Monthly Google Searches 1 = 1 Million queries per month
Significant search ac(vity was noted for the terms “News” and
“Blog”. The total queries processed monthly by Google for these
terms have exceeded the 100 Million on average for the past 12-‐
months. These numbers are on the same level as movies, sports,
baseball, dance, and shopping (506, 151, 25, 68, and 55.6 MM
queries/month respec(vely). The term RSS with 7.48 MM queries/
month is a lot less popular than News, Blogs, HTML (55.6 MM),
and even Kindle (16.6 MM). However, it is s(ll slightly more popular
than the terms epub (5 MM), and nook (5 MM). The term Reader
is included for comparison but as a stand alone term it is
misleading because a significant frac(on of the queries are related to
ebooks rather than RSS.

queries per month
These figure shows the top 5 queries that include the term RSS.

almost 75 MM queries per month worldwide and 10–12 MM queries
in the US. The other three queries are much less popular however
all of these seems to come from par(es interested in an introduc(on
to RSS.
Other Relevant RSS Google Searches 1 =
100k queries per month
Other less popular but relevant RSS queries seems to focus in
means to access RSS feeds or the iden(fica(on of content available
via RSS. The data evaluated so far suggests that there is a
significant popula(on looking to/for:
1. Use RSS for the first (me 2. Tools to manage RSS 3. Relevant
content via RSS It is worth no(ng that the AdWords compe((on
for all of the RSS related queries tested is low and therefore their
corresponding adver(sing costs will be minimal.
Percent of RSS-‐ related Google Searches
based in the US vs Worldwide
The US market represents about 10–15% of the total searches
for RSS and related terms. However, it accounts for much more of
the searches that include the word feed or reader alongside RSS.
Another par(cular search term more frequently used in US markets
is aggregator. Finally, further inves(ga(on should be perform to
understand why US markets account for a larger propor(on of
searches for that relate email to RSS versus searches that relate
blog or twitter to RSS.
