This report summarizes the work and goals of the Authority for the Sustainable Management of the Lake Amatitlán Basin (AMSA) in Guatemala. AMSA was established in 1996 to restore Lake Amatitlán and its watershed, which have become highly polluted from industrial and agricultural waste, as well as untreated sewage. The report assesses AMSA's divisions related to environmental monitoring, wastewater treatment, and education. It provides observations of AMSA's current projects and challenges, and includes recommendations from interns to help AMSA achieve its mission of improving water quality in the lake.
