AmCham Taipei released the 2015 edition of its annual Taiwan White Paper at a press conference on June 4, followed by a membership luncheon. Both were presided over by Chamber Chairman Thomas Fann. The main theme of this year’s White Paper is the crucial importance for trade-dependent Taiwan of gaining entry into the second round of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact, now that the first round seems to be nearing its conclusion. Taiwan will need to convince the 12 existing negotiating countries that it is willing to accept the provisions of a high-standard, comprehensive free trade agreement. In the White Paper, AmCham also underscored the need for sound government policies to ensure sufficient supplies of electrical power, water, and human resources in the years ahead.
