During January 2010, 1,263 olim arrived in Israel, a 29% increase over January 2009. The majority, 546 olim, arrived from the Former Soviet Union, primarily from Russia and Ukraine. 166 olim arrived from Latin America, a 68% increase over last year. 291 olim arrived from Ethiopia during this period as well.

1. Aliyah Statistics –January 2010
This analysis relates to olim who have come to Israel under the care of the Aliyah and Absorption Department of
the Jewish Agency, not including Ethiopian olim.
During January 2010, 1,263 olim arrived. This is a 29% increase over the same period last year (752). It is a 68%
increase including Ethiopian olim.
FSU, Germany and Eastern Europe
During January 2010, 569 arrived from this geographic domain, in comparison with 349 in January 2009, an
increase of 63%.
546 arrived from the FSU (43% of all olim during this period). This is a 63% increase over last year.
The majority of olim from the FSU are from Russia, totaling 276 (a 74% increase over last year)
106 olim arrived from the Ukraine (a 74% increase over last year).
From South Caucasus 66 olim arrived (a 100% increase over last year).
From Central Asia 32 olim arrived (a 29% decrease since last year)
During January, 5 olim arrived from Germany, as opposed to 7 in 2009.
18 olim arrived from Eastern Europe, as opposed to last year when 8 arrived, an increase of 125%. 12 of these
olim came from Hungary.
English Speaking Countries
During January 2010, 169 olim arrived from this geographic domain. This is a decrease of 9% over 2009.
From North America 97 olim came, as compared to 117 last year, a decrease of 17%.
From Great Britain 24 olim arrived, as compared to 20 last year, an increase of 20%.
12 olim arrived from South Africa, as compared to 9 last year.
29 olim arrived from Oceana, as compared to 25 last year.
Europe and Middle East
A total of 91 olim arrived from this geographic domain during January 2010, as compared to 119 last year, a
decrease of 24%.
During this period, 56 olim arrived from France, as opposed to 92 last year. In addition, on January 31. 2010 a
group flight left France and arrived in Israel on February 1st with 64 olim and will therefore be recorded in
February's figures.
7 olim arrived from Belgium, the same amount as last year.
Latin America
166 olim arrived from this geographic domain during January 2010, as compared to 99 last year, an increase of
68%.
46 olim came from Argentina, as compared to 22 last year, an increase of 109%
37 olim arrived from Brazil, as compared to 32 last year, an increase of 16%
15 olim arrived from Mexico, an increase of 88%.
8 olim arrived from Chile, an increase of 14%.
Ethiopia
During January 2010, 291 olim arrived from Ethiopia.
