It does not allow translation and teaches English using the target language only. Key principles include teaching grammar inductively, focusing on everyday vocabulary and sentences, using realia and demonstrations, and emphasizing listening and speaking skills. Merits include learning English like a first language, thinking in English instead of the native language, and correcting errors as they occur. Demerits include requiring teachers to have native-like fluency and being difficult to implement in large classes.

This document discusses post-colonial literature and search for identity. It analyzes Shakespeare's The Tempest as a post-colonial text by examining Caliban's characterization as powerful and speaking in his native language while seeking freedom. It also discusses Aimé Césaire's view that little of Shakespeare remained after he adapted The Tempest. Further, it analyzes J.M. Coetzee's Waiting for the Barbarians and the concept of "We and Other", with the white characters representing "We" and black characters "Other". In conclusion, it states that post-colonial writings force reexamination of history by centering formerly peripheral characters like Caliban and reflecting ongoing issues of society and identity.

It discusses how the novel features an unreliable narrator in Tony Webster, uses fragmentation and juxtaposition of past and present, and examines the postmodern ideas of subjective memory and the inability to truly know historical truth. The conclusion states that while the novel is not overtly postmodern, it incorporates postmodern elements like an emphasis on style over plot and the uncertainty of knowing objective reality.

Dr. Faustus embodies elements of the Renaissance such as a yearning for knowledge, intellectual curiosity, love of beauty, and wealth and exploration. The play depicts Faustus' insatiable thirst for knowledge in various subjects at the beginning. His intellectual curiosity and desire for power and omnipotence over nature represent the spirit of discovery during the Renaissance. Faustus also desires wealth, pleasures, and beauty, which were valued during this period. He disregards the authority of the Pope and church, showing the questioning of religious institutions that occurred in the Renaissance.
