Providing challenging opportunities and activities for 12-18 year olds, it helps young people develop both personally and physically It is a youth organisation like no other.
What does the ACF do? The ACF provides a safe environment for young people to take part in activities that they normally wouldn't get to do, helping you become more self-confident, develop your leadership skills, and teach self-discipline – while also giving you the chance to gain some extra qualifications! Drill and Turnout – Cadets are taught drill. Having learnt turns at the halt, coming to attention, and saluting, a cadet can use these skills to march in parades, such as remembrance day. Fieldcraft – In fieldcraft lessons, cadets learn infantry skills such as patrolling, battle drills, and how to survive in the field. Field exercises take place once every few months, and at annual camp. Shooting – Cadets are first taught to fire a .22 calibre rifle on a 25m indoor range. You will than be taught how to use the Cadet GP Rifle, which is fired on 100m-300m ranges during camps. The cost? Joining the ACF is free. But some counties may require a deposit to be made for the uniform, and boots must be paid for. Optional events such as annual camp cost from £25.
Notice: The ACF is not a recruiting organisation for the regular Army or HM Forces. How do I join? You have to be between the age of 12-18, and atleast be in Year 8 of School. Visit ArmyCadets.com and request an information pack and find your local detachment. You are invited to come down on parade nights, where you will be introduced and given a taster. If you have any questions, ask the Cadets in attendance.
