The Academy for Lifelong Learning Advisory Committee met on October 17, 2012. Committee reports indicated that planning for Spring 2013 classes was nearly complete and thanked those who worked on the curriculum. Upcoming bus trips in the fourth quarter of 2012 and first quarter of 2013 were announced. Plans were made for a holiday social in December. The committee discussed membership numbers, communications, outreach and publicity efforts. Additional items addressed registration procedures and participation at Cy-Fest. The meeting adjourned at 12:00 PM.

Cheryl LeJune called the meeting to order and welcome members and Noemi Silva, Continuing
Education Coordinator. There were no additions/corrections to the May meeting minutes.
Committee Reports:
Curriculum
We are in the last week of planning classes for Spring 2013. Even though we still have a few
open dates/times, I feel that the schedule is a good one.
Committee members, please submit your Speaker Info Sheets by Friday afternoon, October 19,
2012. Cheryl and I will be working over the next week to transition the class info to the
acceptable format for the LSC System office so they can prepare to
print the Spring 2013 catalog.
If you still have open/unfinished classes, please contact me ASAP to finalize. A copy of the most
up-to-date calendar was sent to committee members today (10-16-12).

Bus Trips
Our bus dates for the fourth quarter are:
Wednesday, October 17: Cocoamoda (gourmet chocolate factory) and chef inspired lunch,
docent led tour of historic district and a visit to the POW camp at Hearne;
Saturday, November 17: Civil War Weekend at Liendo Plantation;
Saturday, December 8: Dinner and Candlelight Tour of Sam Houston Park.

Heritage Liaison – Nothing to report
Communication and Membership
Gene reports that we have at the current time 545 members. This is 75 more than was
reported in October of 2011. It is, however, 122 LESS than was reported in August of 2012. So
while we have about 150 new members that signed up in the last month or so, that number has
been balanced to some extent by a decrease in the number of established members.
By the same token I show an increase of 219 in non-current contacts. Current contacts stand
at 436, a decrease from 540 in August of 2012. As soon as I have posted the last batch of
registration forms I will be deleting the 117 non-current contacts who have
not registered since September of 2010.
We continue to carry information of other events on campus. We also continue to receive
requests to carry information about events not related to ALL or to the Lone Star System.
We have had several members include their email address on their registration forms and them
are upset when we use it to send them ALL the news or For ALL to read. Perhaps we could give
notice somehow that if they give us their email address it will be used for
information dissemination.
I continue to get requests to send multiple emails to the same physical address. Usually the
reason given is that spouses do not share information. For the most part I resist such requests
due to the message limit on our email account.

Meet You There
The next activity is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct 24, 2012 at 12noon.
It will be held at Spring Creek Barbecue, 25831 NW FWY, Cypress, TX 77429.
Hopefully we will have a better turnout than Sept.

Additional Items
Registration – We have continued to ask for one check per person at registration, but
sometimes a couple will write one check for them both. This causes a mix up in the office. Next
year we may have to put these in a separate pile and handle them differently.
Cy-Fest – Again, we had a manned table advertising ALL in the ARTS building (but was then
moved outside for better traffic). Next year we may combine it with the continuing education
table.

for Wednesday, November 14, 2012, in room HSC 106 at 11:15 AM. Note the date change due
to the Thanksgiving holidays.
