The Western Serviceberry is a woody shrub or small tree native to Western North America from California to Alaska. It has oval, green leaves that turn yellow or orange in the fall. It blooms in spring with pure white, fragrant flowers and produces small, sweet, dark blue berries in early summer. The Western Serviceberry is suitable for shrub borders, hillsides, slopes, hedges or espaliered against a wall. It provides habitat and food for birds and butterflies. It grows best in full sun to part shade with moist to dry, well-drained soil.
