First time applying for a government loan/grant and, after a few false starts, the Small Business Administration (SBA) came through for your boy!
On April 15th I applied for a grant called the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) through Lendio and Bank of America. And then the money ran out for me, and millions of Americans. Apparently $350B is not enough to keep freelancers and small business owners like myself afloat.
Congress acted and as of yesterday my grant was deposited into my bank account - I can keep the lights on for my employees and myself a little longer!
The Paycheck Protection Program is one of many SBA Loans & Grants at our avail.

The survey found that 51% of organizations reported an increase in mental health problems over the past year.

The document discusses skills gaps in the UK labor market and factors frustrating jobs growth. It finds that 50% of candidates lack the right skills and 44% cite cuts to public sector funding. The top five skills the government should focus on improving are listed as literacy, numeracy, communication, customer service/business awareness, and interpersonal skills. Employers still say it is difficult to find literate and numerate candidates.

This document discusses the increasing gap between top executive pay and average worker pay over the past 30 years in major UK companies. It shows that the multiple of average pay for top executives has increased dramatically from 13-16 times average pay in 1979-1980 to 38-75 times average pay in 2009-2011. While top executive pay has increased to over £1 million per year at some companies, average worker pay has not increased at the same rate. The growing complexity of executive reward policies risks further widening inequality in the workplace.

DIVERSITY AND CAREER PROGRESSION
The majority of black and minority ethnic employees describe themselves as ambitious but, as recent research reveals, despite years of equality legislation, racial discrimination still lingers on in the British workplace
This document appears to be from a magazine called People Management published by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in August 2011. The magazine seems to focus on topics related to human resources and talent management. It includes articles on adapting an organization for the future, lessons for HR from News International, and how strategic HR can make an impact.
1) HR directors in Switzerland earn approximately £78,000 more in total compensation than in the UK, though living costs in Switzerland, especially Geneva, are also very high.
2) Salaries and bonuses for HR professionals vary significantly across European countries and sectors. Public and voluntary sector pay is lower than private sector pay.
3) Seniority is the main factor for salary levels, but location can also impact pay substantially. The highest paying country shown for HR directors is Switzerland.
The infographic summarizes key findings from a survey on training trends and talent development practices:
- Median annual training spend per employee has increased to £350 but budgets remain tight, with few organizations planning to increase funding.
- Employers are choosing cost-effective options like on-the-job training, coaching by line managers, and internal knowledge sharing over external training.
- While many organizations have talent management activities, only about half rate them as effective.
The document summarizes survey results about how public sector organizations in the UK have been affected by budget cuts and what their priorities are. The top three ways organizations have been affected are cutting staff hours, making redundancies, and freezing pay. The top five ways local authorities plan to cut workforce costs are freezing recruitment, reducing staff posts, setting up shared services, reviewing conditions of service, and reducing management costs. Most organizations anticipate keeping their training budgets the same in the coming year, though some will reduce them. Managing austerity means rethinking jobs, pay and training.
The document provides a weekly summary of top HR and management stories, including:
1) Changes to UK agency worker regulations that will require equal pay and conditions after 12 weeks, prompting companies to reassess their workforce.
2) Falling numbers of skilled work visa applications in the first month after new restrictions were introduced, contrary to employer concerns.
3) Stable median pay rises of 2.5% in the UK, though below inflation, and a drop in average sick leave days per employee.
4) Indications that the government may scale back plans to outsource public services and extend recommendations on fair pay beyond the public sector.
The document provides a summary of top HR and management stories from the week ending April 15, 2011. Key points include:
- The Prime Minister said employers should be able to recruit short-term migrant workers but fewer should be allowed to settle in the UK permanently.
- Unexpectedly low inflation figures may ease fears over rising wages and reduce pressure for pay increases from unions.
- Nurses have voted to ballot for industrial action if the government imposes a two-year pay freeze.
- Other stories cover pension changes at Unilever, doctors' views on fit notes, potential rejection of a pay offer by rail unions, and HR strategy improvements at Orient Express.

It suggests at least 10% of basic pay be withheld until year-end performance objectives are met. Additionally, the NHS staff survey found a large increase in the number of staff receiving appraisals in 2010 compared to 2009. Finally, the CIPD argues that youth unemployment in the UK has been overstated, with the actual figure being closer to one in eight 16-24 year olds rather than the commonly reported one in five.
