Jack Dixon created a music video for his final major project. He filmed scenes at a country park and music festival after his initial footage was poor quality. Editing challenges included syncing footage to the beat and speeding up clips. Feedback was positive from friends who found it funny, showing the intended humor was effective. While the final video differed from his original plan, it still targeted the desired demographic of students interested in house music and festivals. Through this project, Jack improved his skills with Adobe software, camerawork, and independent working.
Benjamin Lewis Lawrenson proposes creating a comedy music video/short film called "Cool waiting room music". It will follow 5 characters in a waiting room who unintentionally create a song using objects around them. The 4-stage story will show the characters developing a beat that turns into a full song. Benjamin will film on a green screen and use Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop for editing, adding locations, and rotoscoping effects to link objects to the music. He will create the music in GarageBand and evaluate his work against professionals to improve skills like editing, sound, and storytelling.

This document summarizes a student's work on their Final Major Project (FMP) over several weeks. It includes:
- Initial plans for a fashion magazine FMP were changed to a music video due to financial constraints.
- Time was spent redoing planning and research for the new music video project.
- Early filming included shots at a park of two characters on swings and a roundabout to portray them having fun.
- Footage was edited and color graded in Premiere Pro to brighten the darker clips.
- A script was written for an intro skit but it was unable to be filmed due to scheduling issues.
- A "confetti scene" was
This document contains a student's reflections on the initial planning and production process for their music video project. In the first week, they did planning and research, including choosing a song, brainstorming ideas, and researching other music videos. They tested out lip syncing and visual effects. For their proposal, they outlined their target audience and concept of a character waking up after a party confused about the night before. Their pre-production included structuring the video, storyboarding, and creating a shot list. During production, they found their pre-planning helped everything go smoothly, and they began editing by lip syncing and adding effects like rewinds.
1) For their final media project, the student produced a music video for the song "Bassline" by The GetAlongGang. They filmed outdoor scenes at a country park but the quality was poor, so they filmed additional footage at a music festival.
2) In editing the video, they trimmed clips and sequenced them to the song "Every Little Piece" by Hot Since 82. They added effects like split screens and layered clips to make it more interesting.
3) Although issues with the first filming caused changes from the original plan, the student believes the final video still appeals to its target demographic of students interested in house music, festivals, and clubbing. They received positive feedback, especially from friends
The document summarizes the student's progress over several weeks working on a short film production. In the first week, the student looked at existing short films and learned basic filmmaking skills. They created sound experiments and a practice short film in groups. In subsequent weeks, the student developed plans and storyboards for their film, conducted audience research, and completed pre-production tasks like structuring scenes, creating shot lists, and planning logistics. They then filmed their short film over two days and began editing by adjusting colors, lighting, and adding music to scenes.
Week 1: The student began with initial responses and production experiments to develop their short film idea of a horror/comedy genre. The experiments helped them learn how to use the tools and equipment.
Week 2: The student analyzed techniques in sample films and conducted audience research to further develop their story and shots. They created a proposal and pre-production presentation.
Week 3: Pre-production tasks included story development, structural breakdown, storyboards, and risk assessments to prepare for filming.
Week 4: The student completed filming and editing, realizing the film was longer than planned but all scenes were needed. They changed some music and sounds to better suit the film and added effects.
Week 5: The
This production diary details Hope Smith's work over 13 weeks to create a short horror film for a class project. In the initial weeks, Hope conducted research on horror films, artists, and psychological concepts to inform her project. She created surveys and analyzed responses to learn about audience interests. During planning, Hope storyboarded shots and created floor plans, equipment lists, and character designs. Principal filming occurred in Week 9, though reshoots were needed. Weeks 10-12 focused on editing, color grading, and transitions. In the final weeks, Hope added audio effects, end credits, and other finishing touches before exporting the completed film.
In the first week, Amy Foster began planning and researching ideas for her music video by looking at other music videos for inspiration. She chose the song "Sundress" by A.S.A.P Rocky to use. In the second week, she researched aspects of music videos and looked at specific videos for elements to incorporate. In the third week, Amy created experiments with editing techniques in Premiere Pro. In the fourth week, she filmed and edited her final music video but felt her ideas lacked due to using them in the experiments. In the fifth week, Amy evaluated her final music video and production process.
The document discusses the planning and research stages of creating a music video. It describes analyzing existing music videos to help plan shots, narrative, and style. Extensive planning tasks are outlined, including creating logos, storyboards, calendars, test footage, and draft packaging. Various software like Photoshop and Final Cut were used to design elements and edit the final video. Throughout production, rough cuts and drafts were made and reviewed iteratively to improve the end product.
The document proposes a music video for the song "When the Sun Goes Down" by Arctic Monkeys. It will tell the story of the song's lyrics by portraying them on screen in public places to look realistic. Eerie lighting and editing effects will convey the song's negative tone. Close shots will show who the lyrics reference. Research included watching music videos with similar tones and storytelling techniques, such as "Pompeii" by Bastille. Effects like color changes and a Kodak filter will make the video look cinematic. Handheld shots without lip syncing will seem real. A schedule outlines filming, editing, and evaluation over 5 weeks.
This document provides a weekly summary of Luke Simpson's film production process over 10 weeks. In the first few weeks, Luke conducted research, created mind maps and mood boards, developed characters and story ideas. He also created surveys to gather audience feedback. In subsequent weeks, Luke wrote proposals, created storyboards, scheduled production, experimented with styles and techniques, filmed, edited, added music and sound effects. In the final week, Luke evaluated his process and incorporated peer feedback to finalize his film production project.
The document discusses the student's media production project. It includes questions about how the project uses or challenges conventions of real media, how it represents social groups, what type of institution might distribute it, who the target audience is, how the audience is addressed, what technologies were learned, and reflections on improvements from the preliminary work. The student provides thoughtful answers discussing their creative choices and what they learned about filmmaking techniques.
The student created a music video for their final major project. They chose the song "Hopeless Wanderer" by Mumford and Sons after initially selecting a different song. Footage was shot over two days using techniques like depth of field and rule of thirds. Some shots had to be changed due to technical issues. The video was edited in Adobe Premier. The student received positive feedback from their target audience praising the editing and camera work.
The document provides feedback from test audiences on a student's music video project. The student asked their focus group several questions to better understand how to improve the video. They learned that they needed to stabilize shots, add more angles and lighting, clarify the narrative, and refilm some parts. While the overall idea and music were liked, the student gained insight on strengthening editing, shot variety, and making the story more apparent. This feedback helped the student identify areas for improvement and informed changes made in revising and reshooting parts of the video.
The document is a daily production diary for a promotional campaign for a music artist. Over 7 weeks, the diary documents progress made on shooting photos and video footage of the artist, editing a promotional video trailer and posters, receiving feedback, and making improvements. Challenges included not knowing how to properly use the camera at first, blending different audio tracks, and designing readable promotional materials. By week 7, all materials were completed and final feedback was incorporated.

2. The first scene in the media room will be used with green screen scene where the girls
will start to dance and mess around together but in the process of changing their outfits a
lot making it look like an instant change of clothes almost like magic
3. The next scene will consist of lots of balloons all in the air and stuck to the backdrop, all
over the floor to make it look like a pool of balloons. This will be used with the white
backdrop to make it look less mad with all the balloons going on.
4. The next scene will be just the girls dancing with each other and prancing round the
scene with glasses used for photo booths and party poopers. This is a very random
scene with random props
Special Requirements: (inc. details of props / costumes needed, preparation required)
For the preparation of my shoot I will need the backdrop up in the media room, this will
include a green screen but will also need a change to the white backdrop.
There will be several costume changes throughout my music video which will consist of
different outfits and different colour dresses.
For another one of the scenes I will need 20-30 balloons to make the backdrop more
interesting and make it more fun.
I will also need a wind machine. This will add a good, fun effect to the shoot and will look
good on the actors.
In another scene I will need a chair for a good photo-shoot position for the girls to be in.
For another scene I will try and get my hand on some wigs and some photo booth
glasses that are big and silly. This will look like they are having fun too and while the
umbrellas are going off to make it look like the photos are being taken
4. Week 1: today I started my music video planning. I thought by getting all the planning out the way I will have more time
to complete my actual video. I felt there was a lot to do so I thought the best way to do it was by making a production
timeline. I organised how I am going to do it and when I should be completing the different tasks.
Week 2: this week I started completing all of my pre production documents. I started by filling out the actor release
forms, the call sheets for different locations, equipment borrowing, equipment list, location recce, location contracts,
personel details and the risk assessment. All of these things I could complete before even starting to film my footage.
Week 3: this week I started my draft proposal and my proposal. This was very time consuming and I needed to put a lot
of thought into it as I wanted to get a distinction for this unit. I started by doing a draft proposal and I did that in the form
of bullet points as I thought that was the best way to organise something that I wanted to write about in further detail.
Once I had finished that, I started on my proposal. I outlined different headings which is everything I needed to talk
about. Which included: description of intentions, outline of my music video, target audience, sound, costumes and
props, editing, cast, inspiring music videos, filming and distribution.
Week 4: this week I made a start of my concept ideas as it was going to take a long time to complete. I needed to do
some research into my song and lyrics and really make sure I know what my idea is. I created a power point that
consisted of inspiring music videos, mood board, my intentions of music video, equipment needed, scene ideas, outfit
ideas, hair and makeup ideas, song research, editing techniques and conventions, storyboard, mind map, song lyric
analysis.
Week 5: this was the first week that I went out and filmed. I firstly filmed in room 11 with Rebecca and it went well. I
filmed a lot of different shots of her singing to the song and the lighting I felt was very good. Once I had filmed I used
what I had so far and put it into premier pro and made a start of my video. I filled in the bits that I had and made a note
of what else I had to do to fill in the bits that I needed. I got the music track I was using from youtube and placed it into
premier pro
Week 6: this week I was creating my presentation that we had to present to the class. We had to basically just make a
powerpoint of what our music video is going to be like so my class mates know what to expect. It was being recorded
aswell. I presented to the class this week. Now that was out the way I could quite literally just focus on finishing my
music video.
Week 7: I still needed more footage to fill in some gaps so I filmed during my lesson with Rebecca. We used room 19
which had the photoshoot equipment in. I wanted to film Rebecca having a fake photoshoot so I put the yellow seat on
the white background and had Rebecca sit on the chair with loads of little balloons around her which looked cool. I also
filmed her with a grey background with bubbles all around her using a bubble machine but it didn’t look good with the
grey background so I decided not to use it.
Week 8: now I had filmed everything I needed, it was time to put everything together. Now it was starting to look a lot
better and more professional which I was happy with. Continued editing and adding cross dissolves and dip to blacks to
add that extra effect.
Week 9: I carried on editing my music video
Diary
5. Draft proposal
Description of my intentions-
Be and look professional- Looking at different professional music videos.
Have costume changes& different looks
I want to make it fun and not boring so the audience don’t lose concentration
Week 10: I still felt at this point that I needed more footage to make it that extra bit interesting. It was a late call but I
decided to go out and film Rebecca again. We went to an external location as all of my other shots were internal and it
looked really dull. We went to Eastcote house gardens which had a lot of pretty scenes that I could use. I brought them
back to school and added it onto my rushes log and added it to my music video and it looked a lot better than it did
before.
Week 11: editing my music video more and more to make sure everything had been filled with lots of different shots and
a shot isn’t too long.
Week 12: this week I had basically finished my music video I just had to make some final decisions. I got 2-3 peers to
watch it and say what they thought would make it better. They said that I need to add some adjustment layers and
colour correct it so I did that for every single shot and made sure it looked professional and not messy at all. I created
the shot list and rushes log documents which I could only do once I filmed everything.
Week 13: this was my final few days to really make sure that my music video was perfect. I made a few adjustments
that needed to be made just to make sure there is nothing wrong with my video. I rendered it out and printed all of my
pre production sheets off and burned my music video to a disk and then everything was complete after a long 13 weeks
of this particular task.

songI am using.I won’tneedanydiegeticsoundinmymusicvideoastheyare justgoingto be
dancingand singingtothe song‘Poison’ByRitaOra. I feel thatthisisa goodsuccessful songto
use as the song starts outwitha slowtempo, throughoutthe songitgetsfasterand more of a
beatbuildsup.I have chosenthissongbecause itisveryrecentand wasreleasedinMay2015.
Because itis sorecent,youngerpeople wouldbe familiarwiththissongwhichiswhatmy
audience is.The songreachednumber1 on 9 July2015 and wascertified"Poison"goldforselling
35,000 copies.
Costumes& props.
My musicvideoisgoingtoneeda lotof costumes, propsdue tothe differentscenesIamhaving
inmy musicvideo.Iam having4 differentcostumesformymusicvideowhichare forthe 4
differentscenes.Formyfirstcostume Iam havingjustsimplyblack andwhite dresses,withblack
and white heels.Eachactresswill be wearingeitherblackorwhite.Myotheroptionfor an outfit
isgoingto be differentcolourdressesthatIwill edittogethertomake itlooklike quickcostume

thinka onesie wouldbe the perfectoptionforthe scene withthe bubble machine.Inthisscene
imgoingto have a bubble machine blowingbubblesatthe setand the actresses.Ithink byhaving
that bubble machine itwill lookreallycool throughthe cameraandmake the scene lookmore
interesting.
editing
In myeditingstage Iam goingto use the programme premierPro.Ihave decidedtouse this
particularprogramme as I am veryfamiliarwithitandhow to use all itstoolsas I have usedthis
programme several timesbefore forpreviousprojectandfeel everythingIneedtodofor this
musicvideo,Iam able to dothroughpremierpro.Howeverinmyeditingstage,Iam goingto add
a feweditingtechniqueswhichinclude slow motionandextremeslow motion.Forexamplewhen
the actress isgettingall ready, there isgoingtobe a glassof wateronthe table, whichwhenthe
beatkicksin onthe song, she hitsthe glassso it fallsoff the table andsmashes, andwhilstit
smashesIwill have thatbitin extreme slow motiontoaddthat greatereffectof itactuallygetting

movingthroughthe air inslowmotion.
CAST:
I had no problemchoosingmycastformy musicvideo.Assoonas I thoughtaboutit I knew whoI
wantedtobe inmine.A drama/musicstudentwhoisusedtobeingaroundcamerasand isn’t
camera shy.She has beeninnumerousschool plays,dramaperformances,andtheatre’sand
musicshowsso she isverytalented.Ithoughtbyhavingherfeature inmymusicvideoitwould
turn outto be whatmy intentionswere atthe beginning. Iwantedsomeone thatcanreallyhelp
my musicvideobe the bestitcouldbe whichis mainlydone throughthe actors.Theyare the main
stars of musicvideoswhichisa reallyimportantfactorforme,possiblythe mainthingthatIwant
to focuson because withoutagoodactor to feature inthe musicvideo, itwill notbe to the best
of mystandardthat I originallywanted.Secondly,Iwanted2people tobe inmy musicvideoto
add a ‘contrast’or bestfriend type of musicvideo.Iwanteditto be 2 bestfriendswhoare having
a reallyfuntime togetherdoingaphotoshoot. My secondneedwasto have someone whois
bubblyandfunand whocan just be theirself inthe videoandjustshow thattheyare havinga
reallygoodtime andenjoyingthemselves.Ithoughtof RebeccaMaleneywhoismyfriendbutis
alsoone of the funniestpeople Iknow.Ithoughtthiswouldbe perfectforwhatIwantedas she
can make anythingseemfunevenwhenshe doesn’thave tobe acting. She isthe girl who wasthe
maincharacter inmy short filmwhichwasa huge successinthe acting side of things.Iwas really
happyto inwhat my shortfilmturnedoutlike andthat wasdownto Rebecca’sacting.Because of
thisI thoughtit woulddonoharm to havingherhelpme again.Eventhoughit isreallydifferentto
a short film,Ithinkshe will be goodforthe role I need.
InspiringMusic video’s
I have manyvideo’sthatI have watchedwhichIthinkthat will inspireme inmyown.I wantto use
a lot of slowmotioninmymusic videowhichIhave watchedacouple of professional music
videosthatfeature slowmotion.A goodslow motionvideothatI have seenis‘CiaraI Bet’which
has a lotof elegantslowmotionsectionsinhervideo.Ithoughtthisone wasverysuccessful due
to the effectsof slowmotioninit.She iswearingaflowingdressthatwhenitmoves,andputin
slowmotion,itlooksamazingandeverythingisflowinginthe airwhichwill catchthe audience’s
attentionandnotmake themlose interest.Iwantto doa similarthingwithmyvideobutnotwith
the outfit,Ithinkthe slowmotionwiththe balloonsgoingeverywhereandthe friendsjumpingin
the air tryingto catch themwouldbe veryfunto watch and alsoveryeffectiveatthe same time.
Anothervideothatcaughtmy eye andwantedtoadjusttheirideasto mine wasan amateur
example musicvideobyClare Hannington.Hermusicvideowasahuge achievementas itwas
filmedverywell withslow motionandalot of close upsand extreme close ups.Ithada lot of
differentshotsinwhichwasveryeffective asitmade usmore interestedinwhatshe wasdoing,
whichinrealityisboring to watch- puttingonmakeup.Butby herdifferentshotsitwasmakingit
lookmore interesting.Inmyvideoatthe beginningandthroughoutmymusicvideo,isgoingtobe
a girl gettingreadyfor herphotoshoot,by doingherhairand makeup.Idon’twant itto look
boringso I am goingto use Clare’svideotohelpme withideasfordifferentshotstodo.I found
thisvideoveryeffectiveandeasytowatch withoutgettingbored.Hershotswere impressive and
verycreative too. Alsothe fact that she filmeditinablack roommakesit lookveryprofessional
and makesthe actors standout more.Thisis somethingIcouldacknowledge inmyownvideoas
the black roomis a great ideawhichIcouldhave a room full of colourful balloonsinthe black
room butlightthe balloonsup. My thirdmusicvideothathas givenme inspirationisMegan
Trainor’s‘All AboutThe Bass’video.Thisisa performance basedmusicvideoasthere are clipsof
hersingingthe songin betweenthe dancingandall the actiongoingon. The videoisvery
colourful all the waythroughandalwayshas a lot goingonin the differentshotstoo.Thisgives
the audience somethingtoalwayswatchas there isalwayssome actioninthe shots. The
backgroundismostlypinkor a pastel colourwhichmakesthe videolookverybrightandalsovery
17. fun.I tookthat ideaon boardand I thoughtif I had lotsof coloursinmy musicvideo, itwill keep
the audience more involvedandinterested. All threeof these musicvideosare verydifferentbut
theyall inspire me forideasformymusicvideoindifferentways.Ifindall of these video’s
interestingtowatchwhichis whatI wantpeople tosay whentheywatchmyvideoandfor them
to not getbored.Whichisdefiantlysomethingthatthese videosaren’tandwilltake all of thaton
bored.
Filming
Duringthe course of creatingmy musicvideo, the mostvital partisgettingthe footage formy
musicvideo.Thissectionneedsalotof thinkingthroughandplanning.FirstlyIneededtobookout
the rooms onthe daysthat I wanteditwhichI did.The most convenienttimesforme tofilmwas
duringschool hours. To make sure the rooms were free Iprintedouta copy of the room’s
timetable andforwhere the roomwasfree andI workedaroundthat. The room that I filmedin
was room11, a drama room whichisall black soI neededtothinkthroughhow I wasgoingto set
up the equipmentIneeded.The equipmentIusedwasa Cannon5500D camera,tripod,redhead
lightingsandgelstoputoverthe lights. The wayI setthe room up forfilmingwasbyfirstlydoing
the lights.Iput one lightat the back, andthe otherlightseitherside of wherethe actorwill be
standing.Ibelievethisgave the actorthe bestlightingitcouldof. At one pointImade Rebeccasit
on the floorand putwateron her face to make itlooklike she wascrying,as my songis about
dangerand sadnesssoI wantedtogive it thatextradanger feel andIfeltIcould dothisreallywell
by puttinga Gel overthe top of the lightstomake Rebeccabe in a redlight.I thoughtthislooked
reallyeffectiveandit’sdefiantlysomethingIwantto use inmy video.
Distribution
My musicvideowill be putonYouTube whenitfirstgetsreleased.YouTube isaverypopularsite
whichhas billionsof videos,not onlymusicvideos,butblogs,films,live showsreplaysetc.butnot
onlydo people use YouTube forwatchingvideos,theycanalsouploadtheirownvideosontheir

by a well-knownartistinthiseraandgeneration,itwill getalotof viewswhichwill make the
videogoviral and popular.Asmytarget audience isforyoungadults14-30 yearoldfemalesIfeel
YouTube will be asuccessfor my musicvideoasthe artist singingthe song(RitaOra) whohas

musicchannels. The musicchannelsshow the songsandmusicvideosthatare in the charts
normallytop100. As thissongispopularat the momentbyhavingmymusicvideoshownon
channels like MTV’smusicchannel,4Musicwill be amazingadvertisementforitas well.Young

locations
I have decidedtofilmin3 differentlocations.Ifeltthatbywatchingothermusicvideos,mostof
themlookmore interestingandeffective whenithasvariousdifferentlocationsinsteadof just
one.My original ideawastojust have 2 locationswhichwere bothgoingtobe filmedwhichwere
bothfeaturedinschool.Butas my ideaprogressedIthoughtbyhavinga locationthatis outside
will make itlookmore effective andwon’tgetboringinanyway.Alsoas bothof mylocationsthat
I am usingat school are bothblackwitha blackbackgroundandI feltthat itwouldlookcooler.
