The Man in the Moon
• Is there really a man in the moon? When one looks up at the full
moon, it appears to have the image of a person’s face on it’s
  surface. What causes this?
• One can get a closer look at the moon’s surface by using powerful
binoculars. High mountains and deep craters, the most spectacular
of the lunar landscape’s features, are best seen during one of the
moon’s phases when the sunlight is being reflected at an angle.
• Because the moon rotates only once on its axis every time it orbits
the earth, we always see the same side and the same features.
During ten orbits in 1968, the far side of the moon was first seen by
astronauts of the Apollo 9 moon mission.
