The Harbin Opera House in China is designed by MAD Architects. It features a curvilinear exterior that references the surrounding landscape. The undulating white aluminum panels wrap around a large public plaza. Inside, the grand lobby has transparent glass walls connecting the interior and exterior. The main theater is clad in rich wood with excellent acoustics. A smaller theater has large windows connecting the interior and outdoor backdrop for performances. The building emphasizes public interaction with paths on the façade and an open-air observation space at the top.
