Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.

Canada implements the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) through the Export and Import of Rough Diamonds Act (EIRDA) which is administered by Natural Resources Canada. The EIRDA provides for controls on rough diamond exports and imports and certification for trade with KPCS participants. Canada's import and export regime requires Canadian Kimberley Process Certificates for rough diamond shipments that are verified by the Kimberley Process Office before being approved and issued.
2006 Brazil Review Visit Report

Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. 2004 Ad Rep of Congo Mission
- 1. Administrative Decision The report of the Working Group on Monitoring to the Chair on the discrepancy between rough diamond exports and production capacity for the Republic of Congo concludes that the information reviewed could constitute credible indications of significant non-compliance with the certification scheme and that additional verification measures are appropriate. On the basis of this conclusion, and in accordance with Section III, Paragraph (a) of the Administrative Decision on the Implementation of Peer Review in the KPCS, the Kimberley Process Plenary decides to send a review mission to the Republic of Congo. As set out in Section VI, Article 14 of the KPCS, “Review missions are to be conducted in an analytical, expert and impartial manner with the consent of the Participant concerned.” In view of the potential impact on the credibility of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, the review mission should be undertaken by 30 April 2004. The terms of reference for review missions are set out in Annex II of the Administrative Decision on the Implementation of Peer Review in the KPCS. Consistent with the provisions outlined in Section 1 of that Administrative Decision, the mandate for the review mission to the Republic of Congo should also include: • an explanation for the discrepancy identified by the Working Group on Monitoring relating to the scale of rough diamond exports considerably exceeding the known production capacity and an absence of reported imports; • a detailed assessment of the relevant laws, regulations and procedures which ensure that Kimberley Process Certificates are issued only for those rough diamonds which are produced within the Republic of Congo or which are imported in a manner consistent with the requirements of the KPCS.
