 Architectural Barriers Act
 The Rehabilitation Act of 1973
 The Fair Housing Act of 1988
 The Americans with Disabilities Act
 State and Local Building Codes
These are just several of the many
Federal, State and local accessibility laws
and building codes requiring newly
constructed or altered commercial and
residential buildings to be accessible to
and usable by people with disabilities.
Anything can happen during construction;
counters installed too high, water closet
centerlines off by an inch. Each in its own
right is an honest mistake. But, when all
is said and done...will the building be fully
compliant at ribbon cutting? Our staff will
ensure compliance goes smoothly
while the project is
under warranty with:
 On-site visits during
critical construction
phases.
 Post-construction
walk-thru and punch
list identifying
non-compliance.
Let us be your second set of eyes to help
you ensure your design and construction
documents are fully
compliant with all
applicable accessibility
laws and codes.
We will help to:
1. Identify design errors and omissions
that affect accessibility of spaces and
elements.
2. Cross-reference applicable project laws
and codes to ensure maximum
compliance.
3. Offer recommendations to correct non-
compliant areas.
4. Offer ideas to create an environment
that exceeds minimum requirements.
We are available to answer any regulatory
or technical questions related to:
 Law, code, and/or
technical clarification or
cross-reference.
 Human resource
consultation.
 Individual in-home or
work-related concerns.
Not all products are what they seem to
be. There is no ADA “ seal of approval ” or
“ certification ” for
products deemed to be
fully accessible and
compliant under the
law.
We will:
 Examine products
and review cut sheets.
 Review Warranty/
Service Agreements
to ensure product quality and usability.
 Offer guidance to manufacturers for
enhancing the usability of products,
furniture or equipment to ensure
industry standards and maximum usability.
DID YOU KNOW?
Compliance with State or localbuilding codes does not necessarilyconstitute compliance with Federalaccessibility regulations, and canleave you subject to potentiallitigation and financial penalties.
