ZahaHadidArchitects Why BIM? • The UK Government Construction Strategy (GCS) requires professional teams to utilise fully collaborative 3D BIM as of 2016 in any UK publicly procured project of a capital value above £X. In order to bid for these projects, ZHA needs to be able to offer and demonstrate BIM capability. • The UK and Europe have adopted a mandatory BIM strategy, much of the Middle East, Asia, America, and Australia voluntarily requiring the same service. • Increasing numbers of clients are requesting BIM expertise to be presented in bids. • The impact of BIM on fee proposals, contracts and fee levels need to be understood and addressed. • ZHA requires to roll out its existing BIM Execution Plan (BEP) on all BIM projects. To do this, it must put a strategy in place for use on projects and deviation from this strategy should require Director approval with an agreed alternative BEP strategy.

ZahaHadidArchitects BIM levels Level 1 vs Level 2 The difference between BIM Level 1 and BIM Level 2 is subtle but fundamental: • BIM Level 1 is about sharing files minus collaborative coordination with 2D cad output • BIM Level 2 is about sharing data so that all of the design, construction, operation and maintenance information can be held in a single, federated BIM model • It is way of working: information modelling and information management in a team environment
