Education Commons
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The K-12 Education Market relies on a tangle of telecom, networks and patchy technology
“solutions”. Tech Industry conventions exacerbate the inefficient use of scarce capital. Current IT
infrastructure efforts fail to create value in a context of pervasive fragmentation. In this
environment of public-funding starvation in a market that is poised for extreme digital growth and
expansive new media content, a disruptive model for efficient and comprehensive information
technology in schools is required.
AllOneMind (AOM) offers a transformation agenda. AOM’s Education Commons (EC) advocates
a nationwide, shared IT infrastructure that facilitates an efficient aggregation of resources ---
server/network/ storage, wireless broadband saturation, content resources and IT management. This is
a value-pioneering model with a coherent, system-wide IT development strategy. Anchored among
diverse geographic regions, the Commons will establish IT “farms” that pool common demand in a rich
network of asset-sharing relationships across K-12 districts in a nationwide network.
The EC offers full-context, robust capacity & access without schools districts owning the
physical network itself. It removes a significant capital expense for IT infrastructure and converts it
into a variable cost. High performance collaboration with strategic partners; critical mass
interoperability, and “best of breed” options enable common-value efficiencies on a large scale.
The Education Commons
Utilizes spectrum already committed to education, though not integrated;
Exchanges fragmentation for coherence;
Redefines the economics of IT in education;
Radically reconstructs the strategic logic for IT provision in K-12 education; and
This coherent, stable and pervasive ecosystem of shared resources is accessed rather like a
highly evolved utility. The Commons model is structured to fully optimize costs for information
systems and networks in education. Costs are reduced further as scale economies kick in, due to the
high buy-in that superior value generates.

Status Of The Organization
AllOneMind Network is a 501 © (3) non-profit, tax-exempt educational organization
currently in the research and development stage. We are currently focusing our research to determine
and compare financial requirements for a credible initiative. Our short-term goal is to provide proof of
concept based upon rigorous analysis of data.
The ecosystem model will be validated with a low-cost market incursion with the long-term
objective of a sustainable enterprise. To support these current efforts, AllOneMind is seeking
Charitable Foundations and Angel Investors with high-level commitments to education as our primary
sources of start-up funds.
As the Keystone player, AllOneMind will orchestrate a broad range of interdependent and
integrated relationships that together increase productivity in this crucial market. The Commons
solution depends upon intricate and disciplined negotiations with potential tech partners, education
professionals and content providers.
Competitive Environment
This is a battle of business models. Competitive advantage will be established with radical
innovation, high performance implementation and operational excellence. The Commons model is
fundamentally an aggregated education market that illuminates opportunities in unexpected places.
The Commons will shift the compete/collaborate ratio into uncontested market space with enough
leverage to alter the basis of competition, drivers of profit and industry economics among the relevant
firms.
Non-profit status offers the Commons a sustainable advantage over for-profit concerns.
Interwoven with strong collaborative partnerships, this model has built-in financial advantages. It
expands the value beyond functionality to reduced capital intensity, costs and risk. Critically, the
Commons will unlock the economic imperative of a robust return from IT investment in the K-12
education segment.
Founder and Principal
Leslie Starkman is the founding member of AllOneMind. After 24 years providing financial
and investment counsel, Estate Administration and business consulting through her company, Conscious
Financial Resources, Leslie obtained an Executive MBA from the Anderson School of Management at
UCLA in 2007. The rigorous coursework and challenges at Anderson provides a sound foundation for
radical innovation in this new effort.
