Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1.) What is a game?
A game of baseball is played by men with a wooden bat and a small ball. There are nine
men at field and take turns batting and fielding. There is an outfield, which is grassy, and
the infield is sand. The team at bat wants to try to hit the ball as far as they can so they
can run around first base, second base, third base, and the fourth base (where they
stand when they are batting) called home. The bases are in a diamond shape around the
infield. In order to be “safe” on the base, they have to step with at least one foot on the
plate. There is a pitcher that throws the ball, over handed, to the catcher who is bent
down behind the batter. The batter wants to try to hit the ball that is thrown to the
catcher. Every time the batter runs (counter-clockwise) around the bases and goes all
the way to home, they score a point for their team. While batting, if the pitcher throws
it too low or too high (below the waist, or above shoulders) it is called a “ball”, if you
swing at one of those pitches it is called a strike or if you swig and completely miss; if
you get hit with a ball it is considered as an automatic base so you would walk to first
base; and if a player gets three strikes, they are out. Each team gets three strike outs
until they are forced to switch places with the other team. There are nine innings to a
game. During the whole game, there is an umpire that controls the whole game and
decides on the calls of the balls the pitcher throws and if people are safe on bases.
2.) Why are there no female players?
There could be female players in baseball, but most females are driven away when it
comes to baseball, so they play softball which is the same as baseball but underhand
pitching. Baseball players have a more intense speed on their pitching unlike girls and
the balls are different sizes. There is also a further distance between the bases in
baseball than softball, but that doesn’t mean girls can’t run fast enough to the bases.
3.) Why do people get so passionate watching other people play games?
As an audience, people tend to get passionate about the game they are watching,
because sports can really pull you into the action. If you're a fan of a team and it is
currently an exciting moment or a big game, you get a rush of adrenaline too just as a
player would. When people watch games they tend to get too into it, especially
2. watching TV, and get excited and clap and even yell at the TV. It’s natural to support
"your team" and feel "pumped up" while watching them perform or play.
4.) What is a team?
A teams made up of people with the same mind set. They are there to play together as a
family, they will support one another no matter what is happening, and have the same
skill concepts. Teams have a high expectation of authority, responsibility for self -
management, and those whom are accountable working towards the same goals.
5.) Why can’t people in the seats just go down on the field and join in?
There are security guards that are at almost every entrance of the top of the stands and
they will seat you. You have to be a member of the team to play, not just anyone can
jump onto the field. If someone was to do so, they could get seriously hurt from not
having experience with the sport.
