Supporting this emerge theory, we see a pattern of adaptive food plans in our work. This presentation introduces two case studies and explores opportunities and limitations in this approach.

In the first year, the lab built coalitions and assessed existing food resources in Cedar Rapids, Cresco, and Des Moines. The process aimed to create an Agricultural Urbanism Toolkit to help other communities establish their own sustainable food systems through inclusive community partnerships and planning.

NASIG Digital Preservation Task Force Update

The Digital Preservation Task Force proposes a panel discussion wherein we take the opportunity to share updates about the task force’s work, and discuss recent developments in the field of Digital Preservation. The main focus of the session will be a discussion between the panelists with plenty of opportunity for those in attendance to ask questions and offer feedback. Panelists will include members of the Task Force and publisher representation. Currently, the Task Force is working on documentation to be made available via the NASIG website for reference by librarians, publishers, third party preservation agencies, and other interested parties. In addition, the Task Force has plans to develop a survey to better understand how NASIG can serve its membership and the profession at large with regard to digital preservation initiatives. The Task Force is also seeking ways in which it can collaborate with other professional organizations to proactively ensure digital preservation of the scholarly record.

The Ag Data Commons is a platform for aggregating, cataloging, and sharing agricultural data. It harvests metadata from various federal and university repositories to make data more discoverable without duplication of submission efforts. Currently it catalogs open datasets and links them to related literature. In the future, it aims to harvest more funding information and methodological details to better link datasets to associated research articles and grants. The goal is to organize agricultural data according to shared standards to make it fully machine-readable and reusable to support further research and decision-making.
