The 3-year Food for Progress Partnership between USDA, Planet Aid, and the Government of Malawi achieved significant results across its four objectives:
1) Agricultural development projects exceeded targets by increasing crop yields 38% versus 35%, and incomes 65% versus 50%.
2) The Total Control of the Epidemic HIV/AIDS program reached 426,399 people with counseling compared to a 400,000 target.
3) Two teacher training colleges educated 409 and 153 students respectively, training more teachers than planned.
4) Nutrition training benefited hundreds of school children and community members, promoting the use of soy in traditional diets.
Planet aid malawi 2009
The 3-year Food for Progress Partnership between USDA, Planet Aid, and Malawian organizations had 4 objectives: 1) establish 240 farmers clubs and increase members' earnings, 2) provide HIV/AIDS counseling to 400,000 people, 3) train 240 teachers at a new college, and 4) provide nutrition training. All objectives were exceeded, benefiting over 500,000 Malawians. Farmers clubs increased yields 38% and income 65%. The HIV program counseled 426,399 people and mobilized 279,012 for testing. The teacher training college trained 409 students, exceeding the 240 funded by USDA. Beneficiaries reported economic and educational improvements from participation.
