1. “What is a game”
- A “game” is when an individual or group of people engages in an activity to
perform a certain objective to try and win. In this case, the objective of the baseball game
is to try and score more runs, which is when a player from one team crosses home plate,
than the other team before a certain number of innings. An inning has two halves where
one team bats and tries to score runs and the other team tries to prevent them from
scoring. Then after three outs, which is when an opposing player is retired, the teams
switch. After nine innings, the team with the most runs wins the game, but if the score is
tied, then extra innings are played until one team has more runs when an inning is over.
2. “Why are there no female players?”
- There are no female players on a baseball team because baseball has historically
been a male-only sport. Baseball executives are unlikely to change the way that the game
has been played for hundreds of years. For this reason, most females are steered away
from playing baseball competitively because they will be under heavy scrutiny, so they
chose not to play it. In all honestly, there really isn’t any way of telling how well, or not,
females could play baseball against males since there isn’t any evidence of how they
would compare on the field. So the simple answer is, as of now, there are no females
because baseball is a male-only sport. This might change, but it’s unclear if it will.
2. 3. “Why do people get so passionate about watching other people play?”
- Sports and games in general give a collective feeling of competition for all those
that are watching. The teams that people cheer for have some kind of significance to that
person. It might be that they grew up where the team is located, they might have had
family who supported that team so they grew up to be like their parents, or they had a
personal reason for wanting to cheer that specific team on.
4. “What is a team?”
- A “team” is a group of athletes who were all selected to play for a certain
organization. They work together in order to win games and championships.
5. “Why can’t the people in the stands do down on the field and join in?”
- One reason why the people in the stands can’t help is because it is simply
against the rules. If a person from the stands tries to get onto the field, they will be detain
by security and led out of the stadium, unable to reenter. If a large group of people goes
onto the field, the game will be delayed until the problem is taken care of and the people
who want to watch the game don’t want to be there for any distractions. If there are too
many disruptions on the field, the officials may end the game and give the victory to the
opposing team and no home crowd wants to lose by technicality.
