a persons gene
 Some forms occur due
to an absence of muscle
proteins or smaller then
avg. amounts.

both parents.
 You inherit it at birth.
 “Carrier”- If you are transmitted one
gene but do not have muscular
dystrophy.

4.  No way to prevent the disease since you
get it by way of genes.
 Accurate genetic test can identify if you
have the gene so that you can plan on
having children.
 There is not yet a cure.

5.  Treatment is centered around
preventing things such as weakness,
immobility, and heart defects
 Physical therapy is used.
 Surgery may also be needed at times

6.  Muscle weakness
 Lack of coordination
 Progressive crippling
 In different types of
Muscular Dystrophy the
symptoms vary.

7.  This disease is chronic.
 You have it for life therefore you become
immune to it.
 Your muscles and bones
are greatly affected.

 Lab tests are also used such as:
 Looking at blood level of muscle enzyme
creatine kinase (CK)
 Muscle Biopsy
 EMG-which checks how your muscles react
when stimulated
