ADJUNCT PROFESSOR TERM OF REFERENCE (TOR)
Appointment 1. An industrial practitioners but with a minimum qualification of an Honours Bachelor degree
or recognized professional qualifications with recognition as authority or referral point at
national or international level in subject area with a minimum experience of 20 years.
2. The appointment duration is TWO (2) years and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS may
consider an extension of his/her term period.
3. The appointee can use the title of Professor (Adjunct Lecturer) during the term of
appointment. E.g. Kamil – Prof (Adj) Kamil.
4. Candidates could be Malaysian or international citizen but must be from locally-based
company. Proposed overseas candidate must get strong justification and recommendation
from Head of Department.
5. Appointment of Adjunct Professor is subjected to the University Academic Committee and
Senate for approval.
Duties 6. Teaching
a. Share expertise in teaching UG and/or PG students.
b. Impart their professional industrial experience to complement/improve the existing
University’s curriculum to prepare students to the actual industrial expectations.
c. Give talks/lectures/seminars to students, staff and other PETRONAS employees.
d. Expected accumulative of the above activities is at least 2 visits or 8 hours per semester.
7. Research
a. To be appointed as Co-PI research projects.
b. Evaluate the industrial relevance and suitability of the research projects being carried out
in UTP, which are within the Adjunct Professor’s area of expertise, with the aim of
enhancing the quality, relevance and sustainability of the research.
c. Assist in collaboration with the industry where Adjunct Professor’s area of expertise or
other related industries both local and abroad.
8. Supervision
Co-supervise at least ONE (1) Master or PhD student.
9. Promotion of UTP
a. Enhance industry-university partnership and broaden networking between industry-
university.
b. Introduce at least ONE (1) new industry for collaboration and internship placement.
10. Render expertise in the consultancy work undertaken by UTP.
11. Perform any other appropriate duties as determined/requested by the university.
12. The Adjunct Professor should provide and submit a performance report to Head of
Department every semester.
Benefits and
Entitlement
13. According to UTP’s HRM staff benefits and entitlement.
Honorarium 14. The honorarium payable to the Adjunct Professor is RM1000.00 (Ringgit Malaysia One
Thousand only) per diem.
General
Information
15. Adjunct Professor is not considered as permanent or a contract staff of UTP.
16. Adjunct Professor must abide by PETRONAS Code of Conduct and Business Ethics.
