Ray Harroun is considered one of the pioneering
automobile inventors. He won the inaugural Indy 500 with
what was then a groundbreaking invention. It was a
standard practice then to participate in 2 man teams for
races. His invention allowed him to eliminate the
position of his assistant, and hence with reduced weight
and aerodynamic advantage, he was able to eke out a
victory. It was considered extremely controversial, with
other racers contesting his invention on safety grounds,
as they believed a lack of second man would lead to
crashes. What invention, which is a standard accessory
on most modern cars did he pioneer?

Archaeologically speaking, the present starts
on January 1, 1950. Anything before that date
is considered before present (BP) and can be
studied archaeologically. The year 1950 was
chosen because of the events in the decade
preceding that year, which made modern carbon
testing essentially unreliable. The
abbreviation "BP", with the same meaning, has
also been interpreted as "Before P."; that is,
before the proportion of the carbon isotopes
in the atmosphere was artificially altered.
What makes the tests unreliable?

SOS is an internationally used acronym to
denote distress or emergency. A number of
individuals falsely (or jokingly or as a
backronym) associate it with phrases such as
"Save Our Ships" or "Send Out Succour" or
"Save our Soul." However, the same signal can
be passed unambiguously by communicating one

Astronaut Rusty Shweickart, in a 1976 interview
talks about a method that was used in the early
days of the Space era for solving the problem

pencil-trim moustache, he has been a crucial character
in X’s adventures playing his guardian. As such X’s
skills in martial arts, advanced medical procedures,
chemical engineering, nanotechnology and advanced
computer science come in handy.

When it was released, the idea of a
singing about a funeral in a pop song was
unthinkable. Yet the song, which was
