The construction of high-performance industrial
flooring can be tricky when there are access,
width and load restrictions to be considered.
This is the case on such sites as underground
areas and raised platforms in which cumbersome
and heavy laying machinery cannot be used and
flooring thickness is restricted.
Eurovia has devised a thin surfacing combining
strength and easy application for use in industrial
flooring subjected to high stresses. Alvéocim® is a
surfacing material for industrial flooring consisting of
a synthetic honeycomb structure into which a cement
slurry is percolated.

QUALITies
Alvéocim® is a jointless, high-performance
industrial surfacing. It has excellent resistance
to shearfailure and rutting and has excellent
shear strength. Alvéocim® is insensitive to many
chemicals and to accidental hydrocarbon spills.
It meets the requirements of storage and handling
areas and roads with heavy channelled traffic. It is
the ideal solution for structures in which, because
of loading or space restrictions, it is difficult or
impossible to use conventional road surfacing
equipment.The thinness and limited weight of
Alvéocim® make the material particularly wellsuited to maintenance work, since clearances can
be maintained and overloading can be avoided.

Application
Alvéocim® is applied to a base which has been
properly treated to take account of the type of
soil and the dynamic and/or static loads expected
(substrate of bituminous mix, material treated with
hydraulic binder, cement concrete).

No heavy equipment is required to lay Alvéocim®.
A tack coat suited to the type of substrate is first
applied. The honeycomb plates are easy to handle
and can be cut to fit any surface.
The slurry is made in a mixer fitted with a pump to
pipe the slurry to the areas where it is to be applied.
The slurry is then smoothed with conventional floats
followed by a vibrating plate. The surface can be retrafficked by light vehicles the day after the slurry
has been applied.
STRUCTURE
The honeycomb structure is made of translucent
polyethylene with 20mm hexagonal cells. It is
manufactured in standard 2m by 1m plates with a
thickness of 2 to 4cm. The lower face of the plate
is covered with a permeable non-woven polyester
fabric to assist the Alvéocim® plate bonding to its
substrate. The slurry is a mixture of cement, mineral
filler, water and resin. The latter is a plastifying and
film-forming vinyl which assists in the cell filling and
formation of a dust-resistant film at the surface of
the flooring.
