical sociology. Analyzing the process and factors that contribute to making a diagnosis amidst uncertainty and contestation, as well as the diagnostic encounter itself, are topics rich for sociological investigation. This paper provides a reformulation of the sociology of diagnosis by proposing the concept of ‘social diagnosis’ which helps us recognize the interplay between larger social structures and individual or community illness manifestations. By outlining a conceptual frame, exploring how social scientists, medical professionals and laypeople contribute to social diagnosis, and providing a case study of how the North American Mohawk Akwesasne reservation dealt with rising obesity prevalence to further illustrate the social diagnosis idea, we embark on developing a cohesive and updated framework for a sociology of diagnosis. This approach is useful not just for sociological research, but has direct implications for the fields of medicine and public health. Approaching diagnosis from this integrated perspective potentially provides a broader context for practitioners and researchers to understand extra-medical factors, which in turn has consequences for patient care and health outcomes.

Sociological analysis of diagnosis has achieved considerable influence in the last two decades, providing important insight into how we understand health, disease, and illness. It has also expanded how we view the social and cultural influences that shape our knowledge and practice on health and illness. This includes studies of diagnosis that have gone beyond the interaction between physician and patient, to take into account the larger social, structural, and temporal forces that shape diagnosis (see, for example, the categorization of homosexuality as a mental disorder and the role of gay rights activists in the American Psychiatric Association’s deliberations) (Cooksey & Brown, 1998).
Recently we have also seen the emergence of diseases whose etiologies, symptoms, and, therefore, diagnoses, are often contested or uncertain. Peer support has a long history dating back to early humans helping each other for survival. In the modern era, peer support for mental health issues emerged in the 1830s and grew out of the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Research shows that peer support programs, in which people with lived experience of mental health or substance abuse issues help others, can be as effective as services from traditional professionals, reduce hospital readmissions and costs, increase empowerment, and establish community support networks. Peer support is now reimbursable by Medicaid in many states and has expanded beyond mental health into areas like substance abuse, criminal justice, youth, and the elderly.

The media plays a large role in influencing social norms and perceptions of health issues. It can contribute to biases by portraying certain behaviors as normal or acceptable and influence people's views of what constitutes a serious health problem. For example, the media often emphasizes thin body images which can lead people to unhealthy dieting or develop eating disorders. Additionally, rare but dramatic events like mass shootings receive disproportionate media coverage compared to leading causes of death like tobacco use. This document discusses how the media shapes social norms and public health perceptions as well as strategies for designing effective health messaging campaigns.

Mexican immigrant women in New Brunswick face barriers to practicing traditional folk health methods since settling in the area. Three main types of barriers were identified: interpersonal barriers with healthcare providers who may not understand folk practices, environmental barriers due to the availability and cost of traditional ingredients, and systemic barriers such as documentation requirements to access services. The study aims to investigate the extent to which these women can continue traditional practices in New Brunswick, and whether those practices conflict with institutional healthcare programs. Focus group interviews have been conducted with 14 Mexican immigrant women so far to understand their health perspectives and experiences.
Culture, Translation, and Genre
This research examines how culture and translation inform the design of health literacy interventions. It analyzes the rhetorical strategies and genres used to modify health information for different social contexts. Data collection includes analyzing genres of health literacy materials and conducting interviews with professionals involved in health interventions and populations targeted by them. The goal is to understand how interventions are adapted for various groups and to catalog the genres of information involved in promoting health literacy.

The Economics of Urban Greening for Human Health

A growing trend in social research concerning illicit drug use has entailed suspending regard for conven-
tional questions such as the etiology of drug problems and the outcomes achieved by assorted interventions in
favor of focusing analytic attention on how drug problems are socially constructed in and through human
praxis. In this paper, I use a constructionist approach to demonstrate and explain endogenous accounts of what I
am calling the ecology of addiction in drug abuse treatment discourse. These accounts posit a space "out there"
marked by its degradation, dirtiness, solitude, and savagery which commonly tempts those who must live there
to also behave amorally, licentiously, and/or savagely I explain these accounts by showing their fundamental
utility in light of specific conceptual puzzles that participants in drug abuse treatment discourse must inevitably
solve. Namely, speaking in terms of this ecology of addiction provides participants with a compelling narrative
means for reconcilzng the following two claims: 1) they are chronically prone to enslavement by their addictions,
and 2) their addictions can be controlled through ongoing participation in a communal project of mutual help
Over the course of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, there emerged a fairly coher-
ent discourse regarding both the clinical characteristics of drug addiction and the appropriate
methods for its treatment (Baumohl and Room 1987; Levine 1978; Schneider 1978). Origi-
nally, medical professionals like Benjamin Rush were prominent among those who claimed
addiction was not so much a moral failing as a medical condition that demanded medical treat-

Health practitioners and the general public play a competitive role in population health prevention and promotion. Health care providers such as nurses and doctors sometimes have multifaceted roles as holistic healthcare providers to promote community health. They can organize public outreach programs and coordinate health education to enlighten the community about well-being. The paper explores specific actions health providers can take regardless of their professional practices to promote community health.
Health Education and Promotion Programs
Health education is an everyday social science used by health providers to promote health behaviors and well-being in the community. Health education initiatives focus on providing essential knowledge and information to the community members and practical skills that enable the public to adopt healthy behaviors (Whitehead, 2018). Health education increases health knowledge and influences the health attitudes of individuals. For instance, nurses can educate the public about the benefits of child immunization in preventing diseases and boosting immunity. Knowledge of immunization can influence individuals who have specific attitudes toward vaccination to seek these services, thus promoting the well-being of children. Health promotion is much broader since it is done by professionals while responding to health developments. It helps address concerns related to health inequities and access within the communities.
Community Assessment and Intervention Planning
Community diagnosis or assessment is an action that health practitioners conduct to identify factors that promote the health of a community and develop strategies to improve them. Health practitioners then design specific goals and programs that help solve particular health concerns identified (Lee et al., 2017). The nurse collaborates with community members to conduct a community assessment and diagnosis processes to help them plan community programs. A nurse must perform a community diagnosis for them to implement a nursing intervention that helps solve the problem. Nurses conduct the diagnosis process to ensure the interventions’ efficiency, promote standardization, and conduct follow-up activities, monitoring, and evaluation while assessing if they have achieved their goals. A nurse can also plan health activities and programs that entail fundamental behavior changes. For example, nurses can coordinate nutritional assessment or diagnosis to prevent concerns of being underweight, malnutrition, or overweight in the community.

Social change initiatives focus on the interaction of humans and the transformation of institutions and functions. Environmental health is both a public health and social justice issue. This paper will describe how environmental health is both a public health and social injustice issue and some of the environmental injustices in the United States. It will also explain the functions of environmental health movements in the US. Finally, the paper will describe some of the intervention opportunities in curbing environmental injustices including health education, advocacy, policy, leadership opportunities, and community focus and give my future leadership role as far as environmental health is concerned.

The topic that I chose is Environmental Health. This topic is a public health issue because the environment in which we live in shapes our health every moment of every day. Our health can be affected by what we eat, where we live, and how we interact with the world around us. That is where environmental health professionals, programs and policies, all come into play. Environmental health is a large field in public health because of the numerous ways exterior factors can impact how we live, grow and, even eat. These factors concern how we address our natural environment like sanitation and clean water, but they are also the consequences of our actions as human beings (Krometis et al, 2017).
Environmental Health is also a social justice issue because all the conversations about protecting habitats, mitigating climate change and recycling are not just about saving and protecting the earth, they are more about the struggle for protecting and providing basic human rights to good health. Every human being is entitled to quality air, clean water, and sanitation (Marmot, 2017).
Section 2: Social Injustice
Two Environmental Social Injustices
One major environmental social injustice is the disproportional placing of dangerous waste amenities in poor and largely ethnic and racial minority localities. Research shows that there are ethnic and racial discrepancies in the locations of dangerous waste across the United States. As a result of these injustices people living in such an environment have developed diseases like cancer.
Another social injustice is the environmental influence on healthy eating, physical activity, and obesity in ethnic and racial minority communities with low income. The principal concern here is the deprivation amplification such that in locations where have little individual resources, the local amenities that help people to live healthily, are poorer than those in non-socially and non-impoverished deprived places. Describe a social theory that was discussed in the “Social Relationships and Health” journal article and indicate how it was used to support the research.
From my understanding of the journal for this week, the social theory was how some ones health can be effected with or with out social relations. From the research it touches on how a person or people can be happy and also live longer with better health, when practicing social relationships. The article discuss how the theory of social relationships can make people stringer and healthier. It was used to support the research because the researchers conducted studies not only on humans but animals as well to prove this theory.
Choose one of the quantitative research results presented in the article; describe the evidence presented and indicate which variables of the experiment were highlighted.
The quantitative research results that I choose from the article was when the researchers were discovering that social relationships can cause a risk factors of mortality, and probably morbidity, from a wide range of diseases. From the readings the researchers shown that they used criteria include strength and consistencies of statistical association across a wide range of studies an cause and effect with animals and humans. An experiment of behavior pattern as an risk factor for (type A) heart disease. 1964 Surgeon general had evidence that social relationship and health increased that cigarette smoking was a cause or risk factor for mortality a range of disease. These factors are important because the researchers seen that there is less association of social relationships when it comes to smoking, because smoking is also linked to cancer.

Although social relationships as independent, overruling, and moderating variables affecting stress, health, or the relationships between them have been widely studied over the past decade, almost no attention has been paid to social relationships as dependent variables ( House, Landis & Umberson, 1988). I believe that modern social media sites support the claims that social variables determine both health and the nature of social relationships, both link social relationship to health. Modern social media is where you can give updates on thoughts and at one point it was some where you can express freedom of speech.
The course text reading discussed how research can also use the transformative paradigm in social theory to impact social change. How does it do this and what types of societal populations can the transformative paradigm specifically impact?

You do not know whether your friend has knowledge that people are using drugs in his house.
Scenario 2: Accepting a Gift
It is the day before Christmas and you are a community police officer. An owner of a small market has been friendly to you throughout the year, and he has participated faithfully in community crime-prevention meetings. He calls you behind the counter and gives you a fruit basket for your family along with a Christmas card containing a $30 gift certificate as an expression of his appreciation.
Scenario 3: Homosexual Partner
You are a supervisor on a medium-size police department. Office Ted Jones is an excellent officer and has been on the force for 16 years. He is also a homosexual and hangs out at a known gay bar in his off time. You have two-person patrols and Jones was recently teamed with Officer James Davis. Officer Davis comes to you and asks to be assigned to another partner because Jones is a homosexual.

A growing trend in social research concerning illicit drug use has entailed suspending regard for conven-
tional questions such as the etiology of drug problems and the outcomes achieved by assorted interventions in
favor of focusing analytic attention on how drug problems are socially constructed in and through human
praxis. In this paper, I use a constructionist approach to demonstrate and explain endogenous accounts of what I
am calling the ecology of addiction in drug abuse treatment discourse. These accounts posit a space "out there"
marked by its degradation, dirtiness, solitude, and savagery which commonly tempts those who must live there
to also behave amorally, licentiously, and/or savagely I explain these accounts by showing their fundamental
utility in light of specific conceptual puzzles that participants in drug abuse treatment discourse must inevitably
solve. Namely, speaking in terms of this ecology of addiction provides participants with a compelling narrative
means for reconcilzng the following two claims: 1) they are chronically prone to enslavement by their addictions,
and 2) their addictions can be controlled through ongoing participation in a communal project of mutual help
Over the course of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, there emerged a fairly coher-
ent discourse regarding both the clinical characteristics of drug addiction and the appropriate
methods for its treatment (Baumohl and Room 1987; Levine 1978; Schneider 1978). Origi-
nally, medical professionals like Benjamin Rush were prominent among those who claimed
addiction was not so much a moral failing as a medical condition that demanded medical treat-

Health Education and Promotion Programs
Health education is an everyday social science used by health providers to promote health behaviors and well-being in the community. Health education initiatives focus on providing essential knowledge and information to the community members and practical skills that enable the public to adopt healthy behaviors (Whitehead, 2018). Health education increases health knowledge and influences the health attitudes of individuals. For instance, nurses can educate the public about the benefits of child immunization in preventing diseases and boosting immunity. Knowledge of immunization can influence individuals who have specific attitudes toward vaccination to seek these services, thus promoting the well-being of children. Health promotion is much broader since it is done by professionals while responding to health developments. It helps address concerns related to health inequities and access within the communities.
Community Assessment and Intervention Planning
Community diagnosis or assessment is an action that health practitioners conduct to identify factors that promote the health of a community and develop strategies to improve them. Health practitioners then design specific goals and programs that help solve particular health concerns identified (Lee et al., 2017). The nurse collaborates with community members to conduct a community assessment and diagnosis processes to help them plan community programs. A nurse must perform a community diagnosis for them to implement a nursing intervention that helps solve the problem. Nurses conduct the diagnosis process to ensure the interventions’ efficiency, promote standardization, and conduct follow-up activities, monitoring, and evaluation while assessing if they have achieved their goals. A nurse can also plan health activities and programs that entail fundamental behavior changes. For example, nurses can coordinate nutritional assessment or diagnosis to prevent concerns of being underweight, malnutrition, or overweight in the community.

The topic that I chose is Environmental Health. This topic is a public health issue because the environment in which we live in shapes our health every moment of every day. Our health can be affected by what we eat, where we live, and how we interact with the world around us. That is where environmental health professionals, programs and policies, all come into play. Environmental health is a large field in public health because of the numerous ways exterior factors can impact how we live, grow and, even eat. These factors concern how we address our natural environment like sanitation and clean water, but they are also the consequences of our actions as human beings (Krometis et al, 2017).
Environmental Health is also a social justice issue because all the conversations about protecting habitats, mitigating climate change and recycling are not just about saving and protecting the earth, they are more about the struggle for protecting and providing basic human rights to good health. Every human being is entitled to quality air, clean water, and sanitation (Marmot, 2017).

Two Environmental Social Injustices
One major environmental social injustice is the disproportional placing of dangerous waste amenities in poor and largely ethnic and racial minority localities. Research shows that there are ethnic and racial discrepancies in the locations of dangerous waste across the United States. As a result of these injustices people living in such an environment have developed diseases like cancer.
Another social injustice is the environmental influence on healthy eating, physical activity, and obesity in ethnic and racial minority communities with low income. The principal concern here is the deprivation amplification such that in locations where have little individual resources, the local amenities that help people to live healthily, are poorer than those in non-socially and non-impoverished deprived places. Describe a social theory that was discussed in the “Social Relationships and Health” journal article and indicate how it was used to support the research.
From my understanding of the journal for this week, the social theory was how some ones health can be effected with or with out social relations. From the research it touches on how a person or people can be happy and also live longer with better health, when practicing social relationships. The article discuss how the theory of social relationships can make people stringer and healthier. It was used to support the research because the researchers conducted studies not only on humans but animals as well to prove this theory.

The quantitative research results that I choose from the article was when the researchers were discovering that social relationships can cause a risk factors of mortality, and probably morbidity, from a wide range of diseases. From the readings the researchers shown that they used criteria include strength and consistencies of statistical association across a wide range of studies an cause and effect with animals and humans. An experiment of behavior pattern as an risk factor for (type A) heart disease. 1964 Surgeon general had evidence that social relationship and health increased that cigarette smoking was a cause or risk factor for mortality a range of disease. These factors are important because the researchers seen that there is less association of social relationships when it comes to smoking, because smoking is also linked to cancer.

Although social relationships as independent, overruling, and moderating variables affecting stress, health, or the relationships between them have been widely studied over the past decade, almost no attention has been paid to social relationships as dependent variables ( House, Landis & Umberson, 1988). I believe that modern social media sites support the claims that social variables determine both health and the nature of social relationships, both link social relationship to health. Modern social media is where you can give updates on thoughts and at one point it was some where you can express freedom of speech.

EXPECTANCY THEORY
One widely cited theory of motivation is Victor Vroom’s (

) Expectancy Theory (also referred to as the VIE Theory). Abstract
Bloodstream infections refer to the infections that occur in the healthcare facilities and they are the new infections that are acquired within the facility. These infections lead to hospitalization, morbidity, and mortality in hemodialysis patients. There are about 30,100 reported incidences of infections in the United States. The bloodstream infections are caused by the equipment being used by the healthcare providers for example the surgical equipment, the environment of the facility, and the healthcare workers or patients who transmit such infection to the other. Part I:
For this Assignment, you will compose a quest narrative from your life. You may write this as a letter to another person considering the same quest. You will aim to tell them your story and call them to action as well.
This narrative may be about your return to acquire your degree, about a decision to change your life, to pursue a relationship or career, or to reinvent yourself. The narrative will likely include the highs and the lows of that quest along with insight into why you kept moving toward your goal.
Instead of a letter, you could write the narrative as a poem, a dialogue, or a work of creative fiction. However, the work must be an original composition for the Assignment, related to your own experience and offering a call to action toward a reader.
You should employ at least two of the concepts from the assigned reading on literature, such as a metaphor, image, or symbol.
The narrative must be at least 1 page, but can be longer.
Part II:
In at least 500 words, explain how you used the concepts of literature in creating your narrative. Use and cite the text to explain what the concept was, and then tell how you interpreted and used this concept in your narrative.
Clarify for the reader how you demonstrated leadership in your call to action for the reader. How did you communicate your vision, and what techniques did you use to persuade them?
Reflect on telling the story. Was it a difficult process? What helped you to get inspired, and what made you tell this particular story?

Obesity and Weight Management Programs
Introduction to the Problem
The problem under investigation in this research is the issue of obesity and weight management. This topic was selected because it the issues is affecting many people today around the world and most significantly in the United States. Thousands of people worldwide are dying from obesity and overweight related illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure among many others (Obesity & weight control: Health risks, weight loss & bariatric surgery, n.d.). Therefore, it has a huge impact on the healthcare system since it has increased the problems that healthcare professionals and facilities are facing. Hospitals are now congested mainly due to diet related illnesses, obesity being at the top of the list, which causes short staffing due to the increasing patients numbers relative to providers’ numbers. The providers, especially nurses, may then suffer from burnout and thus affecting the quality of care that they provide. Several weight management programs have then been created in order to tackle the serious problem of obesity. Therefore, conducting a proper research on obesity and weight management programs is very crucial since it will help in providing in-depth understanding of the whole issue and thus useful in developing and implementing ways that can curb the problem by proper implementation of these programs. This will improve the conditions of healthcare facilities and eventually the quality of care provided.
The Problem
The problem is obesity and weight management programs. Obesity is a medical condition that occurs when an individual has excess body fat or weight that might have some significant effect on his or her health (Hu, 2008). On the other hand, weight management is the process of embracing long-term lifestyle modification to keep a healthy body weight on depending on the age, gender, and height of an individual. They include methods such as eating heathy food and increasing the levels of physical activity. Weight management programs are then the initiatives that are created in controlling the weight of individuals in order to control such conditions as obesity. Managing one’s weight through these programs is very important part of their health because they avoid being overweight and obese to reduce the risks of medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and stroke. The intake of diet considered unhealthy, lack of physical exercise and practicing unhealthy lifestyles such as too much intake of alcohol, smoking may lead to increase in weight, and thus a person is considered overweight. This is when the body contains too much body fat above the required amount. Obesity then occurs after being overweight when the calorie intake of a person goes higher than the amount of energy that .

The headache centers above and behind her eyes, throbs, and is not relieved by any over-the-counter medications. She says that they get worse when exams are near and she spends time in the library to study. She is worried that the headaches will cause her to fail graduate school.

Environmental influences refer to external factors that impact an organization's marketing decisions involving pricing. Having a pricing goal is not sufficient; an organization must consider many other factors before setting its product prices. Customers are a crucial consideration when making a pricing decision. The three vital elements for consideration about customers are whether they feel that the product provides value, how sensitive the buyers are to prices changes, the number of buyers available. The company needs to collect market size data and try to identify how sensitive customers are on price. The product's price should match the buyers' perception of the value they are likely to get from the product (Zhou, 2019). The number of buyers able and willing to buy the product, determine the demand of the product, and due to forces of demand and supply, it influences the product price. When the demand is high, the company can set relatively high prices.
The way competitors sell and price their products has a great impact on the pricing decision of a company. If a customer wants to buy a pair of sneakers from Gucci Company, but the price 20% less in another competing company, the customer is more likely to buy the product from the competitor. Companies should consider matching their prices to that of the competitors to establish and maintain their loyal clients to avoid this problem, which may cost the company its market share. When the competition is too high, the company may also consider giving an extra discount if the customers feel the prices may be better somewhere else. The presence of substitute commodities impacts the pricing decision of a company as well (Kim, 2019) If the prices of certain products become too high, the customers may look for a substitute that solves the same problem. High completion also means and the company should invest more in advertising.
The economic forces impact the product pricing decision. The economic environment factors like unemployment levels and interest rates impact the price. When the level of unemployment is very high, many people will have lower bargaining power due to low income, which results in reduced demand for the product, the lower the demand, the lower the price. When interest rates are very high, the company is likely to increase the prices of a product to compensate for the interests. The rate of currency exchange in the international market also influences the product pricing.
