Alejandra Calatayud, VP & General Manager, Global Corporate Group,
Global Corporate Payments, American Express
Alejandra Calatayud is a seasoned executive with international experience in software
development, consulting, sales, marketing and business administration, gained over a 27 year
career in the IT and financial industries in New Zealand, Australia, New York and Mexico.
Currently, Alejandra is Vice President & General Manager of the Global Corporate Group division of
Global Corporate Payments for American Express. Previously, she was Vice President & General
Manager of Global Corporate Payments for American Express Latin America. In this role Alejandra
established American Express as a leader in T&E and B2B corporate payment solutions in Mexico
and Argentina and was responsible for growing the corporate business by double digits for 4
consecutive years.
Prior to joining American Express in 2010, Alejandra worked for Microsoft Corporation for fifteen
years, where she focused on creating and maintaining relationships both with clients and partners
across several market segments.
From 2006 to 2008, Alejandra was Business and Marketing Director of Microsoft Mexico. In this
role, she led all marketing and communications strategies for the company and was responsible for
long-term strategic growth and driving performance and revenue of all business units in the
company.
In 2003, she was named General Manager for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, responsible
for designing marketing and sales strategies, business plan development and services to over
40,000 small and mid-sized companies.
Before joining Microsoft, Alejandra was a consultant in New Zealand and Australia for five years,
where she worked on a project that included the branch system for the New South Wales Bank in
Sydney, Australia.
Alejandra established Seedtime Water Foundation in New York, a nonprofit organization supporting
education projects in Mexico, in 2004. She is also the founder of Bikram Yoga Mexico S.C. and
YogaSoul S.A. de C.V. companies in Mexico.
In 2006, she was recognized with the Corporate Citizen Achiever Award by LISTA (Latinos in
Information Sciences and Technology Association) for her contributions to developing Latino talent
in engineering and computer science, and for her work in developing small and mid-sized minority
companies in the United States. In 2007, she was honored as one of 13 female leaders in Mexico
by Mujer Ejecutiva. She wrote the book El Balance Perfecto published by Urano Editors in 2009.
Alejandra has a degree in electrical engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios
Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). She currently resides in New York City with her husband.
