CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION AND
BACKGROUND OF THE FIELD
ATTACHMENT
Mountains of the moon university faculty of education
introduced field attachment with the aim of exposing student
teachers to the general school management experiences
and to relate what they study at university with real life
experiences
As a student, I was assigned an eight week school field
attachment in the months of June and July for professional teacher
development. I was supposed to be at my assigned school at least
two days a week. I was expected to do all the assigned work by the
on-site supervisor.
Field attachment provides with hand on experience on the
general management of the school systems. Students should
be able to relate what they were taught at the university with
what actually takes place at work. This I hope will sharpen my
observation skill and later aid me in identifying areas of
research.
Field attachment is always intensive exercise monitored by the
on-site supervisor and academic supervisor. The school
administration is expected to cooperate and produce a
conducive environment for student in this exercise. Each student is
visited twice during the eight week period.
STUDENT'S OBJECTIVES
1. To find out the effect of school location on the
students achievement.
2. To find out how assessment and evaluation
affects students achievement.
3. To find out the role of discipline on students
achievement.
4. To carryout classroom observation and how
teaching and learning affect students
performance
METHODS USED TO
ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVES
1. Interviewing method: This involved the face to face
interaction between me and the interviewee. using
the interview guide I asked the teacher on duty on
how they administer punishments to students who
come late at school and those who speak vernacular
2. Observation method: This involved the use of my eyes
to observe the school environment activities and
culture to gather information. For example, I observed
how the teaching and learning takes place.
3. Documentary analysis: This included recorded
information for example the minutes of the previous
meetings and school rules and regulations copy .

CHAPTER TWO
Introduction: To find out the impact
of the mode of assessment and
evaluation on students achievement.
Class activities: These activities are mostly given during class
time to students. For example students of s1, 2 and 3 are
always given activities of integration after every topic. This has
helped students to stay in school since as per the new
curriculum where the school submits students' marks obtained
from the activities of integration.
Examinations: Students of s 5and 4 are given termly exams for
example beginning of term, mid term and end of term
whereas s1,2 and 3 are given activities of integration after
every topic. With the marks obtained by the students,
teachers are able to make report cards that are given to
students termly.
Co-curricular activities: These activities include football,
netball and athletics. Teachers evaluate Students during these
activities and marks are awarded to every participate. This is
done among the s1, 2 and 3 because of the new curriculum.
In conclusion, continuous assessment and evaluation has
helped Students to improve their performance which attract
more students to the school hence increased school
enrollment.

Class activity. These are carried out during normal class lessons
to test whether the learners have understood and grasped
the content for example S.1, S.2 and S.3 were always given
activity of integration after every topic. This helps students to
keep attentive in class hence improving on their achievement
at the end of every lesson or topic.
In so doing, more students are attracted to join the school thus
leading to an increased enrollment.
The available staff is disciplined and they enforce discipline
among their students. Through the discipline obtained by the
learners, they attract more students to join the school leading
to a higher enrollment in school.

form of text books.
 Introduction to the topic :
Teachers in senior 1 and 2
introduced topics by writing
on the blackboard and
students and students were
asked questions if they had
any knowledge about the

and learning was conducted
through different groups
where the groups were asked
to discuss about the questions

 The practice of field
attachment should continue
because students gain more
experience from the field.
To the participants
 Students should report to their
schools of attachment at
least two days a week.
 Students should follow the
school rules and regulations
of the school of attachment
to avoid contradiction with
other teachers
