                           Effective or Not Effective For the Society?

Thesis: Increase in airport security does not necessarily decrease the number of dangerous

situations; in fact, it may play an indirect yet very real role in creating an increasingly unsafe

world.

    I.      Since the Christmas Day bombing attempt caused by a Nigerian man travelling

            from Amsterdam to Detroit, there is a controversy going on whether to strengthen

            airport security or not.

                  A. Racial profiling creates hostility throughout society which in turn leads

                        to violence.

                  B. The costs of increased airport security directly lead to a greater number

                        of harm and death to people. Funds that were planned to used for

                        airport safety were used for airport security which caused numerous

                        runway accidents causing deaths.

    II.     Increase in airport security will lessen the risk of people being in danger in

            airports.

                  A.     Increase in airport security will make any terrorism attempts decrease.

                  B.     People will feel more secure with the increase of airport security and

                        will feel more comfortable to travel through airplanes.

    III.    Some of the airport security measures caused violence and fostered hostility.

                  A. Airports have utilized racial profiling in regards to airport security.

                        These actions caused negative stereotypes of certain groups of people.

                        For instance, Muslims are suspected of being terrorists.

                  B. The usage of racial profiling has heightened suspicion and hostility

                        among the general population, leading to rise in violent hate crimes.

IV.   The rise of airport security spending increased death of people at airports.

            A. Since more funds were needed for airport security, funds for runway

                safety and equipment were utilized instead for the increased of airport

                security.

            B. There have been an increase of runway and communication accidents

                recently that have led to a increase of number of deaths and injuries

                which is more than those caused by airport security.

V.    Increase in airport security has failed to eliminate dangerous situations and has

      made the world more dangerous.

            A. Even though airports have increased the security measures, there have

                been numerous terrorism attempts made in recent years.

            B. More deaths were caused by taking funds assigning for other uses.
