AMSTI The Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) is the Alabama Department of Education’s initiative to improve math and science teaching statewide. 
Mission Its mission is to provide  all  students in Grades K-12 with the knowledge and skills needed for success in the workforce and/or postsecondary studies .
Goal The  goal  of AMSTI is to provide well-trained teachers and the equipment, materials, and resources needed for hands-on, activity-based math and science education. With AMSTI’s support, students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in post-secondary studies and in the work force.
History 2009: Superintendent recognizes need students aren't being properly prepared for workforce committee is formed
2000: Board of Education adopts recommendations 2001: Request for Proposals sent, but withdrawn due to lack of funding 2002-03: 2 grant proposals sent and refused for funding 2002: NASA gives a grant and UAH is chosen as the first host location.
2002-03: Funding from US Dept of Education allows for more sites to be established 2005 Funding outlook bleak until Gov Riley proposes support in budget Riley gets budget award of 15 million for AMSTI in the 2006 fiscal year
