This study compared trabeculectomy outcomes between phakic eyes that previously underwent clear-corneal phacoemulsification (n=63) and eyes that did not have prior surgery (n=108). The trabeculectomy failure rate after a mean follow up of 13.4 months was 31.7% for pseudophakic eyes and 42.6% for control eyes, a difference that was not statistically significant (p=0.107). The study concluded that clear corneal phacoemulsification does not appear to negatively impact subsequent trabeculectomy outcomes, though the study had limitations including a small sample size and retrospective design.
