Advocacy Statement
Surveys show that due to the lack of English literacy, new immigrant
and poor pregnant women get deprived of the services they desperately
need. As results, the women in low income families stay beyond the
opportunities offered by various service organizations.
Rationale
Lack of information about prenatal and postnatal
care can cause a series of problems. For example-
Poor diet.
Cause amnesia.
Risk of complications can cause death.
Cause normal development delay of the child.
Premature death.
Impact
 It is a program of Toronto Public Health.
 It is a community based program.
 It provides service for children 0-6 months
as well as their families.
What is Prenatal and Postnatal program?
 Taking classes to learn about nutritional food.
 The public health nurses take health classes.
 Provides assistance at prenatal and postnatal
period.
 Helping baby delivery.
 Provides childcare services during the class
period.
 Provides transportation (TTC tokens)
 $10 grocery voucher for nutritious food.

outreach program.

Distribute flyers in high school and
Centennial College.
 Posted fliers on individual child care
centers and community clubs.
Held workshops in different public
places.
Advocacy Plan

 Program coordinator.
 Attend Applegrove parent child drop-in center to
attend the workshop.

with young mothers.

coordinators invited us to join in their next monthly
meeting.
 Applegrove drop in center coordinators and
parents wanted to know the results.
 We will do another follow up workshop at a high
school guidance center.
